Nottinghamshire (; abbreviated Notts.) is a ceremonial and non-metropolitan county in the East Midlands, England. A landlocked county, it is bordered by South Yorkshire to the north-west, Lincolnshire to the east, Leicestershire to the south, and Derbyshire to the west. The most-populated settlement is the City of Nottingham, which is administered as a unitary authority area. Nottinghamshire County Council, which administers the rest of the county, is based at West Bridgford in Rushcliffe. In 2017, the population was estimated to be 785,800. Nottinghamshire is divided into the seven non-metropolitan boroughs of Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Broxtowe, Gedling, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood, and Rushcliffe. Nottingham was administratively part of Nottinghamshire between 1974 and 1998, but is now a unitary authority which remains part of Nottinghamshire for ceremonial purposes. The county saw a minor change in its boundaries as Finningley was transferred to the City of Doncaster in South Yorkshire.

Bilsthorpe Colliery was a colliery in north Nottinghamshire. From when work started in 1925 to the pits closure in 1997, 77 people died at the pit.

Ompton is a village in Nottinghamshire, England, three miles south-east of Ollerton. It is in the civil parish of Ompton, but for census purposes its population count is included together with the civil parishes of Laxton and Moorhouse, and Ossington..Kneesall lies to the southwest, and Wellow to the north west . It has a red-brick chapel of 1860. About half a mile to the west is a water pumping station, built 1965–68 as a tiled pyramid on a glazed plinth.

The parish church of St Swithin is 12th century, which was restored, with a new chancel, in 1878–9. On the east and south sides of the village are the remains of a defensive ditch, which originally encircled the village. To the south is the deserted medieval village of Grimston, which now forms part of the Manor of Wellow. To the north east is Jordan Castle, a Norman ringwork consisting of a circular earthwork surrounded by a bank and ditch.Wellow also has, in Wellow Park, the largest remaining example of ash-wych elm woodland in Nottinghamshire.

Kirklington is a village and civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England. The population as of the 2011 census was 400, falling to 388 at the 2021 census. Kirklington lies on the A617 road between Newark (9½ miles to the east) and Mansfield (10 miles to the west). Kirklington once had a railway station on the Mansfield-Southwell line; it was closed to passenger traffic in 1929 and goods trains in 1964. The former trackbed is now the Southwell Trail footpath. Bilsthorpe Moor is a hamlet in the civil parish of Bilsthorpe, in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England. It is 120 miles north of London, 13 miles north east of the city of Nottingham, and 5 miles south of Ollerton, and close to the junction of the A614 and A617 roads.
