Whitewater Falls is a series of waterfalls and cascades on the Whitewater River in North Carolina and South Carolina. Over the 3.5 mi (5.6 km) course of the river between the two falls, the Whitewater River drops 1,500 ft (460 m), and crosses the state border. Both Falls can be hiked to via the Foothills Trail or spur trails. Lookouts allow you to view both falls. Upper Whitewater Falls - the taller of the two falls 411 ft (125 m), Nantahala National Forest, Jackson County, North Carolina According to the U.S. Forest Service, "With a 411-foot plunge, Upper Whitewater Falls in North Carolina is the highest waterfall east of the Rockies." Gorges State Park is a 7,709-acre (31.20 km2) North Carolina state park in Transylvania County, North Carolina in the United States and along with other conservation lands is part of a 100,000+ acre conservation corridor stretching some 80 miles along the NC/SC state line. The land, along Jocassee Gorges, was purchased by the state from Duke Energy Corporation in 1999. It is North Carolina's westernmost state park and one of the state's newest. The park is adjacent to part of the Pisgah National Forest and the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission's Toxaway Game Land. Gorges State Park provides the principal access to the Horsepasture River on these adjoining public lands.

The Horsepasture River is an 18.1-mile-long (29.1 km) National Wild and Scenic river in the U.S. states of North Carolina and South Carolina. The river rises in Jackson County, North Carolina, and flows through the Jocassee Gorges area and ends at Lake Jocassee in South Carolina. Some of the land over which the river flows is part of the Pisgah National Forest, making it accessible to the public. North Carolina designated 4.5 miles (7.2 km) of the river as Horsepasture State Natural River in 1985, including it in the state's Natural and Scenic Rivers System. The State River is between NC-281 and the state line. The Horsepasture River features several significant waterfalls in close proximity to one another. Lake Toxaway is an unincorporated community in western Transylvania County, North Carolina on U.S. Route 64, and North Carolina Highway 281.

Rosman is a town in Transylvania County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 576 at the 2010 census. The northern terminus of U.S. Route 178 is less than one mile northwest of Rosman on U.S. Route 64. The Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute is located approximately six miles north of Rosman, near Balsam Grove.

Rocky Bottom is an unincorporated community located in northern Pickens County, South Carolina 16 miles (26 km) north of Pickens, South Carolina, 7 miles (11 km) south of Rosman, North Carolina and 27 miles (43 km) northwest of Greenville, South Carolina. Near the North Carolina state line, on U.S. Highway 178 in the Blue Ridge Mountains, at an elevation of 1,750 ft (530 m). The Foothills Trail also makes its way through Rocky Bottom, with an area for trailgoers to park.

Lake Toxaway Methodist Church, also known as Methodist Episcopal Church South, is a historic Methodist church on Cold Mountain Road on the north side, 0.1 miles norwest of the junction with NC 281 in Lake Toxaway, Transylvania County, North Carolina. It was built in 1912, and is a small one-story, Late Gothic Revival style frame structure. It has a six-sided louvered bell tower and a tin roof. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Lake Toxaway is the largest privately held lake in North Carolina. The lake, developed by the Lake Toxaway Company, is man-made and covers 640 acres (2.6 km2) 60 feet (18 m), and the shoreline is 14 miles (23 km). Water sources for the lake include multiple free-flowing mountain streams with the Toxaway River being the main source. The lake flows out onto Toxaway Falls and then continues down the Toxaway River. The main road through the Lake Toxaway area is U.S. Highway 64, a typical winding mountain road with tight turns. Lake Toxaway history encompasses two distinct time periods. The first era which began in 1890 ended with the collapse of the earthen dam in 1916. In 1960 the second era began when the Lake Toxaway Company purchased the land and rebuilt the lake.

Flem Galloway House is a historic home and national historic district located near Calvert, Transylvania County, North Carolina. It was built in 1878, and is a two-story, heavy timber frame I-house, with a two-story rear ell. It is sheathed in weatherboard and has a gable roof. The front facade features a two-tiered, center-bay, cross-gabled porch. Also on the property is a contributing 1+1⁄2-story smokehouse.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

Sassafras Mountain is the highest point in the state of South Carolina, United States. It is in the Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountains. An observation tower opened on top of Sassafras Mountain in 2019.

Hillmont, also known as the Armstrong-Moltz House and Greystone Inn, is a historic home located at Lake Toxaway, Transylvania County, North Carolina. It was built about 1915, and is a large 2+1⁄2-story, board and batten sheathed square block with two rambling stone additions. It features flower boxes on all windows, balconies, and casement windows, which give an impression of Swiss-chalet design. It was rehabilitated as the Greystone Inn in the mid-1980s. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. After closing in 2015, the Greystone Inn was purchased by Geoff and Shannon Ellis in 2017. The new owners renovated the Greystone Inn during the winter and spring of 2018 to bring the inn back to its former glory, and reopened the inn to the public in May 2018. The Greystone Inn is open year-round with 30 guest rooms, a lakeside restaurant, and a full-service spa.

Morgan's Mill is a historic grist mill located near Brevard, Transylvania County, North Carolina. The original section was built about 1855. It consists of the original mid-19th century heavy frame portion, a late-19th century balloon frame addition, and the final mid-20th century shed/porch section.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
