Wykeham is a small village and civil parish in the Scarborough district of North Yorkshire, England, on the outskirts of Scarborough and the southern boundary of the North York Moors National Park. It consists of a main street adjacent to the only pub; The Downe Arms. It lies around 7 miles (11 km) away from Scarborough and surrounding villages include: East Ayton, West Ayton, Snainton, Hutton Buscel, Brompton and Ruston. It has a cricket ground also which is hidden away in a small turning off the main road. To the north of the village is Wykeham Forest, which covers over 1,114 acres (451 ha).According to the 2011 UK census, Wykeham parish had a population of 280, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 290. In 2015, North Yorkshire County Council estimated that population had remained static at 280.A nunnery was established at Wykeham between 1140 and 1160 that was located to the south east of the village. The Anglican church in the village is a grade II* listed building. St Helen's and All Saints Parish Church was built between 1853 and 1855 by William Butterfield. A primary school is tied to the church. Wykeham Church of England Primary School, which has a nominal capacity of 60 pupils, was rated Good by Ofsted in 2016.Charm Park, a Point-to-point racecourse is close by the village, as are the Wykeham Lakes.

Hutton Buscel Village Hall is a historic building in Hutton Buscel, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The building was constructed in 1854 as the village school, with an adjoining house. It was almost certaintly designed by William Butterfield, as it resembles schools he designed in Wykeham. It was grade II listed in 1987. In 2002, it was converted to serve as the village hall. The building is constructed of sandstone with quoins and a slate roof. It has an L-shaped plan, and to the left is a single-storey two-house. To the right is the school, with a massive external chimney stack to the right. The garden front has one storey and an attic, and four bays. It contains a mullioned and transomed window, sash windows, and two half-dormers.

St Matthew's Church is the parish church of Hutton Buscel, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The oldest section of the church is the tower, which was built in about 1180. The nave dates from the 13th century, while the chancel, clerestory, south aisle, porch, and parapet are all 15th century. It was restored in 1855 by William Butterfield, the work including rebuilding the north aisle. The church was grade I listed in 1967. The church is built of sandstone with roofs of slate and stone flags. It consists of a nave with a clerestory, north and south aisles, a south porch, a chancel, and a west tower. The tower has three stages, a plinth, narrow round-arched lights, and paired round-arched bell openings with hood moulds, above which is a chamfered string course, a corbel table, and an embattled parapet. There are also embattled parapets on the aisles and the porch. The porch is gabled, and has a round-arched doorway, over which is a small canopied niche. Inside, there is an octagonal pulpit with Jacobean carved panels, an octagonal font designed by Butterfield, and some 18th-century monuments.

Sawdon railway station was situated on the North Eastern Railway's Pickering to Seamer branch line in North Yorkshire, England. It served the village of Brompton-by-Sawdon and to a lesser extent Sawdon itself. The station was named Sawdon to distinguish it from an existing station called Brompton (on the Leeds Northern Railway), near Northallerton, also in North Yorkshire. The station opened to passenger traffic on 1 May 1882, and the last trains ran on 3 June 1950. Sawdon was furnished with one platform, which had the station building on the northern side of the running line, and a small goods yard beyond the station building with an east facing connection to the main railway line. The goods yard had a crane capable of lifting 1-tonne (1.1-ton), and was equipped to handle a variety of goods including live stock.The station has been restored completely, as holiday accommodation.

Brompton is a civil parish in the Scarborough district of North Yorkshire, England, containing the villages of Brompton-by-Sawdon and Sawdon. The village of Brompton-by-Sawdon is about 8 miles (13 km) west of Scarborough itself, close to the North York Moors and on the A170 road. It lies on the northern edge of the Vale of Pickering, with the village of Sherburn 3 miles to the south. According to the 2011 UK census, Brompton parish had a population of 573, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 516.Under 'Brompton', the sign on entry to the village reads 'The Birthplace Of Aviation' owing to the long-term residence of pioneering aeronautical engineer Sir George Cayley. Brompton has been the seat of the Cayley family since the Middle Ages, and Sir George Cayley was buried in the graveyard of All Saints' Church in 1857. The poet William Wordsworth married Mary Hutchinson at All Saints' Church in the village, on 4 October 1802. A copy of the wedding certificate can be seen in All Saints Church. Low Hall, off Barnard Lane, is the former manor house of the village; the current building dates from the 17th century and is Grade II listed.Brompton Hall is a Georgian town house in the village centre, now a special school.

The Chapel of Rest, Brompton Cemetery, Brompton, Scarborough, in North Yorkshire, England is an early work by the ecclesiastical architect Temple Moore. It is a Grade II listed building.

Forge Valley railway station was situated on the North Eastern Railway's Pickering to Seamer branch line. It served the twin villages of East and West Ayton, and the local beauty spot Forge Valley. The station opened to passenger traffic on 1 May 1882.The station was host to a LNER camping coach from 1935 to 1939. The station closed on 3 June 1950 when the line closed to passenger traffic.The station was named Forge Valley after a local beauty spot to avoid naming it after either of the Ayton villages that it was located near. This was normal practice when another station existed on the network that could be confusing to passengers, in this case Great Ayton, which is on the Middlesbrough to Whitby Line.The station is currently in more workaday use as a road and council highways depot for North Yorkshire County Council.
