Portsmouth Arms railway station is a small wayside station in Devon. It is in the parish of Burrington but remote from any village so is named after the nearby 'Portsmouth Arms' pub. It is on the Tarka Line to Barnstaple, 29 miles 8 chains (46.8 km) from Exeter Central at milepost 200.5 from London Waterloo.

According to the 2001 census it had a population of 446, compared to 540 in 1901.The church is mostly fifteenth century and has a medieval font. In the 2011 census it was recorded as having a population of 169.The neighbouring parishes are Satterleigh and Warkleigh to the north, King's Nympton to the east, Chulmleigh to the south east, Burrington to the south, and High Bickington in Torridge district to the west. The River Taw forms the southern and western boundary of the parish, and the A377 road from Barnstaple to Exeter skirts the parish on the far side of the river. A combined parish council serves Chittlehamholt and the neighbouring parish as the Chittlehamholt, Satterleigh and Warkleigh Parish Council.There are 26 listed buildings in the parish, all at Grade II. They include two bridges, the church of St John Baptist, a Gospel Hall, Chittlehamholt Manor, the Exeter Inn (a 16th-century coaching inn) and houses and farm buildings.The hamlet of Chittlehamholt was originally a clearing in woods where residents of Chittlehampton collected logs. Until 1875 it was part of Chittlehampton.The parish church of St John the Baptist is part of the South Molton Mission Community within the Diocese of Exeter.

Eaglescott Airfield (ICAO: EGHU) is located in Burrington, 6 nautical miles (11 km; 6.9 mi) east southeast of Great Torrington, in Devon, England. It is also the northern operating base of the Devon Air Ambulance. Eaglescott Aerodrome had a CAA Ordinary Licence (Number P742) that allowed flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction as authorised by the licensee (Devon Airsports Limited). The aerodrome is not licensed for night use.

Satterleigh and Warkleigh is a civil parish in North Devon district, Devon, England. In the 2011 census it was recorded as having a population of 170.

King's Nympton (Latinised to Nymet Regis) is a village, parish and former manor in the North Devon district, in Devon, England, in the heart of the rolling countryside between Exmoor and Dartmoor, some 4½ miles (7 km) S.S.W. of South Molton and 4 miles (6 km) N. of Chulmleigh. The parish exceeds 5,500 acres (2,226 ha) in area and sits mostly on a promontory above the River Mole (anciently the Nymet) which forms nearly half of its parish boundary. In 2021 the parish had a population of 444. Many of the outlying farmhouses date from the 15th and 16th centuries and the village has cottages and a pub, with thatched roofs. Nearly all of its 5,540 acres are given over to agriculture with beef, sheep, dairy, arable and egg production forming the bulk of farming activity.

Brightley was historically the principal secondary estate within the parish and former manor of Chittlehampton in the county of Devon, England, situated about 2 1/4 miles south-west of the church and on a hillside above the River Taw. From the early 16th century to 1715 it was the seat of the Giffard family, whose mansion house occupied the moated site immediately to the west of the present large farmhouse known as Brightley Barton, a Grade II listed building which incorporates some elements of the earlier house. It is not to be confused with the 12th-century Brightley Priory near Okehampton.

St Peter's Church in Satterleigh, Devon, England was built in the 15th century. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is now a redundant church in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It was vested in the Trust on 19 March 1996.The church is mainly 15th century, although it may incorporate parts of an earlier building. It has an aisleless nave, and a wooden bell-cote. The chancel was rebuilt in 1852 as part of a wider restoration.

High Bickington is a rural village and civil parish in the Torridge district of Devon, England. The village lies on the B3217 road, around 6 miles (10 km) east of Great Torrington, 8 miles (13 km) south-west of South Molton, and 8 miles (13 km) south of Barnstaple. At the 2011 Census, the parish had a population of 837.The village is on a slight ridge near the valley of the River Taw, at an elevation of around 160 metres (520 ft), among largely cultivated hills and woods. The ridge has unbroken views across the valley towards Exmoor.High Bickington is one of four settlements in Devon with "Bickington" in its name: the others are the village of Bickington near Newton Abbot, the hamlet of Bickington west of Barnstaple, and Abbots Bickington near Holsworthy.

Royal Air Force Winkleigh, or more simply RAF Winkleigh, is a former Royal Air Force satellite station located near to Winkleigh, Devon and south of Barnstaple, Devon, England. Hudscott is a historic estate within the parish and former manor of Chittlehampton, Devon. From 1700 it became a seat of a junior branch of the influential Rolle family of Heanton Satchville, Petrockstowe and in 1779 became a secondary seat of the senior Rolle family of Stevenstone, then the largest landowner in Devon. Hudscott House, classified in 1967 a Grade II* listed building, is situated one mile south-east of the village of Chittlehampton. It was largely rebuilt in the 17th century by the Lovering family and in the late 17th century became a refuge for ejected Presbyterial ministers. In 1737 its then occupant Samuel II Rolle (1703-1747) purchased the manor of Chittlehampton and thus Hudscott House became in effect the manor house of Chittlehampton.

Umberleigh is a former large manor within the historic hundred of (North) Tawton, but today a small village in North Devon in England. It used to be an ecclesiastical parish, but following the building of the church at Atherington it became a part of that parish. It forms however a part of the civil parish of Chittlehampton, which is mostly located on the east side of the River Taw. The manor of Umberleigh, which had its own entry in the Domesday Book of 1086, was entirely situated on the west side of the River Taw and was centred on the Nunnery which was given by William the Conqueror to the Holy Trinity Abbey in Caen, Normandy. The site was later occupied by the manor house of Umberleigh, the present Georgian manifestation of which, a large and grand farmhouse, is known as "Umberleigh House". Next to the manor house in about 1275 was founded Umberleigh Chapel, now a ruin the single remaining wall of which forms the back wall of a farm implements shed.
