Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram also known as GLC Trivandrum is one of the institutions imparting graduate and post graduate legal education in India. Affiliated to the University of Kerala, it is the second law college in Kerala and one of the oldest law colleges in India. It was established in 1875 by the then Maharajah of the erstwhile Princely State of Travancore. Notable alumni of the college including Judges of Supreme Court of India such as Justice Fathima Beevi, judges of High Courts, politicians, and academicians such as N. R. Madhava Menon.

The Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Thiruvananthapuram is the highest government level referral hospital in the field of ophthalmology in Kerala state. As of 2021, it is the only Regional Institute of Ophthalmology in Kerala. The hospital is located near the General Hospital at Red Cross Road in Thiruvananthapuram city. Sunayanam, the first mobile eye hospital in Kerala operates under Thiruvananthapuram Regional Institute of Ophthalmology.Daily about 600 people are consulted as referrals, and about 200 people come in directly for treatment without a referral.

University of Kerala, formerly the University of Travancore, is a state-run public university located in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital of Kerala, India. It was established in 1937 by a promulgation of the Maharajah of Travancore, Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma who was also the first Chancellor of the university. C. P. Ramaswamy Iyer, the then Diwan (Prime Minister) of the State was the first Vice-Chancellor. It was the first university in Kerala, and among the first in the country. Accredited by NAAC with highest grade of A++ and scored 3.67 points out of 4. The university has over 150 affiliated colleges and has sixteen faculties and 43 Departments of teaching and research. The Governor of Kerala serves as the Chancellor of university.

The Niyamasabha Mandiram, located in Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram, is the seat of the Kerala State Legislative Assembly or the Niyamasabha. Kannammoola was the birthplace of Chattampi Swamikal, who is considered to be one of the greatest religious scholars and reformer of Kerala. The mortal remains of Velu Thampi Dalawa, who had committed suicide to avoid capture when surrounded by the soldiers of the new Dalawa, were gibbetted by the British at Kannammoola. Trivandrum International Airport is located nearby and the closest railway stations are Pettah and Thiruvananthapuram Central.

The St. Mary, Queen of Peace Basilica, located in the Palayam/Cantonment area of the city of Thiruvananthapuram, in the state of Kerala, India, is the first Syro-Malankara Catholic Church to be elevated to the rank of a Catholic basilica. It is the fifth basilica in Kerala. On 10 November 2008, at the St. Mary's Cathedral, Pattom, Trivandrum, Leonardo Sandri, Papal representative and Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, announced the designation of the Queen of Peace Pro-Cathedral in Thiruvananthapuram as a basilica. Major Archbishop Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos dedicated the church as the St. Mary, Queen of Peace Basilica on 7 December 2008. Kerala Minister for Law, Sports and Youth Affairs M. Vijayakumar presided over a meeting that followed.
