Lapinniemi

Lappi is a district in Tampere, Finland, near the Lake Näsijärvi and the Kauppi's park area. About 700 people live there. When talking about Lappi, reference is usually made to the Lapinniemi district. The district is home to the Koukkuniemi's nursing home, which is one of the largest nursing homes in Europe. There are also yacht clubs in the area (e.g. Tampere Yacht Club) and a spa and apartments in an old factory building were completed for the 1990 housing fair. The Lappi district got its name from Lapinniemi, which piers Lake Näsijärvi. The name may refer to early Lappish settlement. Part of the Lappi district is called Käpylä, which refers to the first inhabitant of the area, August Käpynen, a worker who moved there in 1915. The town plan for Lappi was confirmed in 1933. The Naistenlahti area, which officially forms one district of Tampere together with the old factory area of Tampella, became the property of the city of Tampere in 1877, at the same time as the city bought the Kyttälä area from Hatanpää Manor. Behind the name of Naistenlahti is a story according to which women on their way from Teisko to Messukylä Church got ashore here to continue their final journey.The Finnish Heritage Agency has classified Lappi's detached house area as a nationally significant built cultural environment.

Osmonmäki is a district in the center of Tampere, Finland. The immediate neighbors of the area are Tammela, Tampella, Lappi and Petsamo. There are apartment buildings in the area, but also hundred-year-old wooden buildings. In 2011, the district had 1,613 inhabitants.

Erkkilän silta (the ″Erkkilä Bridge″) is a bridge located in the center of Tampere, Finland. It crosses the railway yard to the north of the Tampere Central Station, connecting the Jussinkylä and Tammela districts. The bridge is a type of steel tied-arch bridge, a combination of arch and beam bridge with a span of 42 meters. The stone ground supports of the bridge come from a bridge built in 1963 on the same site. The bridge was completed in 1983.In connection with the construction of the bridge, another old ground support was reinforced with drill piles. The bridge was renovated in 2005 by, among other things, renewing the waterproofing and coating of the bridge deck and painting the steel arches.

Jussinkylä (also known as Juhannuskylä) is a neighbourhood in the city center of Tampere, Finland. It is located east of Tammerkoski and borders Satakunnankatu in the south. To the east and northeast, the district is bounded by a railway and to the northwest by Lapintie. The Erkkilä Bridge (Erkkilän silta) connects Jussinkylä to Tammela. The most significant landmarks in the area are Tampere Cathedral and Tampere Central Fire Station. Neighboring neighborhoods are Finlayson, Tampella and Kyttälä, from which the latter runs a route along the Tuomiokirkonkatu street. The background to the name of the district is unknown, but it has been in use since at least the 1870s. It may refer to a person named Johannes, or even to the celebration of Midsummer.

Tammelantori is a market square in the Tammela district in the center of Tampere in Pirkanmaa, Finland. It is one of Tampere's most significant marketplaces, which is very popular, especially during the summer. The market is very famous for its cafes and mustamakkara kiosks.

Tampella (until 2002 known as Naistenlahti) is a neighbourhood in the northern part of the city center of Tampere, Finland. It consists of the old Tampella factory area, the Armonkallio residential area and the Naistenlahti harbor area. The neighboring parts of the internally heterogeneous district located on the shores of Lake Näsijärvi are Lapinniemi, Lappi, Osmonmäki, Tammela, Jussinkylä, Finlayson and Särkänniemi.The Naistenlahti Power Plant operates on the shores of Lake Näsijärvi in Tampella. The Vapriikki Museum Centre is also located in the district.

The Tampere Central Fire Station (Finnish: Tampereen keskuspaloasema) is a fire station located at Satakunnankatu 16 in the Jussinkylä, Tampere, Finland, on the eastern shore of Tammerkoski. The Art Nouveau-style fire station building, completed in 1908, was designed by architect Wivi Lönn.

Tampere sub-region is a subdivision of Pirkanmaa and one of the sub-regions of Finland since 2009. It covers an area of 4,977 km2. The Tampere region, with 416,653 people, is the second largest after the Helsinki region.

Posteljooninpuisto (Finnish for "Postman's Park") is a French formal garden style park built in the 1930s in central Tampere, Finland, at the corner of Rautatienkatu and Itsenäisyydenkatu. At the corner of the park is the former head post office of Tampere. The park is also internally connected to the Tampere railway station located next to it, which the Finnish Heritage Agency has classified as a significant cultural environment. The park is owned by the city of Tampere.The majority of the trees at Posteljooninpuisto are deciduous. Trees planted there include common lindens. All of the lawn areas, structures of walking paths and lights were renovated from 2017 to 2018. At the same time, a pool was built underneath the park, in order to prevent urban runoff water from draining to the tunnel underneath the railway.The steel sculpture Elämän virta ("Flow of life") designed by Aimo Taleva is located at the park. It is a memorial to the schlager and tango singer Olavi Virta, who lived his final years in Tampere.

Tammela is a district in Tampere, Finland, located east of the city centre. Tammela was born since the 1870s as a working-class neighbourhood, today it is especially popular among the students of the nearby Tampere University. As of 2014, the population of Tammela was 5,646.Tammela was almost completely destroyed in the 1918 Finnish Civil War Battle of Tampere and also severely damaged in the air raids of World War II. Some wooden houses from the early 1900s have remained in the so-called Puu-Tammela area in the eastern side of the district. Today Tammela is known of the Tammelantori Market Square and its mustamakkara kiosks, and the Tammela Football Stadium.

Aleksanterinkatu ("Alexander Street") is a street in the Kyttälä district, in the centre of Tampere, Finland. It is a north–south street, which is one of the cross streets of Hämeenkatu, Tampere's main street. In the south, it intersects the Hatanpää highway at Sori Square and ends in the north at Erkkilänaukee in Jussinkylä, near Tampere Cathedral. Like most streets in Kyttälä, Aleksanterinkatu was named in 1877, when the area was annexed to the city of Tampere and a town plan was approved. However, the town plan was not put into practice until the 1890s, when the 15-year lease granted to the old inhabitants of the area expired. The name Aleksanterinkatu presumably refers to Tsar Alexander II of Russia, who had confirmed Tampere's free city rights unchanged for a new 50-year period in 1855.Aleksanterinkatu is also the name of the main street in many other Finnish cities, e.g.: Helsinki, Lahti, Oulu, Porvoo and Loviisa.

The Tampere Film Festival (Finnish: Tampereen elokuvajuhlat) is a short film festival held every March, mostly at the Finnkino Plevna movie theatre, in Tampere, Finland. It is accredited by the film producers' society FIAPF, and together with the short film festivals in Oberhausen and Clermont-Ferrand, it is among the most important European short film festivals.The first festival was held in 1969. Since 1970, it has been held in its current form, which makes it the oldest short film festival in Northern Europe. Approximately 500 short films are screened during the five days of the festival each year. On December 15, 2020, it was announced that the Tampere Film Festival will open a new international short film competition called Generation XYZ for 2021, which has been developed in cooperation with an American film production company XYZ Films. Selected films will be showcased at the 2021 Tampere Film Festival and judged by an independent jury, and the winning film will be given a prize in the amount of €2,000.
