Olomouc (administrative district)

Bystrovany is a municipality and village in Olomouc District in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,000 inhabitants. Bystrovany lies approximately 5 kilometres (3 mi) east of Olomouc and 216 km (134 mi) east of Prague.

Olomouc Orthodox Church or Church of St. Gorazd is an Orthodox Christian church in the city of Olomouc in Moravia, in the Czech Republic. It was built and consecrated in 1939 and dedicated to St. Gorazd (Slavic enlightener in the 9th century). In 1950 it became a cathedral, because Olomouc is the seat of the Olomouc-Brno eparchy. The church was repaired in 1985–1987. In 1987, the church saw the canonization of Bishop Gorazd of Prague as St. Gorazd II. Bishop Gorazd had been executed by the Nazis in 1942 for hiding the paratroopers who assassinated Reinhard Heydrich.

The Regional Centre of Advanced Technologies and Materials is a scientific and research centre connected to the Faculty of Science, Palacký University, Olomouc. Its chief objective is to produce superlative research and to transfer high-tech products and technologies to medical, industrial and environmental practice with a pronounced emphasis on connecting the Centre to international networks and collaborations. The center was established on 1 October 2010, and since October 2013 is housed in a high-tech new building in Palacky University campus at Šlechtitelů street. The center is mainly engaged in chemical, material and optical research. Priority areas of research include nanoparticles of metal oxides for catalytic, magnetic and biomedical applications, carbon nanostructures based on graphene and quantum dots, metal nanoparticles for antimicrobial treatment and technology of water purification, medical, computer and coordination chemistry, photonics and development of instrumental techniques for applications in optics and analytical chemistry. The center is linked with research institutes Palacky University, supports the creation of new companies focused on sophisticated technology. In 2016 formed the basis for personnel approximately 100 member research team consisting of more than 20 percent of foreign experts. General Director of the Centre is Prof. RNDr. Radek Zboril, Ph.D.

The Bystřice is a river in the Czech Republic, a left tributary of the Morava River. It flows through the Olomouc and Moravian-Silesian regions. It is 56.1 km (34.9 mi) long.

Hradisko Monastery or Monastery Hradisko (Czech language: Klášter Hradisko or Klášterní Hradisko, or simply Hradiště; colloquially also: Moravský Escorial, English: Castle Monastery or Hillfort Monastery) is a former monastery and a former village north-east of the city of Olomouc, nowadays a suburb of Olomouc. Originally a Benedictine monastery, from the mid-12th century a Premonstratensian monastery, located in the historical principality of Moravia and Margraviate of Moravia, now part of present-day Czech Republic. The large complex occupies an area of more than one hectare, since 1995 declared a cultural heritage site and occupies the Olomouc military hospital.

Olomouc Premyslid Castle is one of the most important castle complexes in the Czech Republic. It is located on Wenceslas hill in the historic city of Olomouc.Originally there were two castles in Olomouc called "Old" and "new". The old one was located at the site of Villa Primavesi (street Alley). Olomouc Castle is a National Cultural Monument of Czech Republic since 1962, along with other monuments on the territory of Czechoslovakia by the Government Resolution dated March 30, 1962, no. 251/62, and Regulation of the Government dated 16 August 1995, no. 262/1995.

Saint Wenceslas Cathedral (Czech language: Katedrála svatého Václava) is a gothic cathedral at Wenceslas square in Olomouc, in the Czech Republic, founded in 1107. The square was named after Saint Wenceslaus I, Duke of Bohemia on the thousandth anniversary of his death in 935. The cathedral is also named after him. The Cathedral is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Olomouc.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Olomouc (Czech: Arcidiecéze olomoucká, Latin: Archidioecesis Olomucensis) is the Metropolitan archdiocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in the Czech Republic. It has its seat in Olomouc.

The Department of Musicology is an institute of Palacký University Faculty of Philosophy, which conducts research and provides education in the fields of musicology and fine art. While the Faculty of Philosophy dates back to 1576 and has provided education for a number of art theorists, the separate Department of Musicology was established in 1946. It is sited in the building of University Art Centre (former Jesuit College), together with other two art departments of Faculty of Philosophy and two art departments of Faculty of Education.

Societas eruditorum incognitorum in terris Austriacis (English: The Society of Anonymous Scholars in the Austrian Lands) was the first learned society in the lands under control of Austrian Habsburgs. It was established, formally, in 1746 at the university and episcopal town of Olomouc in order to spread Enlightenment ideas. Its monthly journal, "Monatliche Auszüge" was the first scientific journal in the Habsburg Monarchy.

The Centre for Clinical Legal Education is an institute of Palacký University Faculty of Law, which focuses on practical ways of teaching prospective lawyers. While most of the syllabus in the Faculty's five-year Master program of Law and Jurisprudence comprises the Law in Books (taught at the University since 1679), the Centre focuses on Law in Action. In 1996 Palacký University Faculty of Law was the first law school in Central Europe to introduce legal clinics and today it is still the only law faculty in the Czech Republic that provides its students with a wide ranging clinic-based education. The clinics were swiftly expanded and improved, especially after 2006, thanks to a project for the advancement of practical education, which received financial support from both the Czech national budget and the European Social Fund. At the same time the newly established Centre for Clinical Legal Education took responsibility for running clinics. Today the Centre provides methodical aids for innovation in current school subjects as well as for the implementation of new school subjects in the taught Master's degree in Law, while it also runs the clinics.

The Maria Theresa Armoury (Czech: Tereziánská zbrojnice) is a former artillery arsenal in Olomouc in today's Czech Republic. It was built in 1768–1769 as part of the Olomouc Fortress and named after Maria Theresa. Since 1999, the building has been used as the headquarters of the library of the Palacký University Olomouc.
