Belstead Brook

Bourne Bridge is an historic bridge in Suffolk, England. It provided the boundary mark between Ipswich and Wherstead. The date at which a bridge replaced the previous ford is unknown, but the bridge was mentioned in 1352/3 in the reign of Edward III.

Cliff Quay Power Station was a coal-fired power station situated to the south of Ipswich, Suffolk in the East of England. The station was designed by Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners and built by the Cleveland Bridge Company.

Bourne Park Reed Beds is a 7.4 hectare Local Nature Reserve on the southern outskirts of Ipswich in Suffolk, United Kingdom. It is owned and managed by Ipswich Borough Council.This nature reserve in Bourne Park is a linear area of reed beds, scrub woodland and tall herb fen, along the north bank of Belstead Brook.

Ipswich engine shed was an engine shed located in Ipswich, Suffolk on the Great Eastern Main Line. It was located just south of Stoke tunnel and the current Ipswich railway station. Locomotives accessed the site from Halifax Junction which was also the junction for the Griffin Wharf branch of Ipswich docks. The depot opened in 1846 and closed in 1968 although the site remained in railway use for a further thirty years. In British Railways days it was allocated the code 32B.

Stoke Tunnel Cutting, Ipswich is a 2.2-hectare (5.4-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Ipswich in Suffolk. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.This fossiliferous site dates to the late Marine Isotope Stage 7, around 190,000 years ago. It is part of a high level terrace of the River Orwell and it has European pond tortoises, lions, mammoths, woolly rhinoceroses, horses and voles.There is no public access to the site.

Wherstead Park Mansion in Suffolk is a house of historical significance and is listed on the English Heritage Register. It was built in 1792 for Sir Robert Harland (1765–1848) by the famous architect Sir Jeffry Wyatville on the site of an older house. It was the residence of many notable people over the next two centuries. It is now a venue for weddings, conferences and special events, but had previously been the headquarters of Eastern Electricity from 1948.

The Maidenhall Estate is a council estate in Ipswich, in the Ipswich district, in the county of Suffolk, England. In 1975 the remains of a mammoth were excavated at Stoke High School, some of the bones of which are on display at Ipswich Museum.

Ipswich Stoke Hill railway station was the northern terminus of the Eastern Union Railway line from Colchester to Ipswich from its opening in June 1846 until 1860 when the present Ipswich station opened at the other end of the Stoke tunnel. It was located in Croft Street, Stoke. Trains from London terminated at the station but from November 1846 when a new line was built by the Ipswich and Bury Railway to Bury St Edmunds trains from Bury used to pass the station, stop at Halifax Junction a short distance to the south and propel back into the terminus usually using the western platform. Trains for Bury would reverse out as far as Halifax Junction before travelling north.The station was designed by Frederick Barnes who also designed a number of other early railway stations and bridges in East Anglia.The EUR and I&BR (who shared many directors, same engineer and secretary) worked as one organisation from January 1847. For more than one hundred and twenty years after the station's closure, the site was in use as railway sidings. These consisted of a carriage and wagon works and Ipswich engine shed. Subsequently the site had its tracks removed and was redeveloped, including Bruff Road, named in honour of Peter Bruff the engineer who brought the railway to Ipswich.

Wherstead is a village and a civil parish located in the county of Suffolk, England. Wherstead village lies 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Ipswich on the Shotley peninsula. It is in the Belstead Brook electoral division of Suffolk County Council.It is an ancient settlement, and from its soil the plough has brought to light many evidences of occupation by Romans and by early Britons. In the Domesday Book of 1086 the place is described under the Old English names Querstede and Wervesteda. Toponymic surnames which originate from Wherstead include Quested and Quersted. The name of the village and parish is in today generally pronounced Wersted or Warsted by the residents, the "a" in the latter case having the sound of "a" in father. Wherstead Park Mansion is a notable historic house which has been converted to a wedding venue. A short ride by train through Ipswich carries passengers to Bourne Bridge, which marks the boundary of Wherstead parish. Near the bridge, on the Wherstead side, stands the Ostrich Inn, as it stood at the time of the New England migration. At that time, oysters were abundant in the River Orwell, and some speculate that Ostrich was a corruption from 'Oyster Ridge' or 'Oyster Reach'. However the pub name is more likely to derive from the crest of lawyer and Chief Justice, Sir Edward Coke, who acquired the surrounding estate in 1609, and the pub sign is similar to others across East Anglia.
