Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram

The Government Engineering College, Barton Hill, Thiruvananthapuram (short names: GECB, GECBH; Entrance Commissioner's Code: TRV), was founded by the Government of Kerala in August 1999 and provides technical education under APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. The institution is located in Barton Hill, which is two kilometres (1.2 mi) from the city centre in Trivandrum. The institute has five major departments: Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering. All these departments have obtained an NBA accreditation. The college is currently ranked second among the 138 colleges affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University according to Academic Performance Index (API) report published by the university.

The Kerala Women's Commission is a statutory body constituted under Section 5 of The Kerala Women's Commission Act, 1990. According to the Act, the commission was constituted to improve the status of women in the State of Kerala and to inquire into unfair practices affecting women and for the matters connected therewith or incidental thereto (The Kerala Women's Commission Act, 1990).

The Niyamasabha Mandiram, located in Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram, is the seat of the Kerala State Legislative Assembly or the Niyamasabha. Built primarily in the classical style of Architecture of Kerala, with strong influences of many contemporary styles, it is a structure with grand staircase, gardens, water bodies and a large Central Assembly Hall. Located in a high security zone, the complex accommodates the residence of the Speaker of the Niyamasabha, legislature offices of all MLAs and offices of independent commissions and bodies. The assembly was opened on 22 May 1998, by the President of India, K. R. Narayanan.

University of Kerala, formerly the University of Travancore, is a state-run public university located in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital of Kerala, India. It was established in 1937 by a promulgation of the Maharajah of Travancore, Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma who was also the first Chancellor of the university. C. P. Ramaswamy Iyer, the then Diwan (Prime Minister) of the State was the first Vice-Chancellor. It was the first university in Kerala, and among the first in the country. Accredited by NAAC with highest grade of A++ and scored 3.67 points out of 4. The university has over 150 affiliated colleges and has sixteen faculties and 43 Departments of teaching and research. The Governor of Kerala serves as the Chancellor of university.

The college is situated to the east of Neyyattinkara in Trivandrum District. The institution is in the forefront of imparting world class education to the youngsters.

University Stadium or Kerala University Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in the city of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala and is used for predominantly football and also for athletics. University stadium had hosted the first one-day international cricket match in kerala.The stadium is owned by the University of Kerala and was opened by Sir Mirza the Diwan of the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad in 1940. The stadium has a capacity of 20,000. The G. V. Raja Pavilion is in the stadium. The stadium was used as the home ground for the Indian domestic cricket team Kerala till the late 1980s. The stadium has hosted 2 ODI matches with the host team India losing one match and the other match yielded no result. The stadium was the home ground of Chirag United Club, for the 2011-2012 I-League season.

Palayam or Cantonment, as it is locally known, one of the busiest localities in Thiruvananthapuram (also known as [Trivandrum), the capital of Kerala State in India. It is home to many of the administrative, cultural, and educational institutions in Kerala.

The St. Mary, Queen of Peace Basilica, located in the Palayam/Cantonment area of the city of Thiruvananthapuram, in the state of Kerala, India, is the first Syro-Malankara Catholic Church to be elevated to the rank of a Catholic basilica. It is the fifth basilica in Kerala. On 10 November 2008, at the St. Mary's Cathedral, Pattom, Trivandrum, Leonardo Sandri, Papal representative and Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, announced the designation of the Queen of Peace Pro-Cathedral in Thiruvananthapuram as a basilica. Major Archbishop Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos dedicated the church as the St. Mary, Queen of Peace Basilica on 7 December 2008. Kerala Minister for Law, Sports and Youth Affairs M. Vijayakumar presided over a meeting that followed.
