Sarratt

The Manor House (formerly known as Pingelsgate) is a country house in Chipperfield, Hertfordshire, England. It dates from the late medieval period. It has been listed Grade II* on the National Heritage List for England since December 1986.It has its origins in a late medieval hall house possibly dating from the early 16th century. It has been speculated that it was rebuilt for a clerk, Thomas Gulston, prior to the 1590s. It was refronted in brick for a John Marriott in the 1710s. A cistern on the house is dated 1716. North and south wings in symmetrical design were added to the original frontage of the house in 1912 by owner Samuel Blackwell. The house has wooden panelling with the arms of the Kettell family. The panelling was transferred to the house in 1852 following the demolition of the Manor House in Kings Langley High Street by Robert Blackwell, who renamed this house from Pingelsgate to the Manor House.The house is 2 storeys high in red brick with a wide frontage of 11 windows.The comedian and actor Peter Sellers bought the Manor House in the 1960s. It was subsequently owned by Gerald Legge, 9th Earl of Dartmouth.It was available to rent at £10,000 a month in 1998 (equivalent to £187,201 in 2021).

Chipperfield is a village and civil parish in the Dacorum district of Hertfordshire, England, approximately five miles southwest of Hemel Hempstead and five miles north of Watford. It stands on a chalk plateau at the edge of the Chiltern Hills, between 130 and 160 metres above sea level. The village green is at the centre of Chipperfield on the edge of the 117 acre Chipperfield Common. The rural parish includes the hamlet of Tower Hill.

Sarratt Bottom nature Reserve in Hertfordshire is a 3.2-hectare (7.9-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest. The site is a meadow beside the River Chess. It is an example of damp grassland which has been traditionally managed for grazing. There are also areas of swamp and marsh. The main plants in grassland areas include sweet vernal grass and meadow foxtail, and marsh horsetail and common spike-rush are common in damper areas. The site has hedgehogs and a wide variety of wetland birds and invertebrates.There is no public access but the site can be viewed from Moor Lane. The local planning authority is Three Rivers District Council.

Chorleywood House Estate is a 64.3 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Chorleywood in Hertfordshire. It is owned and managed by Three Rivers District Council, and the declaring authority is Hertfordshire County Council.It was designated a Local Nature Reserve in 2007.The River Chess runs through the estate which has formal parkland, meadows and mature woodland. Protected species include coralroot bittercress. Chorleywood Dell is a key neutral grassland site in the Biodiversity Action Plan for Hertfordshire. The gardens surround the 200-year-old manor house and summer house.There is access from Common Road.

Chorleywood Common is a 75.6 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Chorleywood in Hertfordshire. It is owned and managed by Chorleywood Parish Council, and the declaring authority is Hertfordshire County Council. The common is part of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Habitats on the common are acid heathland, neutral grassland, chalk meadows and secondary woodland. There are also seven ponds which have rare plants and amphibians. Some 300 fungi, 70 plant species and 50 birds have been recorded.There is access from Rickmansworth Road and Dog Kennel Lane.

Loudwater is a private housing estate in the parish of Chorleywood, separated from the latter by the River Chess, north of Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire and just to the east of Junction 18 of the M25 motorway. Loudwater is an old name for the River Chess. The 2001 population was 1,242.

Westwood Quarry is a 0.07 hectare (0.18 acre) geological site of Special Scientific Interest west of Watford in Hertfordshire. It was notified in 1987 under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. The planning authority is Three Rivers District Council. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.It is described by Natural England as a key site for the early history of the River Thames as it provides the best known exposure of the Lower Gravel Train, a deposit formed when the Thames flowed through the Vale of St Albans, before it was diverted south to its present course during the Anglian Ice Age around 450,000 years ago.The site is privately owned with no public access.

Frogmore Meadows is a 4.6-hectare (11-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, north of the village of Chenies. It consists of two meadows in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, next to the River Chess, one of which is a Hertfordshire and Middlesex Wildlife Trust nature reserve. The planning authorities are Three Rivers District Council, Dacorum Borough Council and Chiltern District Council.The site has marshy areas and fens next to the river, damp grassland and drier, more acidic areas. The river bank has water voles, and damp areas are dominated by meadow foxtail and Yorkshire fog, with some marsh marigold and marsh bedstraw. Plants in drier areas include betony, and mature hedgerows have a wide variety of invertebrates. There are butterflies such as skippers, meadow browns, ringlets and marbled whites.The site is open at all times and a footpath between Sarratt and Chenies affords access.

The Royal Masonic School for Girls (RMS) is an independent school in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, England, with day and boarding pupils. The school was instituted in 1788, with the aim of caring for the daughters of poor Freemasons. In 1978, the school opened to girls beyond the daughters of non-freemasons.The school opened in 1789 with fifteen pupils in Somers Town, St Pancras, Middlesex. The school has moved between premises three times, twice within London and in 1934 to Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire, where it still is today. The Royal Masonic School for Girls is a day school for girls 4–18 and a boarding school for girls 7–18. A nursery opened in 2009 for boys and girls aged 2–4.

King's Langley Priory was a Dominican priory in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, England. It was located adjacent to the Kings Langley Royal Palace, residence of the Plantagenet English kings.
