Palais Auersperg (Graz)

The Palais Meran is a palace in Graz, Styria, Austria. Built as a residence for Archduke John of Austria in 1843, it now serves as the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, surrounded by a public park.

It was founded in 1811 by Archduke John of Austria and is the oldest science and technology research and educational institute in Austria. It currently comprises seven faculties and is a public university. It offers 19 bachelor's and 35 master's study programmes (of which 19 are in English) across all technology and natural sciences disciplines. Doctoral training is organised in 14 English-speaking doctoral schools. The university has more than 16,000 students, and around 1,800 students graduate every year. The Graz University of Technology and the University of Graz co-operate in teaching and research of natural sciences.The university has a staff of 3,852. Research areas are combined in five fields of expertise. TU Graz, the University of Leoben and TU Wien form the network Austrian Universities of Technology (TU Austria) with more than 43,000 students and 10,000 staff.

The Medical University of Graz (Med Uni Graz) is a medical university in Austria that has been in existence since January 1, 2004, and has been a part of the Karl-Franzens University of Graz as a medical faculty since 1863.

St. Leonhard (German: [saŋkt ˈleːonhaʁt], in Germany [z-]) is the 2nd district of the Austrian city of Graz. It is located in the east of the city along the Leonhardbach and stretches south to the St. Peter City Cemetery. It borders the district of Geidorf to the north, Ries and Waltendorf to the east, Jakomini to the south and Innere Stadt to the west. The postal codes of Ries are 8010 and 8016. Within the district are situated the catholic churches of St. Leonhard (first mentioned in 1361) and Herz Jesu (Jesus heart - finished 1887), as well as the Protestant church Heilandskirche.

The Mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II in Graz was constructed beginning in 1614 under the patronage of Archduke Ferdinand II of Habsburg, who later became Holy Roman Emperor. It was intended to serve as a dynastic burial site and as a symbolic monument associated with the Catholic Counter Reformation in Inner Austria. During Ferdinand II’s reign, the Habsburg monarchy pursued policies that strengthened Catholic influence following the territorial and religious advances made by Protestantism in the region. In this context, the mausoleum was conceived as both a family crypt and a representation of religious and dynastic authority. According to scholarly research, Ferdinand II decided in 1614 to establish a burial site in Graz that would reflect both ecclesiastical and dynastic significance. He entrusted the planning and construction to his Italian court artist, Giovanni Pietro de Pomis. The project involved architects and sculptors over several decades and included elaborate Baroque decoration. The completed structure has been described by scholars as a "triumphal monument of Catholicism" and a "symbol of the Counter Reformation" in Inner Austria, reflecting its historical and religious significance during that period.

The Diocese of Graz-Seckau (Latin: Dioecesis Seccoviensis, German: Diözese Graz-Seckau) is a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church comprising the Austrian state of Styria. It is part of the Ecclesiastical Province of Salzburg.

Graz Cathedral (German: Grazer Dom), also called St. Giles' Cathedral (German: Dom St. Ägidius), is the cathedral church in the Austrian city of Graz, dedicated to Saint Giles. It is the seat of the bishop of the Steiermark diocese from 1786, called the Diocese of Graz-Seckau. The church was built as church of the Court (hofkirche) in 1438-62 by Friederick III in the Gothic architecture and later (1577-1773) officiated by the Jesuits that made some alterations in Baroque style. Nearby is Mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II.

The Akademisches Gymnasium is a coeducational gymnasium grammar school located in Graz, Styria, Austria. Founded in 1573 by Charles II, Archduke of Austria, it is the oldest secondary school in Graz.
