Florida National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located near the city of Bushnell in Sumter County, Florida. Administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs it encompasses 512.9 acres (207.6 ha) and began interments in 1988. It is now one of the busiest cemeteries in the United States.

The Sumter Correctional Institution is a state prison for men located in Bushnell, Sumter County, Florida, owned and operated by the Florida Department of Corrections. This facility has a mix of security levels, including minimum, medium, and close, and houses both adult male and young male offenders. Sumter first opened in 1965 and has a maximum capacity of 1639 prisoners. Sumter Correctional Institution is the location of the state's only Basic Training Unit for Youthful Offenders in the Department of Corrections. After completing the 120 day program with a heavy course load of drill practice, education, physical training and a highly regimented daily schedule inmates are released to serve the remainder of their sentence on probation the day of graduation. An alleged sexual assault against a 17-year-old inmate by six other prisoners in July 2013 triggered a federal lawsuit against the institution.

Pemberton Ferry, later renamed Croom, is a ghost town in Central Florida near Brooksville, Florida, and Ridge Manor, Florida. A rail line came to Pemberton Ferry in 1884. It was a rail stop by the Withlacoochee River just north of where the I-75 bridge over Croom-Rital Road and Withlacoochee State Trail is today. The Croom Tract is part of the Withlacoochee State Forest, and is located just north of another ghost town called Oriole. There is also a 20,000 acre Croom Wildlife Management Area. Ruins in the area include 1900 Thomas House, old foundations, a brick vat, the remains of an iron railroad bridge, family cemeteries and pits from phosphate mining. The area once included a turpentine still, sawmill, sugar mill, railroad switch out, railroad bridge and ferry. The area is now popular for turkey hunting and single track mountain biking. Another settlement in the area was known as Oriole and an abandoned Oriole cemetery remains in existence.

The Little Withlacoochee River is a 16-mile (26 kilometer) long river with its headwaters starting in the Richloam Wildlife Management Area in Sumter County, Florida. The Little Withlacoochee River ends near River Junction Campground just east of Silver Lake in the Croom Wildlife Management Area. It makes up a portion of the Hernando-Sumter County border. Its drainage basin covers 145 mi² (376 km²) of Hernando County and Sumter County.

Silver Lake is a long and narrow natural freshwater lake on the border between Hernando County, Florida, and Sumter County, Florida. This lake is surrounded by the Withlacoochee State Forest. On the south shore are the Silver Lake Campgrounds. A public boat ramp on the lake shore is within the campgrounds. On the northwest this lake is bounded by Interstate 75. The entire shore of Silver Lake is forested. A small almost round islet, 60 feet (18 m) long by 50 feet (15 m) wide, is in the southeast corner of the lake, just offshore. Sometimes sandbars are nearby. The Withlacoochee River flows into the lake and out the other end. While this lake has a public boat ramp it has no public swimming beach. There is no information about the types of fish in this lake in online sites.

Croom-A-Coochee is an unincorporated community in Sumter County, Florida, United States, located adjacent to the Croom Wildlife Management Area (WMA) near the Withlacoochee River. The official zip code is 33597, which is shared with Webster. In addition to the Croom WMA, Sumter County offers hunting in the Green Swamp, Richloam, and Half Moon Wildlife Management Area. A new area has opened at the northeast end of Lake Panasoffkee.

Nobleton is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Hernando County, Florida, United States. The population was 282 at the 2010 census, up from 160 at the 2000 census.

Nobleton Wayside Park a 2-acre (8,100 m2) park at 29061 Lamkin Drive in Nobleton, Florida that includes a boat ramp launching point on the Withlacoochee River as well as a shelter, basketball court, and picnic tables. Lamkin Drive is a loop road along the north side of County Road 476, the east end of which is at the intersection of Edgewater Avenue, which was once part of State Road 39. The park is across from the Nobleton Post Office, and between the crossing of the Withlacoochee State Trail and the Nobleton Outpost recreational area.

Withlacoochee State Trail is a 46-mile (74 km) long paved, multi-use, non-motorized rail trail in Florida located in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties. It follows along the Withlacoochee River and passes through the Withlacoochee State Forest. It is the longest paved rail trail in Florida.

Cypress Lake Preserve is a 324-acre (1.31 km2) nature preserve in Ridge Manor, Florida. The preserve is located in the vicinity of US 98/SR 50 and Ridge Manor Boulevard in Ridge Manor, Florida. It includes approximately 600 feet (180 m) of frontage on the Withlacoochee River and offers walking and hiking trails.Cypress Lake Preserve has two signs. One of which is on Paul N. Steckle Drive between the Withlacoochee River and a Hernando County Firehouse, and the other on Ridge Manor Boulevard across from the intersection with Olancha Road.

Wahoo is an unincorporated community in Sumter County, Florida, United States. First settled by the Timucua, the area was eventually settled by the Seminoles. During the Second Seminole War, Wahoo and the surrounding area served as shelter to the Seminoles and as the site of several skirmishes. After the war, white settlers migrated to the area and established a thriving town. Today, the rural community is connected to the nearby town of Bushnell. Wahoo is home to a middle-aged population whose ancestry mainly hails from Europe. As for the battle site, it is protected by the state of Florida for ecological purposes.

Lake Townsen Regional Park is a park located in northeastern Hernando County, Florida, United States. Although Hernando County Department of Parks gives the address as being in Brooksville, it is actually closer to Istachatta. The park occupies 375 acres (152 ha) and includes trails for jogging, hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. These trails connect with the Withlacoochee State Trail. The park also has fields for baseball, basketball, volleyball and horseshoes as well a picnic areas and a playground.
