Moson County

Mosonmagyaróvár (Hungarian: [ˈmoʃonmɒɟɒroːvaːr]; German: Wieselburg-Ungarisch Altenburg; also known by other alternative names) is a town in Győr-Moson-Sopron County in northwestern Hungary. It lies close to both the Austrian and Slovakian borders and has a population of 32,752 (as of 2015). Mosonmagyaróvár used to be two separate towns, Magyaróvár (German: Ungarisch Altenburg, Slovak: Uhorský Starhrad) and Moson (German: Wieselburg, Slovak: Mošon). The town of Moson was the original capital of Moson County in the Kingdom of Hungary, but the county seat was moved to Magyaróvár during the Middle Ages. The two towns were combined in 1939, and by now almost all signs of dualism have disappeared, as the space between the two towns has become physically and culturally developed. Due to the name's length, Mosonmagyaróvár is also referred to as Óvár amongst locals and Moson by foreigners. The Hansági Museum is located in Mosonmagyaróvár.

Mosonmagyaróvár (Hungarian: Mosonmagyaróvári járás) is a district in northern part of Győr-Moson-Sopron County. Mosonmagyaróvár is also the name of the town where the district seat is found. The district is located in the Western Transdanubia Statistical Region.

The Battle of Moson was a battle in the Hungarian war of Independence of 1848-1849, fought on 30 October 1848 between the cavalry of the Hungarian revolutionary Army led by General Artúr Görgei against the cavalry of the Austrian Empire led by Lieutenant General Josip Jelačić, wanted to attack the retreating Hungarian main army. Görgei's artillery and hussars put the Austrian cavalry to flight, then continued their retreat to Győr.

The Leitha (German: [ˈlaɪtaː] ; Hungarian: Lajta, formerly Sár(-víz); Slovene: Litva; Czech and Slovak: Litava) is a river in Austria and Hungary, a right tributary of the Danube. It is 120.8 km (75.1 mi) long (168.5 km (104.7 mi) including its source river Schwarza). Its basin area is 2,138 km2 (825 sq mi).

Mosonmagyaróvár railway station (Hungarian: Mosonmagyaróvár vasútállomás) is a railway station in Mosonmagyaróvár, Győr-Moson-Sopron County, Hungary. The station opened on 24 December 1855. It is located on the main line between Vienna and Budapest (Line 1 Budapest–Hegyeshalom railway). Train services are operated by MÁV START.
