Nógrád (Hungarian; Latin: comitatus Neogradiensis, German: Neuburg or Neograd, Slovak: Novohrad) was an administrative county (comitatus) of the Kingdom of Hungary. Its territory is now divided between Hungary and Slovakia. The name Novohrad is still used in Slovakia as an informal designation of the corresponding territory. The name is derived from the former Nógrád castle in Hungary.

Krtíš

Krtíš is a river in southern central Slovakia. It flows through Zvolen and Veľký Krtíš districts, through the towns of Modrý Kameň and Veľký Krtíš. It enters the Ipeľ river near Slovenské Ďarmoty as a right tributary. It is 35.5 km (22.1 mi) long and its basin size is 234 km2 (90 sq mi).

It was the seat of the Nógrád comitatus. Balassagyarmat is the capital city of Palóc country as the prominent author of Hungarian epic, Kálmán Mikszáth said. Palóc people's origin is quite mysterious. Their distinctive dialect, culture, folklore, and traditions make them a unique ethnicity.
