Hlučín

Hlučín Region (Czech: Hlučínsko, German: Hultschiner Ländchen, Polish: Ziemia hulczyńska) is a historically significant part of Czech Silesia, now part of the Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic. It is named after its largest town, Hlučín. Its area is 316.9 km2 (122.4 sq mi), and in 2021, it had 66,750 inhabitants.

The Hlučín-Darkovičky Czechoslovak Fortification Complex (Czech: Areál československého opevnění Hlučín-Darkovičky) is an exhibition of 1930's military fortifications in Hlučín-Darkovičky, Czech Republic. The forts MO S-18 "Obora", MO S-19 "Alej" and MO S-20 "Orel" are parts of the exhibition. They are part of a series of five different fortifications that were designed to sit on the Czech border during the first half of the 20th century. They are an important example of the defences availables during the World War II and the consequences of the Munich Agreement. The fortification complex has been under the management of the Silesian Museum in Opava since 1992.

Děhylov (German: Dielhau) is a municipality and village in Opava District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 700 inhabitants.

Kozmice (German: Kosmütz) is a municipality and village in Opava District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,900 inhabitants. It is part of the historic Hlučín Region.

Markvartovice (German: Markersdorf) is a municipality and village in Opava District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 2,200 inhabitants. It is part of the historic Hlučín Region.

Martinov (German: Martinau) is a village, now administrative district of the city of Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic. The village was first mentioned in a written document in 1424 as Myrtynow and lies in the historical region of Silesia. Martinov has an agricultural character and has a population of 1,131. The village was administratively joined to Ostrava in July 1961, after that the large food-processing plant was constructed there. Coat of arms of the village depicts Saint Martin of Tours.

Dobroslavice (German: Dobroslawitz is a municipality and village in Opava District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 800 inhabitants.

The Opava (Czech: Opava, Polish: Opawa, German: Oppa) is a river in the north-eastern Czech Republic, a left tributary of the Oder river. It originates at the confluence of Bílá (White), Střední (Middle) and Černá (Black) Opava in Vrbno pod Pradědem and runs over 110 km (69 mi) to the Oder at Ostrava, with some 25 km (16 mi) forming the border with Poland. Its basin area is about 2,090 km2, of which 1,814 km2 in the Czech Republic.After the First Silesian War, by the terms of the Treaty of Breslau in 1742, the Opava in the Duchy of Troppau became the border between Austrian and Prussian Silesia (the later Province of Silesia). After World War I the demarcation was confirmed by the 1919 Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye as the border between Czechoslovakia (Czech Silesia) and the Second Polish Republic.

VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (abbreviated VSB–TUO; Czech: Vysoká škola báňská – Technická univerzita Ostrava) is a university in Ostrava in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It is a polytechnic university with a long history of high-quality engineering education and research. The first Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Applied Artificial Intelligence for Materials and Manufacturing in the Czech Republic was located at VSB - Technical University of Ostrava. As of 2018, VSB–TUO was one of the leading Czech and European universities offering education in technology, natural sciences, and economics, producing applied and basic research and providing the necessary professional advisory, consultancy, and expert services to industry, banking, and business sectors, including lifelong learning. The graduates of the University often find jobs during their studies, with an average of 3,117 students successfully graduating each year. The University supports student activities – running their own business, studying abroad or student organisations. VSB – Technical University of Ostrava cooperates with a number of Czech and foreign universities and companies.

Poruba is an administrative district of the city of Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic. It lies in the Silesian part of the city. It lies in the historical region of Silesia and was first mentioned in a written document in 1377. Heavy industrialization of Ostrava in the second half of the 19th century didn't have major impact on Poruba which retained its agricultural character. Several factories were built here at the beginning of the 20th century. According to the Austrian census of 1910 the village had 1,403 inhabitants, 1,401 of whom had permanent residence there. Census asked people for their native language, 1,381 (98.6%) were Czech-speaking. Most populous religious group were Roman Catholics with 1,392 (99.2%).Major event in the history of Poruba was a decision of communist authorities to build here a large complex of apartment buildings which were supposed to house workers who came to Ostrava from various parts of the country in large numbers after World War II. The construction began in the early 1950s. At its peak almost 100,000 people lived in Poruba, today about 61,000 people live there. It is one of the most populous districts of the city and is known for its shopping district. Poruba was formerly an independent municipality, in 1957 it became a part of Ostrava. Most important cultural landmarks of Poruba are Saint Nicholas Church and Poruba Castle.

Svinov (German: Schönbrunn) is a former town, and since 20 March 1957 an administrative district of the city of Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic. It lies on the bank of the Odra River, in the Silesian area of the city. As of 2011 census, Svinov currently has population of 4,301. The district lies in the historical region of Silesia and was first mentioned in a written document in 1265.

Šilheřovice (German: Schillersdorf, Polish: Szylerzowice) is a municipality and village in Opava District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,600 inhabitants. It is part of the historic Hlučín Region.
