Suzanne Arlene "Suzie" Bombardier, (March 14, 1966 – June 22, 1980) was kidnapped, raped, and stabbed to death on June 22, 1980. On June 27, her body was found by a fisherman, floating in the San Joaquin River east of Antioch, California near its bridge, 60 miles (97 km) east of San Francisco. On December 11, 2017, after extensive DNA profiling, 63-year-old Mitchell Lynn Bacom, a convicted sex offender, was arrested as the prime suspect. He was charged with and convicted of kidnapping, rape, oral copulation, murder, and murder with use of a deadly weapon. This was Antioch's oldest cold case murder. At the time of Bombardier's homicide, Bacom was known to her family. Bombardier was raped, stabbed in the chest, and her heart was punctured. She was kidnapped from her sister's townhome in Antioch while she was babysitting her nieces. Her sister, Stephanie Mullen, arrived home at 4:00 a.m. to find Bombardier missing. Bombardier's father, Ted, said that she knew her killer, as there was no forced entry.

Los Medanos College (LMC) is a public community college in Pittsburg, California. Established in 1974, LMC has an extension in Brentwood and is part of the Contra Costa Community College District.

The Riverview Union High School was the first high school built in Contra Costa County. Located at 1500 W First Street in Antioch, California. Charles Appleton Hooper donated the land to end a dispute between Antioch and Pittsburg over land that was used for the school. The school opened November 4, 1911. Students from as far away as Oakley and Pittsburg attended this high school. The last class that graduated from the high school was in 1931. A new high school replaced this one located on D Street in Antioch. The building was then occupied by the Bureau of Reclamation during the design and construction of the Central Valley Project. In 1947, the Fibreboard Corporation bought the building for its research. The riverview Fire Protection District acquired the building in 1965 for its headquarters, until leaving it unused in 1994. The Antioch Historical Society bought the property in 1999, and they now use it as their main headquarters.

Antioch High School is a public high school located in Antioch, California, United States. It is located at 700 West 18th Street between G and L streets. It is a comprehensive high school for grades 9-12. There are about 120 teachers, and 20 maintenance and office staff. The administration consists of a principal and four vice principals. Departments at the school include English; mathematics; physical, earth, and life sciences; social studies; physical education; vocal and instrumental music; video, photographic, sculpted, painted and drawn arts; foreign languages; health and sports medicine; auto and wood shop; and engineering.

Antioch–Pittsburg station is an unstaffed Amtrak station in Antioch, California and is the closest station to Pittsburg, California, which is located about two miles (3.2 km) west. It is served by San Joaquins trains operating on the branch between Oakland and Bakersfield. The station opened on October 28, 1984, and has a single side platform serving the single track of the BNSF Railway's Stockton Subdivision. It is expected to close in 2024.

The Roswell Butler Hard House is a house located at 815 W. First St. in Antioch, California. Roswell Butler Hard, a prominent early resident of Antioch, built the house in 1869. Hard was the first chairman of the Antioch town council, which originally met in his house; he also served as county sheriff and supervisor. The two-story Italianate house was built entirely from brick made in the city. It was split into smaller housing units after Hart's death; in 1979, the city of Antioch took ownership of the building, and it has fallen into disuse since.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 30, 1993.

Kimball Island (formerly known as Hammond Island) is a small island in the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta. It is located in Sacramento County, California, in the United States. Since its discovery, it has been used to grow barley, farm fish, cultivate cannabis, and as residential land. Currently, however, it is uninhabited; since 2000, it has been left to "forever be a wetland habitat", and is sometimes used as a fishing spot.

Antioch is the third-largest city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The city is located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area along the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta. The city's population was 115,291 at the 2020 census. The city has grown substantially more diverse since the 1970s.

Cornwall, formerly known as Cornwall Station, was an unincorporated community in Contra Costa County, California, before it was absorbed into the City of Pittsburg. It was located 7.25 miles (11.67 km) east-southeast of Baypoint and 1 mile (1.6 km) south of downtown Pittsburg, at an elevation of 39 feet (12 m) ASL.The area appears to have been named after Pierre Barlow Cornwall, an early California pioneer and president of the Black Diamond Coal Mining Company at nearby Nortonville, California from 1872 to 1904. Cornwall sprung up at the intersection of two railroads, the Black Diamond Coal Mining Railroad and the San Pablo and Tulare Railroad (the latter became part of the Southern Pacific system in 1888). The coal railroad crossed the San Pablo and Tulare line using an overhead trestle.A post office operated at Cornwall Station from 1881 to 1888. Cornwall post office operated from 1890 to 1911.The Cornwall area, together with the nearby town of Black Diamond, was officially renamed "Pittsburg" on February 11, 1911, which may explain why the Cornwall Post Office stopped operations in that same year.

The Solano was a large railroad ferry, built as a reinforced paddle steamer with independently powered sidewheels by the Central Pacific Railroad, that carried entire trains across the Carquinez Strait between Benicia and Port Costa in California daily for 51 years, from 1879 to 1930. When launched, the Solano was the largest ferry of its kind in the world, a record held for 35 years until 1914 when she was joined by her sister ship, the Contra Costa, which was 13 feet (4.0 m) longer.

Winter Island (also known as Ruckels Island) is a 453-acre (183 ha) island in Suisun Bay, in the western Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. It is north of Pittsburg, separated from Browns Island to the west by a slough. It was private property, and contained one house. It is used as a duck hunting area, a wetland, and a dredging disposal area. In 2016 Winter Island was purchased by the California Department of Water Resources in order to restore the island as a tidal marsh. Winter Island is part of Contra Costa County, and managed by Reclamation District 2122. It is shown, labeled "Ruckels Island", on an 1850 survey map of the San Francisco Bay area made by Cadwalader Ringgold and an 1854 map of the area by Henry Lange.In 2009, Brusco Tug and Barge, a tugboat company, pled guilty to illegal dredge dumping near the island between 2003 and 2007. In 2014, a large wildfire broke out on the island.
