Lackawanna Coal Mine is a museum and retired coal mine that is located in McDade Park in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It opened in 1903.

WUSR, also known as 99.5 WUSR Scranton Royal Radio, is a college radio station broadcasting at 99.5 MHz FM in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It is owned and operated by the University of Scranton.

McDade Park is a community park located in Scranton in Lackawanna County, in northeastern Pennsylvania. It is named after former U.S. Representative Joseph M. McDade. The park is located on 200 acres (0.81 km2) of land, containing an outdoor pool, a fishing pond as well as a more isolated pond, basketball courts, hiking trails, tennis courts and two picnic pavilions. The park also contains an arboretum and numerous natural gardens. In addition, the park has a children's playground area, a creek, two baseball fields and numerous hills which are ideal for sledding during northeastern Pennsylvania's winter season. The park has free admission for all activities.

WGGY (101.3 MHz, "Froggy 101") is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Scranton, Pennsylvania, and serves the Wilkes-Barre-Scranton radio market. It broadcasts a country radio format and is owned by Audacy, Inc. The studios are on Pennsylvania Route 315 in Pittston. WGGY is a Class B station. It has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 7,000 watts. The transmitter tower is on Beacon Drive in Clark's Summit, off Interstate 476. WGGY broadcasts using HD Radio technology. To improve its signal, WGGY is heard on three booster stations on 101.3 MHz around Northeast Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum preserves the heritage of anthracite coal mining in the U.S. State of Pennsylvania and is located in McDade Park in Scranton. It features exhibits detailing the industrial history of northeastern Pennsylvania.

Bald Mountain is a prominent peak in Northeastern Pennsylvania which stands above the Wilkes-Barre and Scranton area (also known as the Wyoming Valley). On the summit is an outcrop of Catskill conglomerate (Devonian age) known as the "Pinnacle Rock". From the summit you may view the northernmost extension of the geologic province known as the Glaciated Low Plateaus section. The mountain itself is in the Ridge and Valley Appalachians. It is a great place for photography. To access the summit you can take the Pinnacle Rock trail. The trailhead is on the west side of the mountain and is a nine hundred foot vertical gain.

Lindy Creek is a tributary of Keyser Creek in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is approximately 2.3 miles (3.7 km) long and flows through Ransom Township and Scranton. The watershed of the creek has an area of 1.53 square miles (4.0 km2). The creek is considered to be a Coldwater Fishery. Some reaches of it have been channelized for flood control purposes and it also flows through several pipes. Its gradient is considerably higher in its upper reaches than in its lower reaches. Land uses in the creek's watershed include forests and low-intensity development.

Lucky Run (also known as Lucky Run Creek) is a tributary of Keyser Creek in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is approximately 2.4 miles (3.9 km) long and flows through Ransom Township and Scranton. The watershed of the creek has an area of 1.66 square miles (4.3 km2). It is considered to be a Coldwater Fishery and contains trout. However, it loses flow to underground mine pools. Land uses in its watershed include forests, open space, and industrial land. A county park known as McDade Park is in the stream's vicinity.

Taylor is a borough in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States, 3 miles (5 km) southwest of Scranton on the Lackawanna River. It was founded in 1790 by Cornelius Atherton. Silk manufacturing and coal mining were once practiced in the borough. Most of Taylor is built over abandoned mines. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension (I-476), accessible via the Keyser Avenue Interchange, passes through Taylor, going north to Clarks Summit and south to Philadelphia. The population of Taylor at the 2020 census was 6,302.

West Scranton High School, is a community-based school in the west side neighborhood of Scranton, Pennsylvania. It is one of the oldest schools in the area, having opened to the public in 1935, first as a junior high facility and later as a high school. It offers about 32 clubs and 17 sports, and hosts grades 9 through 12. Renée Stevens is the school's current principal. The school colors are royal blue and white and the mascot is the Invader. It is a public school enrolling approximately 1,000 students, with an average of about 250 students in each grade.

South Branch Leach Creek is a tributary of Leach Creek in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is approximately 0.8 miles (1.3 km) long and flows through Scranton. The watershed of the creek has an area of 0.463 square miles (1.20 km2). A substantial portion of the watershed is situated within coal measures. The creek also experiences seepage into mine workings via both surface seepage and streambed seepage.
