Macedon railway station is located on the Deniliquin line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the town of Macedon, and it opened on 8 July 1861 as Middle Gully. It was renamed Macedon on 1 April 1870.Sidings and a crossover once existed at the station. By 1984, they were abolished. In 1994, the Victoria Street level crossing, which was located at the down end of the station, was closed to road traffic except for emergency access vehicles. It was closed altogether in 1995.In March 2014, the platforms were extended to accommodate longer trains.

Mount Macedon ( MASS-ə-dən) is a town 64 kilometres (40 mi) north-west of Melbourne in the Australian state of Victoria. New Gisborne is a suburb of Gisborne in Victoria, Australia, in the foothills of Mount Macedon in the Shire of Macedon Ranges. The Gisborne railway station on the Bendigo line is located in New Gisborne, and a bus service connects residents of the two towns between the railway station and the Gisborne town centre. At the 2011 census, New Gisborne had a population of 2,380.New Gisborne is serviced by a variety of community facilities, including a swim centre, netball courts and medical centre. The Baringo Food and Wine Co. is located in New Gisborne and operates a cafe and bistro, with plans for an arthouse cinema to open in 2015. There are a number of preschools and primary schools in the area including The Gisborne Montessori School, Holy Cross Primary School and New Gisborne Primary School. The New Gisborne post office opened on 1 September 1861, but closed down on 27 June 1994.

Braemar College is an ecumenical co-curricular private school located on Mount Macedon in Woodend, Victoria, Australia. Initially the school's board consisted of representatives from the three local municipalities (Shire of Gisborne, Shire of Romsey and Shire of Newham and Woodend – now replaced by the newer Shire of Macedon Ranges) and the three local Christian denomination churches (Anglican, Catholic and Uniting). The school's motto is Unum Corpus Multi Sumus (One body, many parts).

Clyde School was founded as a private girls' school in 1910 in Alma Road, St Kilda, Victoria, Australia by Isabel Henderson, a leading educationist of her day. It quickly gained a reputation for excellent academic results. The school was relocated to Macedon, near Hanging Rock in 1919.

The town is in the Shire of Macedon Ranges local government area and is bypassed to the east and north by the Calder Freeway (M79), located about halfway between Melbourne and Bendigo. At the 2021 census, Woodend had a population of 6,732 and is located on the Country of the Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Peoples who are traditional custodians of this area.

The Electoral district of Gisborne was an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It was created in 1967 and abolished in 2002.A notable member was Athol Guy, of the folk/pop group The Seekers.
