Hollinshead Hall

Upper Roddlesworth Reservoir is a reservoir on the River Roddlesworth near Abbey Village in Lancashire, England. The reservoir is close to Lower Roddlesworth Reservoir and Rake Brook Reservoir and sits within dense woodland.

Roddlesworth is a hamlet in the parish of Withnell in Lancashire, England. It lies on the road connecting Preston with Bolton. The name is first encountered as Rodtholfeswrtha (1160), meaning "the homestead of Hrothwulf".

The octagonal Jubilee Tower (officially called Darwen Tower) at grid reference SD678215 on Darwen Hill overlooking the town of Darwen in Lancashire, England, was completed in 1898 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, while also celebrating the victory of the local people for the right to access the moor. It was opened to the public on 24 September 1898. The architect was R. W. Smith-Saville and he modified the plans for the tower slightly. The tower is 85 feet (25.9 m) in height, while Darwen Hill (also known as Beacon Hill) is 1,220 feet (370 metres) above sea-level. Walkers can climb to the top of the tower via the internal staircase to see views of North Yorkshire, Morecambe Bay, Blackpool Tower, Cumbria, the Isle of Man, North Wales, Derbyshire, elsewhere in Lancashire, and surrounding moorland.

Lower Roddlesworth Reservoir is a reservoir on the River Roddlesworth close to Abbey Village in Lancashire, England. The reservoir is close to Upper Roddlesworth Reservoir and Rake Brook Reservoir, situated within thick forest. It was constructed in the 1850s by Thomas Hawksley for Liverpool Corporation Waterworks, and together with Rake Brook, was designed to hold compensation water to maintain flows in the rivers, whereas the reservoirs at Lower Rivington, Upper Rivington and Anglezarke held water for the public water supply. Water from the two compensation reservoirs was fed into Anglezarke reservoir by a 3.75-mile (6 km) channel called The Goit.An Act of Parliament to authorise its construction was obtained in 1847, and Hawksley designed an earth dam which was 82 feet (25 m) tall at its highest point and 590 feet (180 m) long. It impounded 91 million imperial gallons (414 Ml) of water when full. The reservoir was completed in 1857.

Spitlers Edge is a ridge running along the eastern edge of Anglezarke Moor, Chorley, Lancashire, England from Standing Stones Hill to Hordern Stoops. The peak, complete with a cairn at 1,286 feet (392 m), is the high point of the moorland. Redmonds Edge links Spitlers Edge to Great Hill and is paved. As of 2017, there are plans to extend the paving along the length of Spitlers Edge - with funding secured from the Lancashire Environmental Fund and United Utilities.Along the length of the edge is a stone wall of some historical importance - the boundary was built in 1841 as a relief measure to provide respite from the Hungry Forties, and is the parliamentary division boundary between Chorley and Blackburn. The name is derived from the fact that in mediaeval times, the Knights Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem used this route when travelling to their holdings in this district. The ridge provides the peaks that supply the source water to the River Yarrow.

Great Hill is a hill in Lancashire, England, on Anglezarke Moor, between the towns of Chorley and Darwen. It is part of the West Pennine Moors and lies approximately 3 miles north of Winter Hill, which is the highest point in the area at 456 m (1,498 ft). The summit at 381 m (1,252 ft) is only slightly higher than the surrounding moorland, but provides excellent views in all directions particularly to the north and west. Paths head west towards White Coppice via the ruins of Drinkwaters, south to Winter Hill via Hordern Stoops, and east to Darwen Tower via Pimm's, Picadilly and the ruins of Hollinshead Hall. The sources of Black Brook and the River Roddlesworth are on the slopes of the hill. The traditional walker's cairn has been replaced by a stone bench in the shape of a cross, which offers shelter from the wind.

Black Brook in Lancashire has its source at Great Hill in the West Pennine Moors. The water is acidic due to a high level of peat in the uplands near to Round Loaf, giving the brook its brown colour. The young river was known as Warth Brook in olden Heapey. A feeder stream also known as Black Brook joins near Kittiwake Road - this short and weak water course commences at Eagle Tower. The jointed brook feeds Anglezarke Reservoir, and joins the River Yarrow in lowland Chorley at Yarrow Bridge. The entire course of Black Brook and the River Yarrow fall within Chorley and its villages.

Tockholes is a village and civil parish which forms part of the Blackburn with Darwen unitary authority in the English county of Lancashire, England. Tockholes consists of the village of Tockholes itself and the hamlet of Ryal Fold, and has a population of 454, increasing to 478 at the 2011 Census. It lies on the West Pennine Moors and is surrounded by the towns of Blackburn to the north and Darwen to the east and by the villages of Belmont to the south and Withnell to the west. Darwen Tower is a prominent local landmark that lies to the east of Tockholes and the Roddlesworth Reservoirs and Tockholes forest plantation lie to the south with the M65 passing to the north. There are two churches: Tockholes United Reformed Church and Saint Stephen's Church.

It was constructed in the 1850s by Thomas Hawksley for Liverpool Corporation Waterworks, and was designed to hold compensation water to maintain flows in the rivers, whereas the reservoirs at Lower Rivington, Upper Rivington and Anglezarke held water for the public water supply. Water from the reservoir was fed into Anglezarke reservoir by a 3.75-mile (6.04 km) channel called The Goit.Construction of the reservoir was authorised by an Act of Parliament obtained in 1847, and the engineer Thomas Hawksley designed an earth dam which was 85 feet (26 m) tall at its highest point and 1,490 feet (450 m) long. The reservoir was finished in 1857, and impounded 73 million imperial gallons (330 Ml) of water when full.

Belmont Reservoir is a reservoir north of the small moorland village of Belmont, Lancashire, England, fed by the Belmont Brook. It was built in 1826 by the Bolton Waterworks to supply water to the rapidly expanding town of Bolton. Belmont was once a thriving industrial centre for stone quarrying and printing. The reservoir is the home of the Bolton Sailing Club. The reservoir is important to wintering wildfowl.
