Withlacoochee State Trail is a 46-mile (74 km) long paved, multi-use, non-motorized rail trail in Florida located in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties. It follows along the Withlacoochee River and passes through the Withlacoochee State Forest. It is the longest paved rail trail in Florida.

The Little Withlacoochee River is a 16-mile (26 kilometer) long river with its headwaters starting in the Richloam Wildlife Management Area in Sumter County, Florida. The Little Withlacoochee River ends near River Junction Campground just east of Silver Lake in the Croom Wildlife Management Area. It makes up a portion of the Hernando-Sumter County border. Its drainage basin covers 145 mi² (376 km²) of Hernando County and Sumter County.

Silver Lake is a long and narrow natural freshwater lake on the border between Hernando County, Florida, and Sumter County, Florida. This lake is surrounded by the Withlacoochee State Forest. On the south shore are the Silver Lake Campgrounds. A public boat ramp on the lake shore is within the campgrounds. On the northwest this lake is bounded by Interstate 75. The entire shore of Silver Lake is forested. A small almost round islet, 60 feet (18 m) long by 50 feet (15 m) wide, is in the southeast corner of the lake, just offshore. Sometimes sandbars are nearby. The Withlacoochee River flows into the lake and out the other end. While this lake has a public boat ramp it has no public swimming beach. Wildlife Lane is a street and apparent neighborhood in Hernando County, Florida. It is located along the north side of US 98-SR 50 east of Hill 'n Dale, Florida and west of Interstate 75 in Florida. It is also located along the southern edge of the Croom Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest.

Trilacoochee is an unincorporated community in the northeast corner of Pasco County, Florida, United States. It is at the northern terminus of the US 301 and US 98 multiplex. It has a non-profit "Greater Trilby Community Association" which exists to improve the life and quality of residents of the Trilby, Trilacoochee and Lacoochee area. Pemberton Ferry, later renamed Croom, is a ghost town in Central Florida near Brooksville, Florida, and Ridge Manor, Florida. A rail line came to Pemberton Ferry in 1884. It was a rail stop by the Withlacoochee River just north of where the I-75 bridge over Croom-Rital Road and Withlacoochee State Trail is today. The Croom Tract is part of the Withlacoochee State Forest, and is located just north of another ghost town called Oriole. There is also a 20,000 acre Croom Wildlife Management Area. Ruins in the area include 1900 Thomas House, old foundations, a brick vat, the remains of an iron railroad bridge, family cemeteries and pits from phosphate mining. The area once included a turpentine still, sawmill, sugar mill, railroad switch out, railroad bridge and ferry. The area is now popular for turkey hunting and single track mountain biking. Another settlement in the area was known as Oriole and an abandoned Oriole cemetery remains in existence.

The Wild Cow Prairie Cemetery is located in Sumter County, Florida near Bushnell, Florida. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.A 2020 study using ground-penetrating radar determined presence of 16 marked and 28 unmarked graves. It includes burials of veterans, of county commissioners and possibly of former slaves.While its address is 5822 County Road 673, it is located along the partially paved frontage road on the southeast side of the embankment for CR 673 and Exit 309 off of Interstate 75, within part of the Withlacoochee State Forest in Saint Catherine, Florida.

The Sumter Correctional Institution is a state prison for men located in Bushnell, Sumter County, Florida, owned and operated by the Florida Department of Corrections. This facility has a mix of security levels, including minimum, medium, and close, and houses both adult male and young male offenders. Sumter first opened in 1965 and has a maximum capacity of 1639 prisoners. Sumter Correctional Institution is the location of the state's only Basic Training Unit for Youthful Offenders in the Department of Corrections. After completing the 120 day program with a heavy course load of drill practice, education, physical training and a highly regimented daily schedule inmates are released to serve the remainder of their sentence on probation the day of graduation. An alleged sexual assault against a 17-year-old inmate by six other prisoners in July 2013 triggered a federal lawsuit against the institution.

A new area has opened at the northeast end of Lake Panasoffkee.
