Sassafras Mountain

Rocky Bottom is an unincorporated community located in northern Pickens County, South Carolina 16 miles (26 km) north of Pickens, South Carolina, 7 miles (11 km) south of Rosman, North Carolina and 27 miles (43 km) northwest of Greenville, South Carolina. Near the North Carolina state line, on U.S. Highway 178 in the Blue Ridge Mountains, at an elevation of 1,750 ft (530 m). The Foothills Trail also makes its way through Rocky Bottom, with an area for trailgoers to park.

Headwaters State Forest is a 6,730-acre (27.2 km2) state forest, located in Transylvania County, North Carolina, along the South Carolina state line and is part of a larger 100,000+ acre conservation corridor that stretches some 80 miles along the state line. The name originates from the fact that the forest contains the headwaters of East Fork of the French Broad River. The North Carolina Forest Service primarily manages the forest for water and soil quality, as well as protecting rare species; however, primitive recreational uses are permitted.

Table Rock State Park is a 3,083-acre (12.48 km2) park at the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains in northern Pickens County, South Carolina.

Civilian Conservation Corps Quarry No. 2 is a historic Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) quarry site located near Pickens, Pickens County, South Carolina. The site is associated with the CCC construction of Table Rock State Park between 1935 and 1941. It is one of four quarry sites used for materials in the construction of park structures and facilities at the park. Located on the property is a concrete spring house built by CCC workers.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The site is associated with the CCC construction of Table Rock State Park between 1935 and 1941. It is one of four quarry sites used for materials in the construction of park structures and facilities at the park. The truck trail was used by CCC workers to gain access to the quarry.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Table Rock Civilian Conservation Corps Camp Site is a historic Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp site located near Pickens, Pickens County, South Carolina. It contains remnants of the CCC construction of Table Rock State Park between 1935 and 1941, including the recreation hall chimney, bulletin board with adjacent benches, grotto fountain, and basin. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Sunset is an unincorporated community in Pickens County, South Carolina, United States. The community is located along South Carolina Highway 11 8.3 miles (13.4 km) northwest of Pickens. Sunset has a post office with ZIP code 29685, which opened on January 11, 1906.

Rosman is a town in Transylvania County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 576 at the 2010 census. The northern terminus of U.S. Route 178 is less than one mile northwest of Rosman on U.S. Route 64. The Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute is located approximately six miles north of Rosman, near Balsam Grove.

Roper House Complex, also known as Camp Oolenoy and Elizabeth Ellison House, is a historic home located near Pickens, Pickens County, South Carolina. It was built in 1856, and enlarged and remodeled by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) with American Craftsman influences in about 1937. Also on the property are three contributing outbuildings; a smokehouse, garage, and chicken coop. It was the home of Manning Thomas Roper, first superintendent of Table Rock State Park. He also provided the land for both CCC camps and also provided the right-of-way for the original park entrance. In 1952, the Roper House became part of the Table Rock State Park, Camp Oolenoy complex. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Flem Galloway House is a historic home and national historic district located near Calvert, Transylvania County, North Carolina. It was built in 1878, and is a two-story, heavy timber frame I-house, with a two-story rear ell. It is sheathed in weatherboard and has a gable roof. The front facade features a two-tiered, center-bay, cross-gabled porch. Also on the property is a contributing 1+1⁄2-story smokehouse.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

The Wilds Christian Association, Inc. is a Christian organization, based in Brevard, North Carolina, United States. The organization was founded by a group of Christians at Bob Jones University who recognized the need for a Christian camp in the Southeastern United States. In 1967, the group purchased a 1,000 acres (4.0 km2) property near Brevard, North Carolina and established The Wilds Christian Camp and Conference Center (commonly referred to as "The Wilds") about two years later. Today, The Wilds is one of the largest Christian camps in the United States. About 21,000 people attend annual retreats, while summer camp averages 1,100 to 1,200 campers per week. The Wilds of the Rockies opened in 1987 near Kremmling, Colorado, though the property was sold in 2004 and converted to a residential development. A third camp, The Wilds of New England, was established in Deering, New Hampshire in 2009. Additionally, CampsAbroad was founded in 2001, which is an international program assisting Christian camping ministries in 40 countries. The Wilds Christian Association is supported by more than 300 churches, and more than 250,000 campers have attended its summer camp programs. The Wilds has a year-round staff of forty and a summer staff of about 270.

Doomsday Castle is a reality television series on National Geographic Channel, that was canceled in 2013, showing the lives of Brenton Bruns and his five children preparing for the end of the world, in a castle he has built near Pickens, South Carolina. The show is a spin-off of Doomsday Preppers; Bruns and his castle were originally featured on the season 2 episode "No Such Thing as a Fair Fight". Bruns says he built a castle to survive an electromagnetic pulse, since a castle can survive without electricity and defend against raiders. It started as a bunker in 1999, and is continuously being added to. Bruns states that his property is covered with booby traps, and his neighbors are "serious preppers with lots of guns".
