Szaflary

Gmina Szaflary is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Nowy Targ County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in southern Poland. Its seat is the village of Szaflary, which lies approximately 4 kilometres (2 mi) south of Nowy Targ and 71 km (44 mi) south of the regional capital Kraków. The gmina covers an area of 54.31 square kilometres (21.0 sq mi), and as of 2006 its total population is 10,227.

Its seat is the town of Nowy Targ, although the town is not part of the territory of the gmina. Nowy Targ [ˈnɔvɨ ˈtark] (Officially: Royal Free city of Nowy Targ, Yiddish: Naymark, Goral Dialect: Miasto) is a town in southern Poland, in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The historic architectural and urban complex of the town with a medieval market square has been preserved to this day.

It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. The county also contains the towns of Rabka-Zdrój, lying 18 km (11 mi) north of Nowy Targ, and Szczawnica, 35 km (22 mi) east of Nowy Targ. The Podhale is located in the foothills of the Tatra range of the Carpathian mountains. It is the most famous region of the Goral Lands which are a network of historical regions inhabited by Gorals.

Leśnica [lɛɕˈnit͡sa] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Bukowina Tatrzańska, within Tatra County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in southern Poland, close to the border with Slovakia. It lies approximately 7 kilometres (4 mi) north-west of Bukowina Tatrzańska, 14 km (9 mi) north-east of Zakopane, and 74 km (46 mi) south of the regional capital Kraków. The village has a few small stores along with a church and elementary school. It is very rural, with most of the residents owning animals and having small farms. The nearest city is Nowy Targ, where most of the residents do their shopping and where students go to for high school.

The Market Square (Polish: Rynek [ˈrɨnɛk]) in Nowy Targ is located in the center of the town. It was laid out for the first time in 1346, when the city was founded. There are 8 streets leading to the Market Square - two to each corner: Szaflarska St and Harcerska St to the south-eastern corner, John III Sobieski St and Tadeusz Kościuszko St to the north-east one, St. Catherine St and Szkolna St to the north-west one, and Kolejowa St and Casimir III the Great St to the south-west one. It has the shape of a rectangle with the dimensions of 138 x 110 m, which gives the area of 1.5 hectares (3.7 acres).
