Romulus, New York

Romulus is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in the Town of Romulus, Seneca County, New York, United States on the border with the Town of Varick. The population was 409 at the 2010 census. The hamlet was originally called "Romulusville." It was renamed Romulus, after the town, circa 1870.

The former Seneca Army Depot occupied 10,587 acres (4,284 ha) between Seneca Lake and Cayuga Lake in Seneca County, New York. It was used as a munitions storage and disposal facility by the United States Army from 1941 until the 1990s. The Depot was listed in the 1995 Base Realignment and Closure Commission and formally shut down in 2000. The property has since been transferred to the Seneca County Industrial Development Agency, which leases it to Seneca County Economic Development Corp.Home to the world's largest herd of white deer, the base is in the towns of Varick and Romulus. Adjacent to the storage facility is the now-closed Seneca Army Airfield, whose long runway could handle large cargo aircraft.

Seneca County is located in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 33,814. The primary county seat is Waterloo, moved there from the original county seat of Ovid in 1819. It became a two-shire county in 1822, which currently remains in effect and uses both locations as county seats although the majority of Seneca County administrative offices are located in Waterloo. Therefore, most political sources list only Waterloo as the county seat. The county's name comes from the Seneca Nation of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), who occupied part of the region. Seneca County comprises the Seneca Falls, NY Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Rochester-Batavia-Seneca Falls, NY Combined Statistical Area.

Varick is a town in Seneca County, New York, United States. The population was 1,639 at the 2020 census. The town is named after Richard Varick, an officer in the American Revolution, mayor of New York City, and uncle of the first Town Supervisor, Anthony Dey. The Town of Varick is located in the central part of the county and is southeast of Geneva. There is no post office in the Town of Varick. The primary postal district covering the area is Zip Code 14541 for Romulus.

The LORAN-C transmitter Seneca was the master station of the Northeastern United States LORAN-C Chain (GRI 9960) and the X-Ray secondary station of the Great Lakes Chain (GRI 8970). It was located within the Seneca Army Depot in Romulus, New York, south of Geneva. It used a 1000-kilowatt, 742-foot (226.2 m) guyed mast that was constructed in 1977 and dedicated on August 2, 1978. The station was operated by United States Coast Guard and was located on a 250-acre (1.0 km2) piece of land within the 10,587-acre (42.84 km2) facility. The transmitter was used to guide ships and aircraft up to 1,000 miles (1,600 km) away. It was the first LORAN station to use solid-state electronics versus vacuum tube components.The station, was shut down for good on February 9, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. EST. The tower was dismantled shortly after decommissioning of the LORAN-C system and was stacked in pieces next to the transmitter building awaiting further disposition.

Five Points Correctional Facility (FPCF) is a maximum security state prison for men located in Romulus, New York, and operated by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. Five Points is known as a supermax prison.

WNYR-FM (98.5 MHz) is an adult contemporary music formatted radio station in Waterloo/Geneva, New York. Along with the music, though they also provide Finger Lakes News and events information both through their website and on through the radio. They broadcast throughout the Finger Lakes.

Seneca Army Airfield is a closed facility of the United States Army that was originally built as the operational field for Sampson Air Force Base around 1953. Following the closure of the base, the field was turned over to the Army and became part of the nearby Seneca Army Depot. During this time, it was loosely controlled by the Army, as patrols reported seeing civilian aircraft on the runways. Around 1965, the airport reverted to civilian control, although this period was brief and it was converted back to military control soon after. The airport closed by 2000, when the nearby depot closed due to recommendations from the 1995 Base Realignment and Closure Commission.

David and Mary Kinne Farmstead is a historic home and farm complex located at Ovid in Seneca County, New York. The complex consists of a Greek Revival style farmhouse and seven historic agricultural outbuildings. By family tradition, the house is believed to have been built about 1850 and is believed to have been used as a stop on the Underground Railroad. The outbuildings all date to the mid- to late-19th century and include an outhouse, machine shop, carriage house, horse barn, scale house, gambrel roof barn, and machine shed.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

East Varick is a hamlet in the Town of Varick, Seneca County, New York, United States, along Cayuga Lake. It is located four miles (6 km) east of the hamlet of Romulus, at an elevation of 400 feet (122 m). The primary intersection within the vicinity of the hamlet is at N.Y. Route 89 and Ernsberger Road (CR 128).

Simon Ritter Cobblestone Farmhouse is a historic house located at Varick in Seneca County, New York. It is a late Federal / early Greek Revival style, cobblestone farmhouse with an overlay of Italianate detailing. It is a two-story, slightly asymmetrical structure, on a raised fieldstone foundation. It was built about 1830 and is constructed of irregularly sized and variously colored field cobbles. The house is among the approximately 18 surviving cobblestone buildings in Seneca County. Also on the property are two large early / mid 19th century barns, a carriage house and machine shed, a boathouse built about 1900 on the shore of Cayuga Lake, and a limestone carriage stepping stone.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. The owners operate Varick Winery, which has a tasting room on another part of the property.

Big Hollow Creek is a river located in Seneca County, New York. It flows into Cayuga Lake by Poplar Beach, New York.
