Davenport House, Worfield

Worfield is a village and civil parish in Shropshire in the West Midlands, England. It is 120 miles (190 km) northwest of London and 10 miles (16 km) west of Wolverhampton. It is north of Bridgnorth and southeast of Telford. The parish, which includes the hamlet of Chesterton, is an extensive one which lies on the River Worfe. The name Worfield comes from its location on the river Worfe and the surrounding countryside (fields). The manor of Worfield is mentioned in Domesday Book, where it formed part of the Seisdon Hundred of Staffordshire and was held by Hugh of Montgomery, 2nd Earl of Shrewsbury.

Royal Air Force Bridgnorth or more simply RAF Bridgnorth is a former Royal Air Force station, created after the outbreak of the Second World War on 6 November 1939, at Stanmore, to the east of Bridgnorth, Shropshire, England. However, as RAF Stanmore Park already existed in Middlesex, it was named RAF Bridgnorth. Although during its existence various static aeroplanes were displayed as gate guardians, RAF Bridgnorth never had a runway.The first unit stationed there was No. 4 Recruit Centre. Their role was to carry out the basic training of new recruits in the RAF, originally designed for 2,000 recruits and 500 permanent staff. In 1940 spare accommodation at Bridgnorth enabled it to be used as a transit and kitting out centre for troops returning from France. In August 1941 the Station was renamed No. 1 Women's Auxiliary Air Force Depot involved with the training of WAAF recruits. By September 1942 saw another change of name to the No. 1 Elementary Air Navigation School. Other changes subsequently took place as dictated by the needs of the war effort. From its inception until after the war, the station also had a 114-bed hospital.

Stanmore Country Park (officially Stanmore Camp Countryside Site) is a 100-acre (40 ha) country park in Stanmore, Shropshire, 1.2 miles (2 km) east of Bridgnorth. Created in 1994 on the former site of RAF Bridgnorth, the park is run by the Shropshire County Council and contains an RAF memorial to those killed who were stationed at the military camp.

Morfe Forest was a medieval royal forest in east Shropshire. The forest was perambulated in 1300 and the bounds were recorded. The forest was bounded by the River Severn on the west, by the River Worfe on the north and stretched east to Abbots Castle Hill and south into Kings Nordley. At its core was a wood stretching from Bridgnorth to Six Ashes (near Enville) and Claverley. By the 17th century, the wood had become a heath, which was enclosed in 1805. The forest takes its name from the manor of Morfe (in Enville) which was however not part of the forest.

The open fields are great for walking or hiking. The area attracts many dog walkers. The architecture for the housing in Ackleton dates back to Tudor times. Ackleton is believed to have inspired the fictional village of Eckleton in writings of P.G.Wodehouse, whose parents lived in nearby Stableford.

Badger is a village and civil parish in Shropshire, England, about six miles north-east of Bridgnorth. The parish had a population of 134 according to the 2001 census, falling to 126 at the 2011 census.Badger Parish is at grid map reference SO 768 995. The boundaries of the parish contain the village of Badger, one side of Badger Dingle, and Badger Heath Farm. It is approximately 2.7 km at its widest point. The village and its surroundings, particularly the Dingle, are considered a visitor attraction. In their present form they owe much to deliberate planning and landscaping in the 18th century.

The River Worfe is a river in Shropshire, England. The name Worfe is said to derive from the Old English meaning to wander (or meander) which the river is notable for in its middle section. Mapping indicates that the river begins at Cosford Bridge where the Cosford Brook and Albrighton Brook meet (Cosford Brook, a local name, is itself the confluence of the Ruckley Brook and Neachley Brook).
