Snow Queen (Croatian: Snježna kraljica) is a World Cup alpine ski race in Croatia. The men's and women's slalom races take place on the Medvednica mountaintop Sljeme, just north of Zagreb, usually in early January. The women's race debuted in 2005 and the men's event was added three years later in 2008. The events are held on the red run ski track on Medvednica, starting at an elevation of 985 m (3,232 ft) and ending at 785 m (2,575 ft). Besides the city events in Moscow and Munich, it is the only World Cup event held near a large metropolitan area. Its current prize fund of €120,000 is one of the largest on the World Cup circuit, with a winner's share of €46,000. The race has been known to attract up to 25,000 spectators, making it one of the largest and the most visited races on the World Cup calendar. The trophy is a crystal crown with past winners' names imprinted on it. At the award ceremony, the winner is presented with a cloak and sits on a throne like a queen (king).

OIV Tower Sljeme is a 169-metre (563 ft) tall TV and radio tower built of reinforced concrete on the summit of the 1035 metre (3450 ft) tall peak Sljeme of the Medvednica mountain north of Zagreb, Croatia. Zagreb TV Tower was built in 1973. It is not open to public, although at 75-metre (246 ft) level there is a space for a foreseen tower restaurant. On 4 October 1991, during the Croatian War of Independence, the tower was a target of a Yugoslav Air Force attack. The tower was bombed at 16:10 and as a consequence the entire fourth and fifth floors and a portion of the third floor sustained heavy damage, rendering the tower unusable. Two staff members present at the time of the attack were not hurt as they took shelter at the base of the tower. It took three months to repair the damage. During that time the television programme was broadcast via several low-power transmitters located within Zagreb itself and on top of the Medvednica Mountain. The alternate transmitters were already in position at the time because an attack against the tower was considered possible.There are some speculations about the opening of the tower restaurant, as a part of the "Sljeme" project, which includes building of the new ski-tracks, and an extension of the cable car line.

Medvednica (pronounced [mědʋednitsa]) is a mountain in central Croatia, just north of Zagreb, and marking the southern border of the historic region of Zagorje. The highest peak, at 1,035 m (3,396 ft) is Sljeme. Most of the area of Medvednica is a nature park (park prirode), a type of preservation lesser than a national park. The area of the park is 228.26 km2 (88.1 sq mi) and about 63% is covered with forest. During Miocene and Pliocene, the mountain was an island within the Pannonian Sea.

Medvedgrad (pronounced [mědʋedɡraːd]; Croatian for bear-fort; Hungarian: Medvevár) is a medieval fortified town located on the south slopes of Medvednica mountain, approximately halfway from the Croatian capital Zagreb to the mountain top Sljeme. For defensive purposes it was built on a hill, Mali Plazur, that is a spur of the main ridge of the mountain that overlooks the city. On a clear day the castle can be seen from far away, especially the high main tower. Below the main tower of the castle is Oltar Domovine (Altar of the homeland) which is dedicated to Croatian soldiers killed in the Croatian War of Independence.

Villa Rebar is a ruined hunting lodge from 1932 located on Medvednica mountain, near Zagreb, Croatia. It was known as the residence of Croatian WWII politician Ante Pavelić. During World War II. Pavelić built a system of tunnels that connected the manor to military bunkers in the nearby hills, as well as some that acted as escape tunnels. After the war, Pavelić fled, and the villa was eventually remodelled and turned into a mountain resort called "Risnjak". A fire in 1979 razed the manor to its stone foundations. After this disaster, the property, along with its tunnels, were simply abandoned. The above ground foundations of the home remain to this day, overgrown and marred with graffiti. Urban explorers have also taken to tagging up the tunnels beneath the estate. However, exploring the tunnels beneath the ruins of Pavelić's former mansion is not recommended.

The Zagreb cable car is a gondola lift in Zagreb, Croatia. Opened in 2022, it runs from the Podsljeme district to Sljeme, the highest peak of the Medvednica mountain.

Podsljeme (pronounced [pǒtsʎeme]) is a city district situated in the foothills of Zagreb's mountain Medvednica and its name stands for "under Sljeme" (Sljeme is the peak of the Medvednica mountain). It has the status of četvrt (quarter, district, borough) and as such has an elected council. It is located about 5km north of central Zagreb.Podsljeme had 19,165 residents in 2011. Its residents are mainly upper middle or upper class. Podsljeme is an affluent part of Zagreb with a high cost per square meter, about 3500 Euros per square meter. Upper-middle-class homes and dense deciduous forest prevail in this area. Many of the city's tycoons, political personalities and celebrities live in the district.

Markuševec is a neighbourhood in the northeast of Zagreb, Croatia, within the Podsljeme district. The area of the local city council of Markuševec has a population of 6,236 (census 2021). The old village of Markuševec was known for centuries, and used to be called Sv. Šimun (St. Simon), after the local Catholic Church, one of the oldest in the Zagreb Diocese, dated to 1276, with the current altar built in 1476. The village was renamed to Markuševec in the 16th century after a magnate called Markuscz raised a significant population of servants and serfs that received the moniker 'Markusczevi'. The area was integrated into the city of Zagreb in 1949. Between 1955 and 1967, and then between 1974 and the 1990s, Markuševec was part of the administrative area of Maksimir. The current administrative layout dates to 2009.
