The Little Cut, also known as the Rain Hall Rock Branch or the Rain Hall Rock Canal, was a short canal connecting the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Barnoldswick to the nearby Rain Hall Rock limestone quarry. The canal ran north-east for 950 yards (870 m) through farmland and a deep cutting—including two tunnels—before terminating in a small basin.

Coates was one of the 20 electoral wards that formed the Parliamentary constituency of Pendle, Lancashire, England. The ward returned three councillors to represent the northern half of Barnoldswick on Pendle Borough Council. The incumbent councillors were Marjorie Adams, Lindsay Gaskell and Janine Throupe, all Liberal Democrats. As of the May 2011 Council election, Coates had an electorate of 4,166. In 2020 the ward was abolished.

Thornton-in-Craven is a village and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. It is approx 1,740 feet (530 m) from the border with Lancashire and 1 mile (1.6 km) north of Earby. Barnoldswick is nearby. The Pennine Way passes through the village, as does the A56 road. The village has a church, a primary school and a retirement home, but no shops or pubs. Near the medieval church to the west of the village is a holy well, dating from Saxon times and now covered by an octagonal structure erected in 1764 by the rector. Thornton-in-Craven railway station was closed when passenger trains over the Skipton to Colne route were withdrawn in 1970. SELRAP are actively pursuing a re-opening of the line which was given a boost in February 2018, when the transport minister, Chris Grayling, ordered a feasibility study into the reopening.The village playing field, at the bottom of Boothbridge Lane, is home to Thornton in Craven Cricket Club who compete in the Craven League. The team is heavily populated by players from nearby Earby and Barnoldswick, with a few representatives from the village itself. In 2022 the club were winners of the Third Division title and won the Cowling Cup. Poet Blake Morrison grew up in the village.

West Craven is an area in the east of Lancashire, England in the far northern part of the borough of Pendle. Historically the area was within the ancient county boundaries of Yorkshire and was administered as part of the Skipton Rural District of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. After 1974 and becoming part of the Pendle borough of Lancashire, the area that was formerly in the larger Craven area of the West Riding of Yorkshire has been known as West Craven owing to its cultural links with Yorkshire. Towns and villages in West Craven are: Barnoldswick, Earby, Sough, Kelbrook, Salterforth and Bracewell and Brogden. There is a West Craven Area Committee for Parish Councils in the area.West Craven is also the name of a ward of Craven district in North Yorkshire, adjoining the West Craven area in Lancashire. The ward includes the parishes of Broughton, Carleton, Elslack, Martons Both and Thornton in Craven.

West Marton is a village in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. It is on the A59 road about 6.5 miles (10.5 km) west of the market town of Skipton, and 8 miles (13 km) north of Colne.

West Craven High School is a mixed 11 to 16 comprehensive school in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, England.

Earby railway station was a junction station that served the town of Earby, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England. Since 1974 Earby is within the boundaries of the administrative county of Lancashire. The station was built by the Midland Railway, on the former Leeds and Bradford Extension Railway between Skipton and Colne and opened in 1848. The main line continued towards Skipton to the north. South of Earby, in the direction of Colne, there was a junction with a short branch towards Barnoldswick. The latter route succumbed to the Beeching Axe in September 1965, but the station remained open until 2 February 1970, when passenger trains between Colne and Skipton were withdrawn and the line closed to all traffic.The track through the station was lifted the following year, but the platforms and main buildings survived until final demolition in late 1976. The goods shed and former weighbridge still stand, having been bought by a local engineering company and adapted for commercial use whilst the site and former railway alignment have been protected from potential redevelopment by Lancashire County Council pending possible future reinstatement of the route as a transport corridor.

Martons Both is a civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. The civil parish is formed by the villages of East Marton and West Marton. According to the 2001 UK census, Martons Both parish had a population of 214, reducing marginally to 213 at the 2011 Census.

Salterforth is a village and civil parish within the Borough of Pendle in Lancashire, England. The population of the Civil Parish at the 2011 census was 637. It lies on the B6383 road that connects Barnoldswick to the A56 road at Kelbrook. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal cuts through the village and there are several narrowboat moorings at Salterforth. The canal footpath provides a picturesque walk to Barnoldswick or to Foulridge in the opposite direction. The village also has a canal side pub, The Anchor Inn along with a lovely children's play area. Historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Salterforth used to be within Skipton Rural District until 1974. Some of the local area is referred to as West Craven alluding to Salterforth's cultural links to the Craven area of North Yorkshire. Other local towns and villages are; Barnoldswick - 1 mile (1.6 km) north west, Kelbrook - 2 miles (3.2 km) east, Earby - 2 miles (3.2 km) north east, Thornton in Craven 3 miles (4.8 km) north east, Foulridge - 2 miles (3.2 km) south and Colne 3.5 miles (5.6 km) south.

Barnoldswick Town Football Club is a football club based in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, England. They are currently members of the North West Counties League Premier Division and play at Greenberfield Lane. They are affiliated to the West Riding County Football Association.

Earby is a town and civil parish within the Borough of Pendle, Lancashire, England. Although within the boundaries of the historic West Riding of Yorkshire, Earby has been administered by Lancashire County Council since 1974 and regularly celebrates its Yorkshire roots. It is 5 miles (8 km) north of Colne, 7 miles (11.3 km) south-west of Skipton, and 11 miles (17.7 km) north-east of Burnley. The parish had a population of 4,538 recorded in the 2011 census,

Barnoldswick railway station was the only railway station on the Midland Railway's 1-mile-64-chain (2.9 km) long Barnoldswick Branch in the West Riding of Yorkshire in England. It served the market town of Barnoldswick, which was in West Riding of Yorkshire at the time. The line left the Leeds and Bradford Extension Railway at Barnoldswick Junction 55 chains (3,600 ft; 1,100 m) from Earby railway station. The line through the junction was on a 20-chain (1,300 ft; 400 m) radius after which it converged to a single track and ran in a straight but undulating line to Barnoldswick. The passenger train that ran back and forth between Barnoldswick and Earby was known locally as the 'Barlick Spud' or 'Spudroaster'. The real reason for the name is lost in time, but the two versions that were commonly recited are that the original branch locomotive was so small it looked like a portable potato roaster used by a local vendor or that the journey time was the same as that taken to roast a potato in the locomotive's firebox. Barnoldswick has been in the Pendle District of Lancashire since 1974.
