Pratt Fine Arts Center is a non-profit arts education and resource center in the Squire Park area of Seattle's Central District. The center employs 155 teaching artists and conducts more than 600 classes annually. Pratt was founded in 1976 by the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation and named in honor of slain civil rights leader Edwin T. Pratt. In 1982 it was turned over to a newly created 501(c)(3) non-profit, City Art Works. Since then, Pratt has grown into a nearly $3 million annual budget. With an average class size of 6.5 students, the school had 4,335 total class registrations in 2019. Pratt includes facilities for glassblowing, lampworking, glass beadmaking, flameworked glass, metal sculpture, bronze casting, stone carving, jewelry and metalsmithing, woodworking, printmaking, painting and drawing. The Center has 14 studios across three buildings: the main building in Pratt Park (also named after Edwin Pratt) and two additional buildings in the block immediately south of the park. The latter two were originally part of the adjacent now empty Wonder Bread bakery. Programs include adult and youth education (including free Saturday programs for youth), master artist intensives and visiting artist programs, and studio access programs for working artists. In 2019, Pratt served 960 youth and teens through education programs and granted 139 new independent artists access to its studios.

Squire Park is a neighborhood in the city of Seattle, in the U.S. state of Washington. According to the Squire Park Community Council, it is bounded on the south by S. Jackson Street, on the west by 12th Avenue and 12th Avenue S., on the north by E. Union Street, and on the east by 23rd Avenue and 23rd Avenue S., placing it within the Central District. Its main thoroughfares are E. Jefferson and Cherry Streets and E. Yesler Way (east- and west-bound) and 14th Avenue (north- and south-bound). Swedish Medical Center's Cherry Hill campus is located here, Seattle University, a Jesuit University has part of its campus in Squire Park, as the Admissions, some dormitories and Athletics departments are east of 12th Avenue. Squire Park overlaps considerably with Cherry Hill, Seattle, although Squire Park boundaries are shifted slightly southwards, with the northern boundary at E. Union Street rather than E. Madison Street, and the southern boundary at S. Jackson Street rather than Yesler Way. Squire Park is named after Watson Squire, who was a Washington territory governor, Washington state's first US Senator, and owner of much of the original neighborhood land in a parcel bounded by 12th and 20th Avenues and Cherry and Alder Streets. This parcel was platted by Squire in 1890 and acquired by the city of Seattle in 1891.

Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute (LHPAI) is a cultural, community, and artistic center in the Central District of Seattle, Washington, USA. It was founded in 1969 and named after the writer and leader of the Harlem Renaissance, Langston Hughes. The building, located at 104 17th Avenue South, was built as a synagogue in 1915 and is designated as a Seattle landmark.The institute has previously been known as Yesler-Atlantic Community Center, the Langston Hughes Cultural Center, The Langston Hughes Cultural Arts Center, and the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center.

The Seattle Vocational Institute is a constituent institution of Seattle Central College, a public community college in Seattle, Washington. It was founded as the Washington Institute of Applied Technology in 1987 and took its present name in 1991. It is located in the Central District.

Ezell's Famous Chicken is a Seattle fast food restaurant. The first restaurant was opened on February 3, 1984, in Seattle's Central District neighborhood, near Garfield High School. The restaurant chain has 12 other locations in the Puget Sound region, including a location on the Microsoft campus in Redmond that opened in 2006. In 2015, the chain opened its Spokane location, its first restaurant outside of Western Washington. The first international location for Ezell's opened in June 2015, in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. The Sharjah location has since closed. Ezell's was made famous when talk show host Oprah Winfrey called it her favorite fried chicken. It is also said she has the chicken flown to her in Chicago when she has a craving.

Soul Pole is a totem pole installed outside Seattle's Douglass-Truth Branch Library, in the U.S. state of Washington.

The Douglass-Truth Branch is a library building and Seattle Public Library branch in Seattle, Washington, United States. Named after Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth, the library houses the West Coast's largest collection of African-American literature and history.Soul Pole was donated to the library by the Rotary Boys Club in 1972, and was restored in 2021 before reinstallation in 2022.

James A. Garfield High School is a public high school in the Seattle Public Schools district of Seattle, Washington, United States. It is named after James A. Garfield, the 20th President of the United States. Located along 23rd Avenue between E. Alder and E. Jefferson Streets in Seattle's urban Central District, Garfield draws students from all over the city. Garfield is also one of two options for the district's Highly Capable Cohort for academically highly gifted students, with the other being Ingraham International School. As a result, the school offers many college-level classes, ranging from calculus-based physics to Advanced Placement (AP) studio art.

Cherry Hill is a predominantly residential area in Seattle, Washington located south of Capitol Hill within the Central District, north of the International District, and east of First Hill. Cherry Hill is bound on the west by 14th Avenue, on the east by 23rd Avenue, on the north by East Madison Street and on the south by East Yesler Way. Cherry Hill overlaps considerably with the neighborhood of Squire Park as defined by the Squire Park Neighborhood Council. In the Seattle City Clerk's Geographic Indexing Atlas, Cherry Hill is designated as the Minor neighborhood of the Central Area. Cherry Hill was previously called Second Hill or Renton Hill.

Fire Station No. 23 is a former fire station located in the Central District of Seattle, Washington listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was remodelled as the Cherry Hill Community Center in 1970, and served as the headquarters of Centerstone (formerly the Central Area Motivational Program, or CAMP).

Jackson's Catfish Corner (originally Catfish Corner) is a family-owned Southern restaurant in Seattle's Central District, in the U.S. state of Washington. Woodrow (Woody) and Rosemary (Rosie) Jackson opened Catfish Corner in the Central District in 1985. After selling the business to friends in 2009, the restaurant closed in 2014. The Jacksons' grandson Terrell and his wife Rachel reopened and rebranded the restaurant in 2015. Jackson's Catfish corner had a brick and mortar in Rainier Valley, before relocating and operating in the Central District again from 2016 to 2018. Jackson's Catfish Corner reopened at 23rd and South Jackson Street in 2021. The Black-owned business has a catfish-dominant menu which has included gumbo, hushpuppies, prawns, and other seafood and soul food options such as fish and chips, coleslaw, collard greens, sweet potatoes, and rice and beans. Jackson's Catfish Corner has garnered a positive reception.

Seattle Fish Guys is a fish market and restaurant in Seattle's Central District, in the U.S. state of Washington. Desiree Chinn and Sal Panelo started the business in 2016. Seattle Fish Guys has garnered a positive reception, especially for its poke, and is considered among the city''s best seafood establishments.
