Nováky

The lignite fired Nováky Power Plant is located in Zemianske Kostoľany near the Novácke uhoľné bane coal mines in the District of Prievidza, Slovakia. In addition to electricity generation and supply, Nováky Power Plant provides for hot water supplies for heating of the towns of Prievidza, Nováky, Zemianske Kostoľany as well as for industrial and other organisations and steam for heat supplies to surrounding industrial enterprises. It has a 150m tall chimney, built in 1963 and a 300-metre tall chimney, built in 1976. The power station operates in the Slovak power system under basic and semi-peak modes. With its installed capacity of 266 MWe it accounts for some 6% of Slovenské elektrárne, a.s. installed capacity. The power plant was ranked by the European Environment Agency as the industrial facility that is causing the highest damage costs to health and the environment in Slovakia and the 18th worst in the entire European Union. It was calculated that the total cost to health and environment of the Nováky Power Plant was between 1.814 and 5.003 billion euro over the 5-year period of 2008 and 2012. In 2019, the European Commission approved a measure under state aid rules to ensure the plant stays operational even when not profitable, to ensure security of supply in the region. Scheduled to close in 2023.

Handlovka is a river in central Slovakia (Prievidza District), left tributary of the Nitra river. It is 30.5 km (19.0 mi) long and its basin size is 176 km2 (68 sq mi). Its source is in the Vtacnik Mountains, near the Biely kameň. It is located at an elevation of 244 meters above sea level. Major cities and towns situated on the Handlovka are Handlová and Prievidza. The first name of the river was Prievidza. Handlovka is also known as Handlova, Handlovka, Handlová. An approximately regular course of groundwater storage curve was disconnected for the whole period from 1993 to 1997. Average groundwater storage is varying around 370 mm per month in winter months and around 200 mm per month in summer months.

Bojnice Castle (Slovak: Bojnický zámok, Hungarian: Bajmóci vár) is a medieval castle in Bojnice, Slovakia. It is a Romanesque castle with some original Gothic and Renaissance elements built in the 12th century. Bojnice Castle is one of the most visited castles in Slovakia, receiving hundreds of thousands of visitors every year and also being a popular filming stage for fantasy and fairy-tale movies. It was owned by Hungarian kings and nobleman from the 12th century until the territory became part of Czechoslovakia after the Treaty of Trianon in 1920 and was acquired by a Czech entrepreneur in 1939.

The Slovak National Zoological Garden (Slovak: Národná zoologická záhrada Bojnice) is a 42-hectare (100-acre) zoo in the town of Bojnice, Slovakia. It is the oldest and most visited of Slovak zoos, being established in 1955. The zoo received more than 400,000 visitors in the year 2018.As of 2022, it presents over 360 different species, with a total of over 2700 specimens. Its primary attractions include the African elephant and Carpathian lynx. It is the only zoo in Slovakia with species such as the agile wallaby, Hamlyn's monkey, African palm civet, red-fan parrot and more.The Bojnice Zoo is managed by the ministry of environment of the Slovak Republic.
