Waverly Historic District is a national historic district located at Columbia, South Carolina. The district encompasses 132 contributing buildings in the first suburban development at Columbia. They were built between about 1898 and 1925, and the district includes examples of Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Neoclassical, shotgun, American Foursquare, and Craftsman/Bungalow style architecture. The community has evolved from a predominantly white neighborhood into a community of African-American artisans, professionals and social reformers.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. It was added to the National Park Service African American Civil Rights Network in February 2021.Waverly Historic District is also recognized by the City of Columbia as a Preservation District known as Waverly Protection Area, bounded by Gervais Street, Harden Street, Taylor Street and Millwood Avenue. In addition to Waverly Historic District itself, the following sites within the Waverly Protection Area are listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places: Good Samaritan Waverly Hospital, Dr. Cyril O. Spann Medical Office, Allen University Historic District, Chappelle Administration Building, Ruth's Beauty Parlor (which was housed in a circa 1910 Sears house, model No. 118, ordered by Ruth's father, Nathanial H. Collins), and Woodrow Memorial Presbyterian Church . Historical markers in the Waverly Protection Area conferred by the South Carolina Department of Archives and History include: Allen University, Dr. Cyril O. Spann Medical Office, Visanska Starks House, Good Samaritan Waverly Hospital, First Calvary Baptist Church, Waverly, Matthew J. Perry House, Heidt-Russell House/Edwin R. Russell (one of the African-American scientists and technicians on the Manhattan Project) , James M. Hinton House, Waverly Five and Dime/George Elmore and Elmore v. Rice (a ruling by federal judge Julius Waties Waring).

Five Points in Columbia, South Carolina is a shopping, restaurant, and nightlife area that attracts customers from the nearby University of South Carolina and throughout the Columbia metropolitan area. It is the center for the city's annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival.It was Columbia's first neighborhood shopping district, named for the intersection of Harden Street, Devine Street and Santee Avenue. It was home to Columbia's first supermarket (an A & P), first Chinese restaurant (Kester’s Bamboo House), and the first bar in South Carolina to serve a cocktail (the Stage Door, which claimed to sell the state's first legal mixed drink after the South Carolina General Assembly approved the use of minibottles in 1973). When streetcars were prevalent, Five Points was a hub (rotating circle) for moving between downtown Columbia and the residential area of Shandon.In 2019, Five Points was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Woodrow Memorial Presbyterian Church (also known as Bishop's Memorial A.M.E. Church) is a historic church in Columbia, South Carolina.It was built in 1885 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. In addition to its National Register of Historic Places status, Woodrow Memorial falls within the boundaries of Waverly Protection Area, a Preservation District within the City of Columbia Urban Design and Historic Preservation District system, as well as in Waverly Historic District.

Claussen's Bakery, also known as Claussen's Inn, is a historic commercial bakery located at Columbia, South Carolina. It was built in 1928, and is a two-story, trapezoidal plan, brick building that contains a total of 25,000 square feet. The Columbia bakery ceased operating in 1963. It was later converted to a boutique hotel. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The Dr. Cyril O. Spann Medical Office, located in Columbia, South Carolina, served African-American patients during de jure and de facto racial segregation in the United States. Built in 1963, it was added to United States National Register of Historic Places on May 20, 2019.

Old Shandon Historic District is a national historic district located at Columbia, South Carolina. The district encompasses 42 contributing buildings in a planned middle class residential development. They were built between the 1890s and 1950s, and the district includes examples of Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Neoclassical Revival, and Craftsman/Bungalow style architecture. The district also includes the Shandon Baptist Church (Bethel A.M.E. Church) and Maple Street Southern Methodist Church.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Good Samaritan-Waverly Hospital, also known as “Good Sam” Hospital and Waverly Hospital, is a historic hospital for African-American patients located in Columbia, South Carolina. It was built in 1952, and is a two-story, brick building in the Moderne style. The hospital housed a pharmacy, laboratory, X-ray room, staff dining room, two operating rooms, and 50 beds to service the local community. The hospital closed in August 1973.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. In addition to its National Register of Historic Places status, the Hospital falls within the boundaries of Waverly Protection Area, a Preservation District within the City of Columbia Urban Design and Historic Preservation District system, as well as Waverly Historic District.

A. Fletcher Spigner House, also known as the Spigner-Wilson-Seibels House and Hanner House, is a historic home located at Columbia, South Carolina. It was built in 1920, and is a 2+1⁄2-story double-pile, rectangular frame residence in the Tudor Revival style. It has a one-story, central front portico, a red terra cotta tile roof, and faux half-timbering with a finish of stucco on the second floor. Also on the property is a 1+1⁄2-story garage. It was built for A. Fletcher Spigner, a prominent Columbia attorney, State Senator, and South Carolina's Fifth Circuit Solicitor.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Providence Hospitals was a two hospital health care system with 304 licensed beds. It is located in downtown Columbia, South Carolina, and was founded by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Augustine in 1938. The facility specialises in cardiac care, provided through the Providence Heart & Vascular Institute, which is recognized statewide as a referral center for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.Providence Hospital Northeast was established in 1999 and offers a range of medical services in surgery, emergency care, women's and children's services and rehabilitation. Providence Northeast is home to Providence Orthopaedic & Neuro Spine Institute, which provides medical and surgical treatment of diseases and injuries of the bones, joints and spine. The board of Medical University of South Carolina voted to acquire the hospital system in 2021. The hospitals had their names changed, and are now in MUSC Health.

Wallace-McGee House is a historic home located at Columbia, South Carolina. It built in 1937, and is a two-story International style stuccoed house. It features large areas of glass, a flat roof and a steel and reinforced concrete structural system. The front façade features a two-car garage topped by a sun deck. The house is based on plans by Edward Durell Stone published in Collier's Magazine on March 28, 1936.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Allen University is a private historically black university in Columbia, South Carolina. It has more than 600 students and still serves a predominantly Black constituency. The campus is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Allen University Historic District.

The Chappelle Administration Building, on the campus of Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, was designed by John Anderson Lankford, known as the "dean of black architects." The building name has been spelled Chapelle Administration Building in HABS and NPS reports. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976, cited as one Lankford's most important works.In addition to its National Register of Historic Places status, the Administration Building falls within the boundaries of Waverly Protection Area, a Preservation District within the City of Columbia Urban Design and Historic Preservation District system. This Preservation District is an expansion of Waverly Historic District.
