The Government Engineering College, Barton Hill, Thiruvananthapuram (short names: GECB, GECBH; Entrance Commissioner's Code: TRV), was founded by the Government of Kerala in August 1999 and provides technical education under APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. The institution is located in Barton Hill, which is two kilometres (1.2 mi) from the city centre in Trivandrum. The institute has five major departments: Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering. All these departments have obtained an NBA accreditation. The college is currently ranked second among the 138 colleges affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University according to Academic Performance Index (API) report published by the university.

University of Kerala, formerly the University of Travancore, is a state-run public university located in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital of Kerala, India. It was established in 1937 by a promulgation of the Maharajah of Travancore, Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma who was also the first Chancellor of the university. C. P. Ramaswamy Iyer, the then Diwan (Prime Minister) of the State was the first Vice-Chancellor. It was the first university in Kerala, and among the first in the country. Accredited by NAAC with highest grade of A++ and scored 3.67 points out of 4. The university has over 150 affiliated colleges and has sixteen faculties and 43 Departments of teaching and research. The Governor of Kerala serves as the Chancellor of university.

Kannammoola is an urban neighborhood of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. The Aakkulam lake that forms a part of the Kerala backwaters is situated in Kannammoola. Kannammoola was the birthplace of Chattampi Swamikal, who is considered to be one of the greatest religious scholars and reformer of Kerala. The mortal remains of Velu Thampi Dalawa, who had committed suicide to avoid capture when surrounded by the soldiers of the new Dalawa, were gibbetted by the British at Kannammoola. The Secretariat complex was originally constructed as Durbar Hall for Travancore Kingdom.

Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram also known as GLC Trivandrum is one of the institutions imparting graduate and post graduate legal education in India. Affiliated to the University of Kerala, it is the second law college in Kerala and one of the oldest law colleges in India. It was established in 1875 by the then Maharajah of the erstwhile Princely State of Travancore. Notable alumni of the college including Judges of Supreme Court of India such as Justice Fathima Beevi, judges of High Courts, politicians, and academicians such as N. R. Madhava Menon.

The St. Mary, Queen of Peace Basilica, located in the Palayam/Cantonment area of the city of Thiruvananthapuram, in the state of Kerala, India, is the first Syro-Malankara Catholic Church to be elevated to the rank of a Catholic basilica. It is the fifth basilica in Kerala. On 10 November 2008, at the St. Mary's Cathedral, Pattom, Trivandrum, Leonardo Sandri, Papal representative and Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, announced the designation of the Queen of Peace Pro-Cathedral in Thiruvananthapuram as a basilica. Major Archbishop Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos dedicated the church as the St. Mary, Queen of Peace Basilica on 7 December 2008. Kerala Minister for Law, Sports and Youth Affairs M. Vijayakumar presided over a meeting that followed.

Gandhari Amman Kovil is a Hindu temple located at Mele Thampanoor, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. Gandhari amman is the principal deity in this temple. There are other small temples of Ganesha, Nagaraj and Manthramurthi are located in this temple complex. Chithra poornima is the main festival in this temple. This festival is celebrated in the month of May. This kovil is located 1.5 km from Thiruvananthapuram central Railway Station, Thampanoor.
