Avoriaz

Les Portes du Soleil (literally "The Doors of the Sun") is a major skisports destination in the Alps, encompassing thirteen resorts between Mont Blanc in France and Lake Geneva in Switzerland. With more than 650 km of marked pistes (claimed by the lift companies; an independent expert measured about 426 km ) and about 200 lifts in total, spread over 14 valleys and about 1,036 square kilometres (400 sq mi), Portes du Soleil ranks among the two largest ski areas in the world (the other being Les Trois Vallées). Almost all of the pistes are connected by lifts – a few marginal towns can be reached only by the free bus services in the area. The highest elevation accessible on skis is 2260 m (Pointe de Mossettes) and the lowest is 930 m (Abondance Village). As with many other Alpine ski resorts, the lower slopes of the Portes du Soleil have snow-making facilities to extend the ski season by keeping the lower slopes open during the warmer months. The name Portes du Soleil originates from the 1,950-meter-high pass of the same name, connecting Morgins to Les Crosets.

Col de la Joux Verte (el. 1760 m.) is a high mountain pass in the Alps in France. Both roads to it come from the resort of Morzine, allowing a round trip to be made. The ski station of Morzine-Avoriaz is nearby, which hosted Tour de France stage finishes in 1975, 1977, 1983, 1985, 1979, 1994, and 2010.

The Hauts-Forts (2,466 m) is a mountain of the Chablais Alps, located east of Morzine in the French department of Haute-Savoie, within one kilometre of the Swiss border. The closest locality is Avoriaz, from where a cable car leads to its summit.

The Pointe de Chésery is a mountain in the Chablais Alps on the Swiss-French border.

Le Pas de Chavanette, also known as the "Mur Suisse" or "Swiss Wall", is a particularly steep and difficult piste in the Portes du Soleil ski area, on the border between France and Switzerland. It can be reached from the French resort of Avoriaz and from the Swiss towns of Les Crosets and Champéry. Effectively, one starts the run standing on the Swiss-French border, plunging down the Swiss side of the mountain towards Les Crosets.

The Pointe des Mossettes (2,277 m) is a mountain of the Chablais Alps, overlooking Les Crosets in the Swiss canton of Valais. The French border runs west of the summit on a straight line, although the mountain lies on the main watershed between the Dranse river basin and the Val d'Illiez. The mountain is part of the international ski area Portes du Soleil and its summit can be reached by cable car from Les Crosets or Avoriaz (France).

Lac de Chésery is a lake in the municipality of Monthey, canton of Valais, Switzerland. It is located close to the French border, below the Pointe de Chésery.

Lake Vert is a lake in the Chablais region of the canton of Valais, Switzerland. The lake is located in the municipality of Val-d'Illiez, at an elevation of 1972 metres, near the border with France. Lac de Chésery lies 600 metres north.

The Col de Cou (also spelled Col de Coux) (1,921 m) is a high mountain pass of the Alps, located on the border between Switzerland and France. It connects Champéry in the Swiss canton of Valais to Morzine in the French department of Haute-Savoie. It is the lowest border crossing between the Pas de Morgins and the Dents du Midi.

Lac de Montriond is a lake at Montriond in the Haute-Savoie department of France. It has a surface area of 32 ha. There is a circular path around the lake and several restaurants next to the D228 access road (which connects Montriond to Les Lindarets). In Winter the lake surface frequently freezes over and the immediate area surrounding the lake experiences extremes of cold due to the topology of the surrounding area blocking most sunlight during the coldest months of Winter.

Tête du Géant is a mountain in the Chablais Alps on the Swiss-French border.
