Bovenau

The Eider Canal (also called the Schleswig-Holstein Canal) was an artificial waterway in southern Denmark (later northern Germany) which connected the North Sea with the Baltic Sea by way of the rivers Eider and Levensau. Constructed between 1777 and 1784, the Eider Canal was built to create a path for ships entering and exiting the Baltic that was shorter and less storm-prone than navigating around the Jutland peninsula. In the 1880s the canal was replaced by the enlarged Kiel Canal, which includes some of the Eider Canal's watercourse.

Sehestedt (Danish: Sehested) is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Sehestedt is south of the municipality of Groß Wittensee, Haby or Holtsee, but north of Bovenau, and west of Lindau. It is divided into two parts by the Kiel Canal, which has to be crossed by a ferry.

Krummwisch is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The location of Krummwisch is south of the municipality of Lindau or Schinkel, but north of Bredenbek or Felde, and east of Bovenau.

Haby is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. At the southwestern end of the village of Haby the meadows are filled with fog some nights. This is where there was, until the middle of the 20th century, a big lake which was linked to the Wittensee. For a thousand years it was used by people living in this area as a fishing ground till the growing agricultural industry caused the lake to vanish. Haby was mentioned in records first 800 years ago. The ending "by" indicates Viking origins. Haby is the most southern location in Germany with the "by" ending. There is another village with an almost identical name in southern Sweden.
