Pine Island Reserve, a reserve containing a small plantation of pine trees, is located on the Murrumbidgee River where the river flows through the Tuggeranong district of Canberra, in the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. The closest suburb to the reserve and river island is Greenway.Pine Island is usually accessible by land and only becomes an island in time of peak flows in the Murrumbidgee River. The island is named for the Callitris endlicheri, or black cypress pines, that grow locally. This region was first explored by Europeans in 1820 by Charles Throsby. Throsby was looking for a suitable water source. He came across the Murrumbidgee River near Pine Island in April 1821.Facilities at the reserve include an area for picnicking, barbecues, potable water, and toilets. On the river, recreational pursuits during the warmer months include swimming, fishing, and kayaking. The area is also known for birdwatching. There is a bushwalking path called the Murrumbidgee Discovery Trail that runs south to Point Hut crossing and north to Kambah Pools through the Bullen Range Nature Reserve. Dogs are not permitted in the reserve.

It is next to the suburbs of Kambah, Wanniassa, Oxley, Monash and Bonython. It is bounded by Athllon Drive and Drakeford Drive. Behind the suburb is the Urambi Hills Nature Reserve and the Murrumbidgee River.

The Canberra Roller Derby League (CRDL) is a Canberra-based roller derby league. It was created in 2008, with the first bouts occurring in 2009. Canberra currently holds the Division 1 trophy for The Great Southern Slam. Canberra is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).The league features a four-team home league, plus the all-star Vice City Rollers, which represents the league in interleague play. At home bouts, the league has had attendances as high as 5,000, and has its own stable of officials who officiate the league and interstate bouts. The league's bouts are aired on ChannelVision, and they have had media coverage from 666 ABC Canberra.

The name Tuggeranong is derived from a Ngunnawal expression meaning "cold place". From the earliest colonial times, the plain extending south into the centre of the present-day territory was referred to as Tuggeranong. Covenant Christian School, formerly known as Covenant College, is an independent Christian primary and high school located on Woodcock Drive, Gordon in the Australian Capital Territory and owned and operated by an association of like-minded Christian parents and supporters. The official theological position of the school is based on the Westminster Confession of Faith and other expressions of the reformed faith. It currently caters for pupils in years K-10 and is co-educational. Covenant opened in 1991. As of 2023, it had a roll of around 283 students, and a college feeder program with Trinity Christian School for pupils in years 11 and 12. The school aims to provide quality Christ-centered education to students from Protestant denominations. In 2013 the school entered into a new phase of its development as it opened its doors to non-Christian students as well as Christian students. From 2014, the school changed its name to Covenant Christian School, which more clearly reflects its role as a provider of Primary and Secondary education. There are around 8 classrooms, a science lab, a library, preschool, and a COLA (Covered Outdoor Learning Center) as of 2023. The school had 183 students enrolled in K-10 in 2021. Of whom, 5 were international students. There were also 37 employed staff at CCS during the 2021 academic year of whom 22 were teaching staff and 15 were non-teaching staff.
