Livermore (formerly Livermorès, Livermore Ranch, and Nottingham) is a city in Alameda County, California. With a 2020 population of 87,955, Livermore is the most populous city in the Tri-Valley, giving its name to the Livermore Valley. It is located on the eastern edge of California's San Francisco Bay Area, making it the easternmost city in the area. The current mayor is John Marchand.Livermore was platted and registered on November 4, 1869, as a railroad town by William Mendenhall and named for Robert Livermore, Mendenhall's friend and a local rancher who settled in the area in the 1840s. It is the home of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, for which the chemical element livermorium is named (and thus, placing the city's name in the periodic table). It is also the California site of Sandia National Laboratories, which is headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Its south side is home to local vineyards, and its downtown district is being redeveloped.The United States Census Bureau defines an urban area of Tri-Valley-area cities, with Livermore as the principal city: the Livermore–Pleasanton–Dublin, CA urban area had a 2020 population of 240,381, making it the 167th largest in the United States.

The Carnegie Library at Livermore, California, opened in 1911 and continued in use as a library until 1966. It now hosts a historical museum and art gallery. The building was designed by William H. Weeks in the Greek Revival style and is included on the National Register of Historic Places. A weekly farmers' market takes place in the surrounding park.

Donut Wheel is a doughnut shop. It was established in 1962, and is a landmark in Livermore, California. It is located at the intersection of the city's four quadrants. The Donut Wheel (then "Jack's Donut Wheel") was started in 1962 by Jack and Jean Weil. The Donut Wheel got its name from a suggestion from a man who worked with Jack at Stemple's. He said that he should call it the Donut Wheel because that is how people pronounced his name, “wheel” instead of Weil (pronounced, "while"). Jack and Jean sold Jack's Donut Wheel in 1972. Since then it has changed hands a few times, but kept the name.The building was erected in 1941, as a Purity grocery store. It was remodeled in 1958 by Hans Joachim Schiller, and is an example of Googie architecture. Hans Joachim Schiller was a German architect who fled Nazi Germany to Palestine and then established himself in Marin County after World War II. Before the grocery store, the site was occupied by an 1800s building called the Washington Hotel.

The Mocho Subbasin is the largest of the groundwater subbasins in the watershed of the Livermore Valley in Northern California. This subbasin is bounded to the west by the Livermore Fault Zone and to the east by the Tesla Fault. Some groundwater flow occurs across these fault boundaries, but flows are discontinuous below a depth of fifty feet across the Tesla Fault and south of the Arroyo Mocho channel across the Livermore Fault. Surface watercourses in this unit include Arroyo Valle and Arroyo Seco.

Laddville (or "Laddsville") is a former settlement in the western Livermore Valley of Alameda County, California. It was located east of the settlement which eventually became Livermore.

Founded in 1891, Livermore Union High School is a public high school located in the city of Livermore, California, United States. It is part of the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District. In 2007, it was chosen as one in four schools in Alameda County to receive the California Distinguished School award.

The East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) is a high school sports league in the North Coast Section of the California Interscholastic Federation. The league was created in 1964; previously teams competed in the "East Bay Division" (EBD) of the Diablo Valley Athletic League (DVAL). Its member institutions are located in the eastern region of the San Francisco Bay Area, in the cities of Concord, Danville, San Ramon, Dublin, Pleasanton, and Livermore. In the fall of 2016 the E.B.A.L. expanded to a 10 team league (De La Salle competing in boys sports & Carondelet in girls sports) by adding Dublin High School, and Dougherty Valley High School. De La Salle stopped competing in EBAL Football in 2012-13 and competed as an Independent school in football. In 2018, De La Salle was re-admitted back into the EBAL Football League and now competes again for the league title. Also in 2018, the EBAL split its Football League into two "Divisions"; the Mountain Division (consisting of California, De La Salle, Foothill, San Ramon and Monte Vista) and the "Valley Division" (consisting of Amador Valley, Dougherty Valley, Dublin, Granada and Livermore). In 2020, Foothill moved to the Valley Division and in 2021, Amador Valley moved to the Mountain Division. In the fall of 2019 the E.B.A.L. expanded to a 11 team league by adding Clayton Valley High School to the league, competing in the Mountain Division in football. The league has twelve affiliated schools. Rancho Las Positas was a 8,880-acre (35.9 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day Alameda County, California given in 1839 by governor Juan Alvarado to Robert Livermore and José Noriega. Las Positas means "little watering holes" in Spanish. The rancho included the present-day city of Livermore.

Livermore Sanitarium was a private sanitarium and psychiatric hospital, located in Livermore, California, in operation from 1894 until 1965. The facility specialized the treatment and research of alcoholism and mental disorders. During this time period the Livermore Valley was considered an ideal climate for optimizing one's health.

Granada High School is a public high school located at 400 Wall Street in Livermore, California, United States. It is part of the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District. Granada was established as the town's second public high school in response to significant population growth in the 1960s. Livermore High School was the first high school in Livermore, and rivals Granada. The name Granada is a Spanish word meaning "pomegranate". The school's official newspaper is called The Pomegranate, which is published monthly. The school mascot is a matador.

Trevarno, California is a section of Livermore, Alameda County, California, built by a Cornish company, based at Trevarno, near Helston, manufacturing safety fuses. It is between First Street and the railroad and lies at an elevation of 535 feet (163 m). Trevarno is Cornish and means "farm/settlement of Varno." For more information, see Cornish surnames. Officials of Coast Manufacturing and Supply Company in Livermore named the area after George Bickford's home in Cornwall. The company made safety fuses invented by William Bickford, George's father.
