1887 Hartford Railroad Disaster

Hartford is a town in Windsor County, Vermont, United States. It is on the New Hampshire border, at the intersection of Interstates 89 and 91. It is the site of the confluence of the White and Connecticut rivers; the Ottauquechee River also flows through the town. The town is composed of five unincorporated villages: Hartford, Quechee, West Hartford, White River Junction and Wilder. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,686.

The Jericho Rural Historic District encompasses a rural agricultural landscape of northern Hartford, Vermont, extending slightly into neighboring Norwich. The area covers 774 acres (313 ha) of mainly agricultural and formerly agricultural lands, as well as associated woodlots, and includes nine historically significant farm complexes. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

The Joseph and Daniel Marsh House is a historic farmstead at 1119 Quechee Main Street, just outside the village Quechee in Hartford, Vermont. Built in 1793, it was the home of Joseph Marsh, one of Hartford's early settlers and the first Lieutenant Governor of Vermont. Now the Quechee Inn, the property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

The Jedediah Strong II House is a historic house at the junction of Quechee Main Street and Dewey's Mill Road in Hartford, Vermont. Built in 1815 by a local mill owner, it is a fine local example of a high-style Federal period brick house. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. It now houses professional offices.

The West Hartford Bridge is a steel deck girder bridge carrying Town Highway 14 (the Quechee-West Hartford Road) across the White River in the village of West Hartford, Vermont. It was built by the town with state assistance in 2006, replacing a Parker through truss bridge built by the state after Vermont's devastating 1927 floods. The 1929 bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

West Hartford is an unincorporated community village in the town of Hartford, Windsor County, Vermont. It is one of Hartford's five villages, situated on the White River and crossed by the Appalachian Trail. West Hartford no longer has a post office, but still has a local library, and a town park. The White River, is a nearby fishing site. The village's center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the West Hartford Village Historic District.

The Dewey House is a historic house at 173 Deweys Mills Road in Hartford, Vermont. Built in 1876 by a local mill owner, and remodeled in 1903, it is a high quality local example of residential Colonial Revival architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

The Windsor-6-2 Representative District is a two-member state Representative district in the U.S. state of Vermont. It is one of the 108 one or two member districts into which the state was divided by the redistricting and reapportionment plan developed by the Vermont General Assembly following the 2000 U.S. Census. The plan applies to legislatures elected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. A new plan will be developed in 2012 following the 2010 U.S. Census. The Windsor-6-2 District includes that part of the Windsor County town of Hartford not included in Windsor-6-1. As of the 2000 census, the state as a whole had a population of 608,827. As there are a total of 150 representatives, there were 4,059 residents per representative (or 8,118 residents per two representatives). The two member Windsor-6-2 District had a population of 8,098 in that same census, 0.25% below the state average.

The Quechee Historic Mill District encompasses the historic heart of the village of Quechee, Vermont, a well-preserved 19th-century mill village. Extending along Quechee Main Street between the Old Quechee Road and the Quechee-West Hartford Road, the village was settled in the 1760s, and has an industrial history extending into the 20th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

The Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) is a non-profit environmental education organization based in Quechee, Vermont. Its mission is to motivate individuals and communities to care for the environment through education, research, and avian wildlife rehabilitation.

Quechee is a census-designated place and one of five unincorporated villages in the town of Hartford, Windsor County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of the CDP was 656. It is the site of Quechee Gorge on the Ottauquechee River and is also the home to the Quechee Lakes planned community, initiated in the late 1960s, which also brought to the community the small Quechee Lakes Ski Area in the 1970s. Quechee was known for a picturesque covered bridge at the site of the old Quechee mill, which now houses the Simon Pearce glass-blowing facility and restaurant. The bridge was severely damaged by flooding caused by Hurricane Irene in 2011. The bridge has since been rebuilt. Quechee has a small branch post office with zip code 05059. The region was historically inhabited by tribes of the Abenaki people; evidence exists of an ancient Abenaki village at the site of Quechee, in addition to more recent Abenaki settlements and activity throughout Hartford.

The Quechee State Park is located on US Route 4 in Quechee, Vermont. The park land is owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers and leased from by the State of Vermont. The park contains the Quechee Gorge, a popular Vermont tourist stop. The land was originally the site of the Dewey wool mill which ceased operation in 1952 and relocated to Enfield, New Hampshire. Shortly after the closing of the Mill the US Army Corps of Engineers acquired the property as part of its regional flood control plan. A hydroelectric dam sits at the north end of the gorge. Activities include camping, hiking, swimming, river fishing, picnicking, wildlife watching and winter sports.Camping facilities include 45 tent/trailer sites and 7 lean-to sites, two bathrooms with showers and a sanitary dump station. There is also a large field and play area, a picnic area next to Quechee Gorge with a pit toilet and a hiking trail along the gorge.
