Browns Island (also Gwin Island or Brown Island) is a regional preserve of the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) in Pittsburg, Contra Costa County, California, United States. It is an island in Suisun Bay, part of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, separated from the rest of Pittsburg by New York Slough. The 595-acre (241 ha) island is separated from Winter Island to the east by Middle Slough, and bounded by New York Slough on the south and Suisun Bay on the west and northwest. It is shown, labeled "Gwin Island", on an 1850 survey map of the San Francisco Bay area made by Cadwalader Ringgold and an 1854 map of the area by Henry Lange.The East Bay Regional Park District has published a guide to the wild plants that grow on this island. The island is home to six rare and endangered plant species, and a variety of aquatic birds.

Cornwall, formerly known as Cornwall Station, was an unincorporated community in Contra Costa County, California, before it was absorbed into the City of Pittsburg. It was located 7.25 miles (11.67 km) east-southeast of Baypoint and 1 mile (1.6 km) south of downtown Pittsburg, at an elevation of 39 feet (12 m) ASL.The area appears to have been named after Pierre Barlow Cornwall, an early California pioneer and president of the Black Diamond Coal Mining Company at nearby Nortonville, California from 1872 to 1904. Cornwall sprung up at the intersection of two railroads, the Black Diamond Coal Mining Railroad and the San Pablo and Tulare Railroad (the latter became part of the Southern Pacific system in 1888). The coal railroad crossed the San Pablo and Tulare line using an overhead trestle.A post office operated at Cornwall Station from 1881 to 1888. Cornwall post office operated from 1890 to 1911.The Cornwall area, together with the nearby town of Black Diamond, was officially renamed "Pittsburg" on February 11, 1911, which may explain why the Cornwall Post Office stopped operations in that same year.

Los Medanos College (LMC) is a public community college in Pittsburg, California. Established in 1974, LMC has an extension in Brentwood and is part of the Contra Costa Community College District.

Winter Island (also known as Ruckels Island) is a 453-acre (183 ha) island in Suisun Bay, in the western Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. It is north of Pittsburg, separated from Browns Island to the west by a slough. It was private property, and contained one house. It is used as a duck hunting area, a wetland, and a dredging disposal area. In 2016 Winter Island was purchased by the California Department of Water Resources in order to restore the island as a tidal marsh. Winter Island is part of Contra Costa County, and managed by Reclamation District 2122. It is shown, labeled "Ruckels Island", on an 1850 survey map of the San Francisco Bay area made by Cadwalader Ringgold and an 1854 map of the area by Henry Lange.In 2009, Brusco Tug and Barge, a tugboat company, pled guilty to illegal dredge dumping near the island between 2003 and 2007. In 2014, a large wildfire broke out on the island.

It is an industrial suburb located on the southern shore of the Suisun Bay in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, and is part of the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta area, the Eastern Contra Costa County area, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The population was 76,416 at the 2020 United States Census.

Pittsburg High School in Pittsburg, Contra Costa County, California, United States, is a suburban school serving Pittsburg. It has been in operation since 1924. Over 3,000 students attend the school. It is a part of the Pittsburg Unified School District. Pittsburg High School teaches grades 9–12.

Pittsburg Marina is a marina situated at the confluence of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers in Pittsburg, California.The Marina is owned and operated by the City of Pittsburg, and serves as the "Gateway to the Delta", providing access to the San Francisco Bay. The Marina, located north of downtown Pittsburg, offers 575 berths, 274 of which are covered.Surrounded by extensive marshes, Browns Island is located across New York Slough from the Marina.

Pittsburg Center station is a Bay Area Rapid Transit station on the Yellow Line. It is located at the Railroad Avenue overpass of Highway 4 in Pittsburg, California and serves the downtown area of about one mile (1.6 km) away via connecting buses provided by Tri Delta Transit. There is no reserved parking available at this station.

Camp Stoneman was a United States Army facility located in Pittsburg, California. It served as a major troop staging area for and under the command of the San Francisco Port of Embarkation (SFPOE). The camp operated during World War II and the Korean War. The camp opened May 28, 1942 as a staging point for units deploying to the Pacific Ocean theater of World War II. The camp was named after George Stoneman, a cavalry commander during the American Civil War and Governor of California. It was decommissioned as a military post in 1954. The camp had a railroad track across the north side for receiving and shipping men. Late in the war the SFPOE experimented with embarking troops directly aboard a Liberty ship at the camp but that was not successful due to difficulties of large ship navigation to the camp. Next to the track, there were many buildings with loading docks, many of which were still there in 2017 along Bliss Avenue. There were seven barracks areas, each consisting of nine blocks (3 x 3) surrounding a mess hall. In addition to being a staging area for troops in transit, the Pacific Coast Transportation Corps Officer Training School was located at the camp. The camp also housed prisoners of war with the Italian Service Unit of the 18th Italian Quartermaster Service Company, which was based at the camp.

Suzanne Arlene "Suzie" Bombardier, (March 14, 1966 – June 22, 1980) was kidnapped, raped, and stabbed to death on June 22, 1980. On June 27, her body was found by a fisherman, floating in the San Joaquin River east of Antioch, California near its bridge, 60 miles (97 km) east of San Francisco. On December 11, 2017, after extensive DNA profiling, 63-year-old Mitchell Lynn Bacom, a convicted sex offender, was arrested as the prime suspect. He was charged with and convicted of kidnapping, rape, oral copulation, murder, and murder with use of a deadly weapon. This was Antioch's oldest cold case murder. At the time of Bombardier's homicide, Bacom was known to her family. Bombardier was raped, stabbed in the chest, and her heart was punctured. She was kidnapped from her sister's townhome in Antioch while she was babysitting her nieces. Her sister, Stephanie Mullen, arrived home at 4:00 a.m. to find Bombardier missing. Bombardier's father, Ted, said that she knew her killer, as there was no forced entry.

Somersville Towne Center is a regional shopping mall located in Antioch, California. Previously named County East Mall until 2004, the 501,259 square feet (46,570 m2) mall is managed by Urban Retail Properties. Originally opened in 1966, it is strategically positioned in one of the fastest growing areas of the San Francisco Bay Area, east Contra Costa County. Along with high population growth, east Contra Costa County is also experiencing sizable household income increases.Somersville Towne Center is the only enclosed regional shopping mall in east Contra Costa County and also the first such mall in the southeast portion of Antioch. The next closest shopping center of similar size and scale is The Streets of Brentwood open-air shopping center in nearby Brentwood, which opened in 2008. The mall is anchored by 24 Hour Fitness and Smart & Final.
