Carlton Miniott, formerly Carlton Islebeck is a village and civil parish in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire, England, on the A61 road to the immediate west of Thirsk, 25 miles (40 km) north of York. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 926, increasing to 990 at the 2011 census.

Thirsk railway station is on the East Coast Main Line and serves the market town of Thirsk, North Yorkshire, England. It is 210 miles 56 chains (339.1 km) down the line from London King's Cross and is situated between York to the south and Northallerton to the north. Its three-letter station code is THI. The station is about 1.5 miles (2 km) outside of Thirsk town centre and is actually on the edge of the village of Carlton Miniott. There are four tracks, but only the outer two have platforms; the platform faces serving the innermost pair of tracks were removed in the 1970s in preparation for higher-speed main line running using InterCity 125 trains. The station is operated by TransPennine Express. Other train services are provided by the open-access operator Grand Central.

Topcliffe is a village and civil parish in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire, England. The village is situated on the River Swale, on the A167 road and close to the A168. It is about 5 miles (8 km) south-west of Thirsk and 11 miles (18 km) south of the county town of Northallerton. It has a population of 1,489. An army barracks, with a Royal Air Force airfield enclosed within, is located to the north of the village.

Queen Mary's School is a private day and boarding school for girls in Baldersby Park near Topcliffe, between Ripon and Thirsk in North Yorkshire, England. Established in 1921, the school is set on 50 acres (200,000 m2) of landscaped grounds and houses approximately 300 pupils. It caters to girls aged 3 to 16 and boys up to age 7. The school is a member of the Woodard Corporation and attended the 200th anniversary of the birth of the movement's founder in 2011. In 2015 the school celebrated its 90th anniversary.

Asenby is a village and civil parish in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England, with a population of 285 (2001 census), increasing to 311 at the 2011 census. The village is about 5 miles (8 km) south-west of Thirsk and 7 miles (11 km) east of Ripon. It is 12 miles (19 km) south of the County Town of Northallerton on the south bank of the River Swale.

Royal Air Force Dalton or more simply RAF Dalton is a former Royal Air Force satellite station located near to Dalton, North Yorkshire, England. The airfield was by RAF Bomber Command during the Second World War. It was a satellite of nearby RAF Topcliffe.

Thirsk Racecourse is a thoroughbred horse racing venue located in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, England. The course is a left handed oval of about 1 mile 2 furlongs with a 3 furlong finishing straight and a 6 furlong chute. The present course opened in 1923, but racing had taken place on the old course at nearby Black Hambleton over 200 years earlier.The main road from Ripon to Thirsk runs past the course, and it is very popular with northern trainers.In 1940 it staged the war-time substitute St. Leger.

Topcliffe Castle (also known as Maiden's Bower) is an abandoned castle located near the village of Topcliffe, North Yorkshire, England.The castle was built at the junction of the River Swale and Cod Beck. A motte and bailey castle was constructed around 1071. Archbishop Geoffrey of York re-fortified the castle in 1173 during the revolt of 1173-74, with William de Stuteville appointed as governor. The Percy family held Topcliffe. Edward III of England spent a few hours resting at the castle in August 1333. The castle appears to have been abandoned during the 14th century. In 1489, on the site of the castle, Henry Percy, 4th Earl of Northumberland was slain by an angry mob in regard to higher taxation.

The Thirsk rail crash occurred on 31 July 1967 at Thirsk, Yorkshire, England on the British Rail East Coast Main Line.

Thirsk School and Sixth Form College is a secondary school located in Sowerby, a village adjoining Thirsk, North Yorkshire, England. Thirsk School has nearly 1,200 pupils, including about 200 in the sixth form. The headteacher is Emma Lambden who took over in 2018 from the former head, Stuart Mason, when he left to take up a senior post in Norfolk.
