The Old Church (Stoke Newington)

St Mary, Stoke Newington is a parish church in Stoke Newington, London Borough of Hackney. Designed in the Gothic Revival version of the Decorated style by George Gilbert Scott and completed in 1858, it replaced a medieval and 16th century church, now an arts venue, and serves what remains of the ancient parish of Stoke Newington after other parishes were split from it in 1849, 1873, 1883 and 1892.The design was loosely based on that of Salisbury Cathedral. It is Grade II* listed. The first vicar was Thomas Jackson, who, as a young rector, was attracting congregations from all over London by his reputation as a preacher. The church's steeple, however, was not completed until 1890, by Scott's son John Oldrid Scott, which led to a humorous rhyme being composed: "Stoke Newington's a funny placeWith lots of funny people;Thomas Jackson built a churchBut could not build a steeple."A restoration of St Mary's was undertaken under Nugent Cachemaille-Day after the Second World War. It was Grade II* listed on 1 September 1953.

The Rose and Crown is a Grade II listed public house at 199 Stoke Newington Church Street, Stoke Newington, Hackney, London, N16 9ES. It was built in 1930–32 for Truman's Brewery, and designed by their in-house architect A. E. Sewell.It was Grade II listed in 2015 by Historic England.

Thoresby House is one of three London residence halls owned by the College of Global Studies at Arcadia University. This residence hall is used for the University's study abroad programme participants. Thoresby House is in Hoxton within the London Borough of Hackney, on the border of Islington. Located on Thoresby Street, just off City Road, Thoresby House is close to Angel and Old Street tube stations on the Northern line in zone 1. There are many bus routes that stop along City Road near Thoresby House, including the 43, 205, 214, and 394. Thoresby House is within walking distance of City University.

The road links Green Lanes (A105) in the west to Stoke Newington High Street (the A10, formerly Ermine Street), in the east. Clissold Park is an open space in Stoke Newington, in the London Borough of Hackney. It is bounded by Greenway Close (to the north), Church Street (south), Green Lanes (west) and Queen Elizabeth's Walk (east); the south-east corner abuts St Mary's Old Church, now an arts venue. The park is 22.57 hectares (55.8 acres) in extent. The main building within its boundaries is the Grade II listed Clissold House, run as a cafe and events venue. The park's facilities include children's playgrounds, sports fields, a bowling green, a skatepark bowl, tennis courts, and a paddling pool. Other attractions include an aviary with assorted captive species, an enclosure of deer and goats, a butterfly dome, and two small lakes hosting wild ducks, geese, swans and other water birds. The park also comprises a short section of the New River, and the Capital Ring has some of its paths running through the park. Clissold Park received a Green Flag award in July 2008, and was substantially restored soon afterwards.

Stoke Newington is an area occupying the north-west part of the London Borough of Hackney in north-east London, England. It is five miles (eight kilometres) northeast of Charing Cross. The Manor of Stoke Newington gave its name to Stoke Newington the ancient parish. The historic core on Stoke Newington Church Street retains the distinct London village character which led Nikolaus Pevsner to write in 1953 that he found it hard to see the district as being in London at all.

New Stoke Newington Shul is a Masorti Jewish congregation, located in Stoke Newington in the Borough of Hackney, London, England, in the United Kingdom. The congregation is led by its inaugural rabbi, Roni Tabick, appointed in 2015. The community was established in 2007 as the Haringey/Stoke Newington Masorti Group. Services are held weekly in local community centres and, as of April 2024, the congregation did not have its own synagogue.

The Crimes Town Gallery in Stoke Newington ran between July 2007 and March 2010. The gallery was run by Gavin Toye and Ben Newton who are both artists. It existed in the Sea Cadets building on Stoke Newington High St. In May 2008 Toye and Newton staged "Walpurgisnacht" at their gallery, a group show featuring artists such as Cathy Lomax, James Unsworth and Sarah Sparkes. Walpurgisnacht is traditionally the biggest Witches Sabbath of the year, the time when the forces of the supernatural meet with the mortal world. This show was previewed in the Guardian Guide by Jessica Lack. In June 2008 guest curator Harry Pye organised a group show called, "Poetic Licence". This exhibition featured sixteen artists including John Moseley, Barry Thompson, and Edward Ward. Each of the show's contributors made a painting or drawing that was inspired by their love of a favourite poem.
