West Craven

Barnoldswick Town Football Club is a football club based in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, England. They are currently members of the North West Counties League Premier Division and play at Greenberfield Lane. They are affiliated to the West Riding County Football Association.

Barnoldswick railway station was the only railway station on the Midland Railway's 1-mile-64-chain (2.9 km) long Barnoldswick Branch in the West Riding of Yorkshire in England. It served the market town of Barnoldswick, which was in West Riding of Yorkshire at the time. The line left the Leeds and Bradford Extension Railway at Barnoldswick Junction 55 chains (3,600 ft; 1,100 m) from Earby railway station. The line through the junction was on a 20-chain (1,300 ft; 400 m) radius after which it converged to a single track and ran in a straight but undulating line to Barnoldswick. The passenger train that ran back and forth between Barnoldswick and Earby was known locally as the 'Barlick Spud' or 'Spudroaster'. The real reason for the name is lost in time, but the two versions that were commonly recited are that the original branch locomotive was so small it looked like a portable potato roaster used by a local vendor or that the journey time was the same as that taken to roast a potato in the locomotive's firebox. Barnoldswick has been in the Pendle District of Lancashire since 1974.

This was when West Riding County Council and Barnoldswick Urban District Council were abolished and the town was transferred to the Borough of Pendle. Situated 30 miles (48 km) from Leeds, Manchester and Preston, nearby towns include Skipton to the east, Clitheroe to the west, Burnley to the south, and Keighley to the east southeast. The civil parish has a population of 10,752.

Bancroft Shed was a weaving shed in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, England, situated on the road to Skipton. Construction was started in 1914 and the shed was commissioned in 1920 for James Nutter & Sons Limited. The mill closed on 22 December 1978 and was demolished. The engine house, chimneys and boilers have been preserved and maintained as a working steam museum. The mill was the last steam-driven weaving shed to be constructed and the last to close. The engine house is open to visitors and the William Roberts cross compound 600hp engine regularly runs from steam generated from donated wood.

The Little Cut, also known as the Rain Hall Rock Branch or the Rain Hall Rock Canal, was a short canal connecting the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Barnoldswick to the nearby Rain Hall Rock limestone quarry. The canal ran north-east for 950 yards (870 m) through farmland and a deep cutting—including two tunnels—before terminating in a small basin.

Salterforth is a village and civil parish within the Borough of Pendle in Lancashire, England. The population of the Civil Parish at the 2011 census was 637. It lies on the B6383 road that connects Barnoldswick to the A56 road at Kelbrook. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal cuts through the village and there are several narrowboat moorings at Salterforth. The canal footpath provides a picturesque walk to Barnoldswick or to Foulridge in the opposite direction. The village also has a canal side pub, The Anchor Inn along with a lovely children's play area. Historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Salterforth used to be within Skipton Rural District until 1974. Some of the local area is referred to as West Craven alluding to Salterforth's cultural links to the Craven area of North Yorkshire. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 238, increasing slightly to 244 at the 2011 census. The parish includes Bracewell (at grid reference SD863485) and Brogden (at SD858472); historically, both were in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Martons Both is a civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. The civil parish is formed by the villages of East Marton and West Marton. According to the 2001 UK census, Martons Both parish had a population of 214, reducing marginally to 213 at the 2011 Census.
