De Beauvoir is a ward encompassing De Beauvoir Town in the London Borough of Hackney and forms part of the Hackney South and Shoreditch constituency. The ward has existed since the creation of the borough on 1 April 1965 and was first used in the 1964 elections. The boundaries of the ward from May 2014 are revised.

De Beauvoir Town is a neighbourhood in east London and is in the London Borough of Hackney, 2 miles (3.2 km) north of the City of London. The area was a part of the Hackney; the Ancient Parish and subsequent Metropolitan Borough that was incorporated into the larger modern borough. It is sometimes described as a part of Dalston, which is in turn, also a part of the former parish and borough of Hackney.The name is pronounced variously; notably and , with some who use the former applying the nickname Beavertown.The area was developed in the mid-19th century, much of it as a carefully planned new town designed to attract prosperous residents, although it does include a range of other housing and land use types. The new town was based around De Beauvoir Square and primarily built in the Jacobethan style. The special character of the neighbourhood has been retained and is recognised by the designation of the De Beauvoir and Kingsland Road Conservation Areas which include many listed and other notable buildings.

Kingsland was a small road-side settlement centred on Kingsland High Street on the Old North Road (the present A10), around the junction with Dalston Lane. It is no longer discernable as a separate settlement, though the historic street pattern remains. Since the opening of Dalston Junction station in 1865, the area has become known as Dalston, which was originally a separate hamlet further east. Historically part of the county of Middlesex, the area is within the London Borough of Hackney.

Southgate Road is a street in London, England, that runs from Baring Street in the south to the junction with Mildmay Park and Ball's Pond Road in the north. The street forms a part of the B102 road, leading from Newington Green to The City. The west side of Southgate Road is in the London Borough of Islington; and the east side is in the London Borough of Hackney. Southgate Road lies north of the Regent's Canal, west of De Beauvoir Town and east of Essex Road. Joseph Stalin, Vladimir Lenin and Leon Trotsky visited Southgate Road for the 5th Congress of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party in 1907, which was held at the Brotherhood Church which once stood on the corner of Southgate Road and Balmes Road. The site is now occupied by a mixed-use residential and business building, with the exact site of the church now a Tesco Express shop. In the 1950s the area was a popular area for musicians and artists, so much so that Salvador Dalí and Buddy Holly opened a short lived nightclub called the Loyala on the corner on Balls Pond Road. It closed down after three months due to the lack of a licence. Today, a number of new developments are assisting in the regeneration of the area.

The Metropolitan Free Hospital was a London hospital, founded in 1836 and based for most of its existence in Kingsland Road, Hackney. It became part of the NHS in 1948, and closed in 1977, with its residual functions transferring to Barts Hospital.

Kingsland Basin is a canal basin in the De Beauvoir Town area of the London Borough of Hackney. The basin, which is also known as Kingsland Road Basin, dates from 1822 and is part of the Regents Canal. The area is the site of numerous housing redevelopments.

Kingsland Road is the name given to an East London stretch of the A10 road within the London Borough of Hackney in England. The A10 was originally a Roman Road better known as Ermine Street or sometimes the Old North Road. The name Kingsland Road is used from the junction with Old Street and Hackney Road (the section of the A10 south of this is Shoreditch High Street) north to the junction with Balls Pond Road and Dalston Lane, where it changes its name to Kingsland High Street. Kingsland Road means the road to Kingsland, an old settlement that has been absorbed by modern Dalston. The quality and variety of architectural styles present along the road has led to the Kingsland Road corridor being designated a conservation area.The Museum of the Home formerly known as Geffrye Museum is located on Kingsland Road. There are both wealthy and parts with almshouses there.The band Kingsland Road named themselves "Kingsland" after the road, before later expanding their name.

The Stag's Head, Hoxton is a Grade II listed public house on Orsman Road, in the Hoxton area of Shoreditch, in London's East End. It was built in 1936 for Truman's Brewery, and designed by their in-house architect A. E. Sewell.It was Grade II listed in 2015 by Historic England.

Power Lunches Arts Café was a music venue, rehearsal space, and creative hub located on Kingsland Road in Dalston, a district of the London Borough of Hackney. It opened in 2011 and closed in 2015. It started out with gigs planned to be only at weekends, but later became a prominent feature of Hackney’s DIY music scene with gigs most nights every week. Though originally genuinely also a café, it eventually stopped serving food. The cafe hosted performances in its basement, the maximum capacity of which was 150. These were most often concerts by local bands, but also saw acts from elsewhere in the UK, as well as further afield. Staff of the venue hosted a radio show showcasing the type of musicians to appear there on NTS Radio between 2012 and 2015.

Passing Clouds was a community run music venue near Kingsland Road, Dalston in East London. Founded in 2006, the venue was used for a range of activities. It was closed down in 2016, squatted and then finally evicted. After a period of dereliction it was announced in 2019 that it would re-open as a different venue.

The New Era estate is a housing estate in Hoxton, in the London Borough of Hackney, part of East London. Approximately 100 families lived on the estate in 2015.The New Era Tenants' Association of estate residents had been involved in protests over the increase in rents proposed by its new landlord, the U.S.-based investment fund Westbrook Partners. After Russell Brand joined the protests in 2014, footage of his clash with a television reporter at a 10 Downing Street demonstration in Westminster went viral on YouTube, bringing the issue to greater public notice. A petition raised 350,000 signatures in support of the residents, and Hackney Council became involved in negotiations with Westbrook Partners.In December 2014, it was confirmed that the housing estate was to be sold to the affordable housing group Dolphin Living, a housing provider owned by the Dolphin Square Charitable Foundation.

The Towers of Hackney was one of many names used to describe a folk art sculpture park made out of large wooden structures in Dalston, London Borough of Hackney. Other names include "The Castle of Hackney", "Snippa" and "Silentpark". The sculpture park was developed by different people living in the area for almost 30 years, and was demolished in 2009. Just as the participants shifted so did the overall appearance of the structures. The park was also used as a children's playground and a community garden. Artist Emanuel Almborg used the site and the stories about it as inspiration for his project The Rest Is Silence, which has resulted in talks, exhibitions and a book. The sculpture was dismantled in January 2009, to make way for new developments in the area.
