Brookfield is an electoral ward of the city of Preston, in Lancashire, England. It is located north-east of the city centre, in the suburb of Ribbleton. At the 2001 census the ward had a population of 7,625, reducing to 7,301 at the 2011 Census. The area is represented on the city council by three Labour councillors. The area forms part of the Preston East division of Lancashire County Council, represented by one Labour councillor. The area is mainly residential, and the majority of homes are privately owned although there is also a large council estate. The ward also contains a modern business park, which includes the head office of Booths, a regional chain of supermarkets. This is close to junction 31A on the M6 motorway.

Ribbleton is a suburb and ward of the city of Preston, Lancashire, England. It is located to the east of the city centre, between the A59 New Hall Lane and the B6243 Longridge Road. The M6 motorway also runs through the area. The ward had a population of 7,351 recorded in the 2001 census increasing to 8,548 at the 2011 Census.

Red Scar Works was built in 1939 by Courtaulds and produced rayon. It was located in Ribbleton Preston off Longridge Road. The closure of the works was announced in November 1979 and the issue raised in the UK Parliament House of Commons by the constituency MP. At the time of closure approximately 2,600 people were employed there but there were approximately 4,000 at its peak. It was the largest rayon producing site in Britain. Two main products were manufactured with one being tyre cord by a process known as CSPT – Continuous Spinning Process Tenasco. Two main denier of this product were manufactured. The other product was a general textile called Bright. A range of deniers of this were produced in a range of colours. The trade name for the coloured product was Duracol. At the time of closure, one reason given by management for the closure was the rising popularity of steel belt radial tires thus reducing demand for tyre cord. The factory was connected by rail as a branch of what was the Preston and Longridge Railway. The plant had its own power production facility. The main raw materials brought in by rail were coal, sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, carbon disulfide and wood pulp.

Fernyhalgh Wood () is a woodland in Fulwood, Preston, Lancashire, England. It covers a total area of 4.58 hectares (11.32 acres). It is owned and managed by the Woodland Trust.

St Matthew's is an electoral ward in Preston, Lancashire, England. The ward is adjacent to the larger Ribbleton to the east but is considered to be an area with a distinct community of its own. The ward is named after the large St Matthew's Church within its borders. Three members of Preston City Council, elected 'in thirds' in first past the post elections each year, are returned from the ward. The ward forms part of the Lancashire County Council electoral division of Preston East.

The Cuerdale Hoard is a hoard of more than 8,600 items, including silver coins, English and Carolingian jewellery, hacksilver and ingots. It was discovered on 15 May 1840 on the southern bank of a bend of the River Ribble, in an area called Cuerdale near Preston, Lancashire, England. The Cuerdale Hoard is one of the largest Viking silver hoards ever found, four times larger than its nearest rival in Britain or Ireland, according to Richard Hall. In weight and number of pieces, it is second only to the Spillings Hoard found on Gotland, Sweden. The coins in the hoard are from three sources, represented in the proportions 5:1:1. Viking kingdoms of eastern England are represented in the largest portion; the other two portions are of Alfred's Kingdom of Wessex and of coins from foreign sources, which include Byzantine, Scandinavian, Islamic, Papal, North Italian and Carolingian mintings, many of the last from Aquitaine perhaps, Richard Hall suggests, acquired there in the Viking raids of 898.

Preston Rural East is an electoral ward in the City of Preston, Lancashire, England. The ward is in the eastern and northeastern part of the city near the M55 motorway moving out towards Sherwood and Grimsargh. The population of the ward at the 2011 census was 4,577.

St Matthew's Church, is in New Hall Lane, Preston, Lancashire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Preston, the archdeaconry of Lancaster, and the diocese of Blackburn. The church was built in 1881–83 to a design by James Hibbert. In 1932–33 Henry Paley of the Lancaster practice of Austin and Paley added a chapel and vestries and completed the chancel at a cost of £2,637 (equivalent to £200,000 in 2021). The plan of the church consists of a nave, north and south aisles, a chancel with a canted apse, and a porch treated as a transept. Hartwell and Pevsner in the Buildings of England series comment that it is "an interesting building by the architect of the Harris Museum.

Deepdale is an electoral ward in Preston, Lancashire, England. The population of the ward as taken at the 2011 census was 6,103. The ward is home to the Deepdale football stadium of Preston North End. The ward is a predominantly urban area of terraced housing, notable for one of the largest South Asian populations in the city.Deepdale borders Moor Park. The area has a number of mosques. The former Deepdale railway station was to be found in this ward. Two members of Preston City Council, elected 'in thirds' in first past the post elections each year, are returned from the ward. The ward forms part of the Lancashire County Council electoral division of Preston Central North.

Haighton is a civil parish in the City of Preston, Lancashire, England. It is a rural area north east of the urban city of Preston, beyond Fulwood and Brookfield.

St Mary's Church is in Fernyhalgh Lane, Broughton, Lancashire, England. It is a Roman Catholic church located near the shrine at Ladyewell House. The church was built in 1792–94 to provide services for pilgrims when the chapel at the house became too small for the numbers attending. Attached to the east of the church is the presbytery, and both are built in red brick with sandstone dressings with slate roofs. Near the church is a school built in 1836, and later used for other purposes. Ladyewell House contains a 16th-century altar, relics and memorabilia, and in garden are a chapel and a holy well. The church and house are in active use for church services, pilgrimages, and visitors.
