Absheron District

Baku Engineering University (Azerbaijani: Bakı Mühəndislik Universiteti) is a higher education institution which functions as a public legal entity under the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan Republic. Baku Engineering University's mission is "to prepare engineers at all levels of higher education, execute programs of higher and additional education in this sphere, and conduct fundamental and applied scientific research."

Xırdalan (Khyrdalan) is a city, municipality and the capital of the Absheron District of Azerbaijan. It has a population of 95,200. Khyrdalan is home of country's biggest brewery Baltika Baku, previously known as Khyrdalan . A monument to Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak was erected in 2007 in the city. Similarly, a statue of Heydar Aliyev was erected in Cairo in 2008. In the wake of the 2011 Egyptian protests, the Azerbaijani opposition, led by the Musavat Party, demanded the demolition of the statue, calling it a "worship of idols". On 8 June 2011, the statue was taken down following Mubarak's resignation.On 29 November 2006, the settlement gained city status after its approval by the National Assembly of Azerbaijan.

Qafqaz University (in Azerbaijani: Qafqaz Universiteti) was a private university located in Baku, Azerbaijan. It was founded in 1993 and was the first and the only foreign private university in the country. On 16 January 2017, it was decided by management to shut down the university.

Hökməli (also, Hokmaly and Hökmely) is a village and municipality in the Absheron Rayon of Azerbaijan. It has a population of 4,463.

Masazir (Azerbaijani: Masazır; also Masazyr) is a settlement and municipality in the Absheron District of Azerbaijan. It has a population of 18,967 and lies on the Lake Masazir.

Sulutəpə (also, Sulutepe or Sulu Tepe) is a settlement in Baku, Azerbaijan. The settlement forms part of the municipality of Biləcəri in Binəqədi raion.It is an unofficial township built up in the 1980s by rural migrants and refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh. There is oil there, and oil wells, on the land occupied by residents, ownership being claimed by "Binagadi Oil", which is, in turn, owned by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the Company "Global Energy Azerbaijan" which is registered in the Virgin Islands. Attempts by the oil company to evict squatters and demolish illegal construction have been controversial with residents strongly contesting the oil companies claims. It was reported that on April 17, 2012 a mob of local residents attacked oil company employees demolishing houses and that the employees, in turn, severely beat a local Azeri reporter, Idrak Abbasov, while he was filming the incident.

Bank Respublika Arena, former Alinja Arena, is a multi-use stadium in Masazır settlement of Absheron, Azerbaijan. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 8,600 people and opened in 2014.

The Battle of Baku (Azerbaijani: Bakı döyüşü, Turkish: Bakü Muharebesi, Russian: Битва за Баку) was a battle in World War I that took place between August–September 1918 between the Ottoman–Azerbaijani coalition forces led by Nuri Pasha and Bolshevik–ARF Baku Soviet forces, later succeeded by the British–Armenian–White Russian forces led by Lionel Dunsterville and saw Soviet Russia briefly re-enter the war. The battle was fought as a conclusive part of the Caucasus Campaign, but as a beginning of the Armenian–Azerbaijani War.

Xocəsən (also, Hocasan, Gadzhi-Gasan, Khodzhagasan, Khodzhasan, and Khodzhi-Gasan) is a settlement and municipality in Baku, Azerbaijan. It has a population of 5,100. Here is situated Hocasan Football Federation.

Qobu (Gobu) is a village and municipality in the Absheron District of Azerbaijan. It has a population of 7,997.

Masazirgol (Azerbaijani: Masazır gölü), or Lake Masazir, is a salty lake in Masazir, Azerbaijan, located on the Absheron Peninsula on the west coast of the Caspian Sea. The overall area of the lake is 10 km2. Large volumes of chloride and sulphate are concentrated in ion composition of the water. A new salt making plant was built here in 2010 for production of 2 Azeri brands of salt. The estimated amount of recoverable salt is 1,735 million tons. It is available in liquid (water) and clay forms.

The Binagadi asphalt lake (or Binagadi tar pits; Azerbaijani: Binəqədi gölü) are a cluster of tar pits in urban Baku, Azerbaijan. Asphaltum or tar has seeped up from the ground in this area for tens of thousands of years. The tar is often covered with dust, leaves, or water. Over many centuries, animals that were trapped in the tar were preserved as bones. This ancient flora and fauna deposit is protected by the State as a monument of a nature of the special significance pursuant to the Decree of the Government of Azerbaijan Republic No. 167 of March 16, 1982.
