Forge Valley railway station

West Ayton is a village and civil parish in the Scarborough district of North Yorkshire, England. Located upon the west bank of the River Derwent adjacent to East Ayton. According to the 2011 UK census, West Ayton parish had a population of 881, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 831.The ruins of Ayton castle can be found to the east of the village. The tower dates back to 1390 and was built by Ralph Eure. During the 1670s, stone from the castle was used to rebuild the bridge over the River Derwent.Just south of the village is the Wykeham Lakes park. This is a fishery and water-sports complex run by the Downe family's Dawnay Estates programme. The lakes are built on the site of a former First World War Royal Flying Corps airfield (known as West Ayton) that was used by No. 251 Squadron. The airfield was abandoned after 1919.

Forge Valley is a national nature reserve in the Scarborough district of North Yorkshire, England, located within the North York Moors National Park on the East Ayton / Hackness road. The valley follows the route of the River Derwent and was formed by melting ice water at the end of the last ice age. The NNR at Forge Valley covers over 63 hectares (160 acres).The area is now covered with woodlands which are thought to be 6,000 years old. Forge Valley takes its name from the fact that charcoal was produced in these woods, for use in iron forges. There was a foundry to the north of the valley in 1798.Forge Valley is managed by Raincliffe Woods Community Enterprise CIC.

Wykeham railway station was situated on the North Eastern Railway's Pickering to Seamer branch line. It served the villages of Wykeham and Ruston in North Yorkshire, England. The station opened to passenger traffic on 1 May 1882, and closed on 5 June 1950.

In 2015, North Yorkshire County Council estimated that population had remained static at 280.A nunnery was established at Wykeham between 1140 and 1160 that was located to the south east of the village. The Anglican church in the village is a grade II* listed building. St Helen's and All Saints Parish Church was built between 1853 and 1855 by William Butterfield. A primary school is tied to the church. Wykeham Church of England Primary School, which has a nominal capacity of 60 pupils, was rated Good by Ofsted in 2016.Charm Park, a Point-to-point racecourse is close by the village, as are the Wykeham Lakes.
