Touro Synagogue is a Reform synagogue in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was named after Judah Touro, the son of Isaac Touro, the namesake of the country's oldest synagogue, Touro Synagogue in Newport, Rhode Island. The New Orleans Touro Synagogue is one of the oldest synagogues in the United States and the oldest in the country outside the original Thirteen Colonies. The current synagogue was founded in 1881 from the merger of two older (originally Orthodox) congregations: the German Jewish Shangarai Chasset congregation, and Portuguese Jewish (Sephardic) Nefutzot Yehudah congregation. The current sanctuary building on St. Charles Avenue in Uptown New Orleans was constructed in 1908 and dedicated 1 January 1909.

It is the first season of The Real World to be filmed in West South Central States region of the United States, specifically in Louisiana. The season featured seven people who lived in a remodeled Civil War-era mansion, called The Belfort, in the Garden District, New Orleans and is the first of two seasons to be filmed in New Orleans. Ten years later, the show made a return in the twenty-fourth season. Filming took place over the course of 124 days between January and late May 2000 in the Belfort Mansion on St. Charles Avenue. The season premiered June 13 of that year and consisted of 23 episodes. Author Anne Rice has a guest appearance this season.

The St. Peter A.M.E. Church, or St. Peter African Methodist Episcopal Church, in New Orleans, Louisiana, is a historic church which was founded about 1850. It is one of the oldest black congregations in the New Orleans area. Its building, at 1201 Cadiz Street at the corner with Coliseum St., in a residential neighborhood, was built in 1858 was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The church was deemed significant in black history, and architecturally, as "the present church building is one of the most outstanding black churches in the state. Although St. Peter's African Methodist Episcopal Church has been modified over the years, it retains a degree of architectural significance owing to its size and to its use of two high style features which are seldom found in black churches. These are the shingle style side tower and the relatively elaborate stained glass windows of the nave."

The restaurant's executive chef is Justin Devillier, and is owned by New Orleans restaurateur Joel Dondis. La Petite Grocery's name originates from Frank Vonderhaar's 1937 market called “the little grocery store.” When La Petite Grocery opened in 2004, it paid homage to the Vonderhaar family with its restaurant name. In 2007, Food & Wine Magazine noted La Petite Grocery as “A neighborhood spot you could revisit every week…we loved: bouillabaisse of gulf seafood.”
