Mountain Island Lake

Latta Place (formerly Latta Plantation), also known as Latta House, is a historic house located in Huntersville, North Carolina near Mountain Island Lake. Built in about 1800 in a Federal style, the plantation also contains some elements of Georgian design, including the house's main staircase.The house and its environs are currently used as a living history exhibit and museum dedicated to exhibiting the facets of daily life in the antebellum North Carolina Piedmont. Historic Latta Plantation hosts a variety of living history events throughout the year, including battle reenactments, summer camps, and homeschool programs. The site was formerly operated by a nonprofit corporation, but the land is owned by Mecklenburg County, and maintained by the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation department. The property also houses the Ezekiel Alexander Log Home, a log building built between 1760 and 1790, that formerly sat in nearby Charlotte.In 2021 the Plantation was temporarily closed and an event cancelled after a controversial description of an upcoming Juneteenth event was posted online. The post was condemned by the county, town of Huntersville, and the mayor of nearby Charlotte. The post, which referred to "the massa himself" and "white refugees" that would appear in the event, was defended by the site manager Ian Campbell who is black.Mecklenburg County staff are currently working to renovate the site before reopening it. The site's new mission and vision communicates a commitment to "Truth, Transparency, Compassion, Transformation and Unity."It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Holly Bend, also known as Hollywood, is a historic plantation house located near Huntersville, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It was built between 1795 and 1800, and is a two-story, five bay by two bay, frame dwelling with Federal style design elements. It has gable roof, brick exterior end chimneys, and a one-story, full-width, hip roof porch.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Hopewell High School is located in the northern part of Mecklenburg County, serving the western portion of Huntersville, and also serving some of the Northwest Charlotte area. The school was founded in 2001. The school's main rival is William A. Hough High School. Hopewell's athletic teams are nicknamed the Titans.

The Riverbend Steam Station was a former 454-MW coal-fired electrical power plant in Gaston County, North Carolina, owned by Duke Energy. It was originally slated for decommissioning in 2015, but was closed in April 2013. The four-unit station was named for a bend in the Catawba River on which it was located. Riverbend was considered a cycling station to be brought on line to supplement supply when electricity demand was highest. Four gas-fired combustion turbine units were also housed on the site, but were retired in October 2012. The last recognizable section of the structure and its boiler were demolished on 22 June 2018. Duke Energy claimed that coal ash basins from Riverbend Steam Station were fully excavated in March 2019.

Samuel J. McElroy House is a historic home located near Huntersville, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It was built about 1885, and is a two-story, T-shaped vernacular Victorian style frame farmhouse. It has gable roof and features a porch with original decorative woodwork. It has a one-story rear kitchen wing and a smokehouse. Also on the property is a contributing tack house (c. 1885).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

Edward M. Rozzell House is a historic home located near Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It was built about 1880, and is a two-story, three-bay, frame I-house with a kitchen ell. It has a side-gable roof and stucco covered brick end chimneys. Also on the property are the contributing corn crib (c. 1900) and single-pen log barn (c. 1880).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Hopewell Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church complex and national historic district located near Huntersville, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The church was built in 1833–1835, renovated and enlarged in 1859–1860, and expanded by a Sunday School addition in 1928. It is a U-shaped brick and brick veneer building composed of three connected blocks all covered with front-gable roofs. The church is a rectangular gable-front brick building standing on a low mortared fieldstone foundation and Greek Revival style design elements. Also on the property are the contributing pumphouse (c. 1925), cemetery gate (1845), and cemetery with burials dating to 1775. The cemetery contains one of the two largest collections of box and chest tombs in North Carolina. General William Lee Davidson of the North Carolina militia, killed in 1781 at the Battle of Cowan's Ford during the American Revolutionary War, is buried in the cemetery.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

It was built about 1865, and is a two-story, three-bay, I-house with a one-story rear ell. It has side gable roof, exterior brick end chimneys, and a full-width hip roofed porch.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Dr. Walter Pharr Craven House is a historic home located near Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The house was built about 1888, and is a two-story, vernacular Victorian style frame dwelling. It is associated with a small farm that supported the family of a country doctor. Also on the property are the contributing frame well canopy (1929), family Catholic chapel (c. 1910), central passage barn (c. 1920), log corn crib (c. 1888), tool shed (c. 1920), and auto-garage (c. 1920).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

Cedar Grove Plantation is a historic house located in Huntersville, North Carolina. It was the home of James G. Torrance, a planter living in central Mecklenburg County. It is currently privately owned, and is closed to the public. The plantation was named for its location in the midst of a grove of Cedar trees.

It has gable roof and features high stepped brick end parapets that incorporate chimneys. The front and rear facades have one-story, three bay porches supported by stuccoed brick Doric order columns.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
