Štefanov nad Oravou

Orava (Slovak: Oravská priehrada) is a reservoir in northernmost Slovakia, forming the largest lake in Slovakia (35.2 km2).

Tvrdošín (German: Turdoschin or Thurdossin; Hungarian: Turdossin; Polish: Twardoszyn) is a town in central Slovakia.

Tvrdošín District (okres Tvrdošín) is a district in the Žilina Region of central Slovakia. The district was first established in 1996; in 1923 it had been a part of Trstená District.

The Roman Catholic Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Tvrdošín, region Orava, Slovakia. Original wooden church was built in first half of 17th century. The church was burned down few times. Current walled Most Holy Trinity Church was begun to build on 24 May 1766. From the original wooden church, only a tower (from 1628), a middle choir, an oratory and a sanctuary remained. The church was sanctified on 2 June 1770 on Most Holy Trinity day. During the Second World War the church was targeted by mines. East part of roof was damaged, also the baroque altar. Innovation of left side baroque main altar was realized after 1945 by academic artist Ctibor Belan cooperate with benched master Jan Rakyta. The church contains a monumental late-baroque altar, the Marian column (from late 18th century), the Sculpture of Saint John of Nepomuk (from late 18th century), and a folk sculpture of Saint Florian (from second half of 18th century).

Carpathian Wooden Churches is the name of a UNESCO World Heritage Site that consists of nine wooden religious buildings constructed between the 16th and 18th centuries in eight different locations in Slovakia. They include two Roman Catholic (Hervartov, Tvrdošín), three Protestant (so-called Articular churches in Hronsek, Leštiny, Kežmarok) and three Greek Catholic churches (Bodružal, Ruská Bystrá, Ladomirová) plus one belfry in Hronsek. In addition to these churches there are about 50 more wooden churches in the territory of present-day Slovakia mainly in the northern and eastern part of the Prešov Region (see e.g. this map).

Bird Island (Slovak: Vtáčí ostrov) is a 6.86-hectare (17.0-acre) island in the Hrušovská zdrž (2518 ha), which is part of Gabčíkovo Reservoir, south-west of Šamorín, Slovakia. The island was built because of the constructions of the Gabčíkovo-Nagymaros dams on the Danube as habitat compensation for areas consequently flooded. The island is part of proposed special protected areas Dunajské luhy for waterbirds. The most important breeding birds are Mediterranean gull (Larus melanocephalus), which is the only breeding site in Slovakia, and common redshank (Tringa totanus), for which it is the only breeding site in West Slovakia. Access is prohibited during the breeding and wintering seasons.

Námestovo (Hungarian: Námesztó; Polish: Namiestów) is a town in northern Slovakia. It is the capital and largest town of Námestovo District in the Žilina Region. As of 2018 its population was 7,827.

The Namestovo church is in Námestovo in what is now Slovakia. The oldest record of a Christian congregation in this location is from 1555; however the church building is believed to have been constructed between 1655 and 1658. This was a chapel which now serves as an entry to the church. The church's first pastor was Ján Neborovini. Later Štefan Boczko ascended to this post. He was engaged in Piko's rebellion and he fled before punishment to Transylvania. In 1672, for the first time, Namestovo's pastorate was occupied by a Catholic priest, Róbert Chmeľovsky, who was supported by Jesuit priests from Lokca's pastorage. In 1706 a Protestant pastor named Jastrabini Fabianus occupied the church; he was followed by Juraj Pixiades, the last Protestant pastor in Namestovo.Pastorage in Namestovo has been occupied by Catholic priests from 1711. During the fire that happened in the 18th century, the whole upper part of Namestovo and the roof of church were burned. In 1775, there was a fire which resulted in the whole upper part of Namestovo and the roof of church were burned; the church was then rebuilt and dedicated to St Simon and St Jude. The church caught fire again in 1877 and was restored in the neo-Romanesque style; another fire broke out in 1906 and again during WWII. In 1999 the church opened an elementary school dedicated to St Gorazda; the following year the Don Bosco Salesian religious house was created by the church, followed by the Department of Church and Temple Music which trains church organists. The church is now known as the Roman Catholic Church of St Simon and St Jude in Námestovo.

Námestovo District (okres Námestovo) is a district in the Žilina Region of central Slovakia. Until 1918, the district was part of Árva County, an administrative division of the Kingdom of Hungary.

Podbiel (Hungarian: Podbjel) is a village and municipality in Tvrdošín District in the Žilina Region of northern Slovakia. It contains a beautiful set of traditional wooden cottages, which have been declared a folk architecture preservation area.
