Hutton Buscel

St Matthew's Church is the parish church of Hutton Buscel, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The oldest section of the church is the tower, which was built in about 1180. The nave dates from the 13th century, while the chancel, clerestory, south aisle, porch, and parapet are all 15th century. It was restored in 1855 by William Butterfield, the work including rebuilding the north aisle. The church was grade I listed in 1967. The church is built of sandstone with roofs of slate and stone flags. It consists of a nave with a clerestory, north and south aisles, a south porch, a chancel, and a west tower. The tower has three stages, a plinth, narrow round-arched lights, and paired round-arched bell openings with hood moulds, above which is a chamfered string course, a corbel table, and an embattled parapet. There are also embattled parapets on the aisles and the porch. The porch is gabled, and has a round-arched doorway, over which is a small canopied niche. Inside, there is an octagonal pulpit with Jacobean carved panels, an octagonal font designed by Butterfield, and some 18th-century monuments.

Hutton Buscel Village Hall is a historic building in Hutton Buscel, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The building was constructed in 1854 as the village school, with an adjoining house. It was almost certaintly designed by William Butterfield, as it resembles schools he designed in Wykeham. It was grade II listed in 1987. In 2002, it was converted to serve as the village hall. The building is constructed of sandstone with quoins and a slate roof. It has an L-shaped plan, and to the left is a single-storey two-house. To the right is the school, with a massive external chimney stack to the right. The garden front has one storey and an attic, and four bays. It contains a mullioned and transomed window, sash windows, and two half-dormers.

Wykeham railway station was situated on the North Eastern Railway's Pickering to Seamer branch line. It served the villages of Wykeham and Ruston in North Yorkshire, England. The station opened to passenger traffic on 1 May 1882, and closed on 5 June 1950.

All Saints' Church is the parish church of Wykeham, a village near Scarborough, North Yorkshire, a town in England. A chapel was built in Wykeham in 1321 by John de Wykeham, and dedicated to Saint Helen. The building fell into ruin, although the tower remained standing. A new church was built immediately to the north between 1853 and 1855, to a design by William Butterfield. Once the church was complete, he restored the tower of the old church, adding a spire, and altering it to serve as a lychgate for the new building. The church was grade II* listed in 1967, while the lychgate is grade II listed. The church is built of sandstone with slate roofs. It consists of a nave with a clerestory, north and south aisles, a south porch, a chancel, and an organ loft and vestry. At the west end are three buttresses and two two-light windows with Y-tracery, above which is a lancet window. The east window has three lights with pointed heads and a continuous hood mould. Inside, the pulpit, font and altar candlesticks were all designed by Butterfield, while the choir stalls, altar rails, litany desk and candelabra were designed in 1937 by Robert Thompson. The east window has stained glass by William Wailes. The lychgate is built of sandstone, and has three stages, diagonal buttresses, string courses, and a staircase extension to the north with a slate roof. In the bottom stage is an archway with a double-chamfered surround and a pointed head, a narrow window and a clock face on the middle stage, and louvred two-light bell openings. Above is an octagonal broach spire with lucarnes and a weathervane.

Wykeham is a small village and civil parish in the Scarborough district of North Yorkshire, England, on the outskirts of Scarborough and the southern boundary of the North York Moors National Park. It consists of a main street adjacent to the only pub; The Downe Arms. It lies around 7 miles (11 km) away from Scarborough and surrounding villages include: East Ayton, West Ayton, Snainton, Hutton Buscel, Brompton and Ruston. It has a cricket ground also which is hidden away in a small turning off the main road. To the north of the village is Wykeham Forest, which covers over 1,114 acres (451 ha).According to the 2011 UK census, Wykeham parish had a population of 280, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 290. In 2015, North Yorkshire County Council estimated that population had remained static at 280.A nunnery was established at Wykeham between 1140 and 1160 that was located to the south east of the village. The Anglican church in the village is a grade II* listed building. St Helen's and All Saints Parish Church was built between 1853 and 1855 by William Butterfield. A primary school is tied to the church. Wykeham Church of England Primary School, which has a nominal capacity of 60 pupils, was rated Good by Ofsted in 2016.Charm Park, a Point-to-point racecourse is close by the village, as are the Wykeham Lakes.

Forge Valley railway station was situated on the North Eastern Railway's Pickering to Seamer branch line. It served the twin villages of East and West Ayton, and the local beauty spot Forge Valley. The station opened to passenger traffic on 1 May 1882.The station was host to a LNER camping coach from 1935 to 1939. The station closed on 3 June 1950 when the line closed to passenger traffic.The station was named Forge Valley after a local beauty spot to avoid naming it after either of the Ayton villages that it was located near. This was normal practice when another station existed on the network that could be confusing to passengers, in this case Great Ayton, which is on the Middlesbrough to Whitby Line.The station is currently in more workaday use as a road and council highways depot for North Yorkshire County Council.

West Ayton is a village and civil parish in the Scarborough district of North Yorkshire, England. Located upon the west bank of the River Derwent adjacent to East Ayton. According to the 2011 UK census, West Ayton parish had a population of 881, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 831.The ruins of Ayton castle can be found to the east of the village. The tower dates back to 1390 and was built by Ralph Eure. During the 1670s, stone from the castle was used to rebuild the bridge over the River Derwent.Just south of the village is the Wykeham Lakes park. This is a fishery and water-sports complex run by the Downe family's Dawnay Estates programme. The lakes are built on the site of a former First World War Royal Flying Corps airfield (known as West Ayton) that was used by No. 251 Squadron. The airfield was abandoned after 1919.

Wykeham Priory was a nunnery in Wykeham, North Yorkshire, England. It was established between 1140 and 1160 and was destroyed by fire during the reign of Edward III.In the mid-18th century, Wykeham Abbey was built on the site of the former priory.

The Ebenezer Methodist Chapel is a former chapel in East Ayton, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. William Clowes preached in East Ayton in the early 1820s, and a small Primitive Methodist chapel was built soon afterwards. As the congregation grew, a larger building was required, and the current building was completed in July 1842, at a cost of £470. Inside, the building originally had a gallery around three sides, the area under part of which had a sliding partition, in order that it could serve as a separate Sunday school. The building was grade II listed in 1967. The chapel was closed by the early 21st century and has been offered for sale, for conversion into a house. The chapel is built of sandstone, with angle pilasters forming quoins on the returns, and a hipped slate roof. On the front is a round-arched doorway with a fanlight, flanked by large round-arched windows, all with quoined surrounds. Above the doorway is a recessed dated panel. On the sides are sash windows with round arches in the upper floor and flat heads in the lower floor.

Ruston is a small village in the Scarborough district of North Yorkshire, England, forming part of the civil parish of Wykeham. The village is situated just off the A170 road, and approximately 5 miles (8 km) south-west from Scarborough.

St John the Baptist's Church is the parish church of East Ayton, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The church was built in about 1135, replacing an earlier chapel. From this 12th-century building survive the nave, south doorway, chancel arch and lower parts of the tower. The chancel was added in the 13th century, and it was altered in the 15th century, when the nave windows were also altered, the tower heightened, and buttresses added to the nave. The bell and lead roof were removed in 1548, during the suppression of chantry chapels. The south porch was added in 1634, and the chancel was partly rebuilt in the 18th century. A vestry was added in the 19th century. The church was grade II* listed in 1967. The church is built of sandstone. The body of the church has a pantile roof and the roofs of the porch and vestry are slated. The church consists of a three-bay nave, a south porch, a chancel with a north vestry, and a west tower partly embraced by the nave. The tower has three stages, a lancet window, lancet bell openings, and an embattled parapet. The porch is gabled with a flat opening, and the round-headed south doorway is Norman with one order, and beakhead moulding. The east window is in Venetian style. Inside, there is a 12th-century font.
