Tingley railway station

Woodkirk is an ancient village between Leeds and Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England. The parish church is a grade II listed building. It is traditionally the centre of the parish of West Ardsley, but Tingley is now a much larger settlement. Woodkirk was part of the Ardsley urban district 1894–1937, which also included West Ardsley and East Ardsley and was then part of Morley municipal borough 1937–1974. The village once formed part of the former municipal borough of Morley, and is still classed as part of Morley in the census. Woodkirk is in the Leeds City Council ward, Morley South, each electing three councillors to Leeds City Council. It is in the Morley and Outwood parliamentary constituency. Since 2019 Woodkirk has been within the civil parish of Morley, governed by Morley Town Council. Woodkirk is just within the boundaries of the City of Leeds although Woodkirk Post Office is in Kirklees. Woodkirk contains a high school and sixth form: Woodkirk Academy. The school opened in the late 1940s and had over 1,800 students at itslast full Ofsted inspection in 2013 (in which it was rated as being Good).The Leeds Country Way passes through the churchyard.

Tingley is a suburban village in the City of Leeds in West Yorkshire, Northern England, forming part of the parish of West Ardsley. Tingley forms part of the Heavy Woollen District. It is situated between the cities of Leeds and Wakefield. Most of Tingley sits in the Ardsley and Robin Hood ward of Leeds City Council, whilst west Tingley forms part of Morley South ward. Both wards make up the western half of the Morley and Outwood parliamentary constituency.

Woodkirk Academy (formerly Woodkirk High School) is an academy located in Tingley, West Yorkshire, England. Established in 1948, the school now has over 1,800 pupils on roll, over 300 sixth form students and over 250 members of staff. Following Woodkirk gaining ‘Specialist Science Status', the school was briefly renamed Woodkirk High Specialist Science School from 2003 to 2011. The current principal is Tim Jones, who replaced Jo Barton in 2021. Prior to Barton, Jonathan White held the position for over 10 years. White succeeded previous headteacher Bill Bailey in 2005.

Woodkirk Priory was a cell of Augustinian Canons in West Yorkshire, England. William, second earl of Warenne (d. 1138), had granted the land for its foundation in 1135. It was a cell of Nostell Priory. Woodkirk became the site of a fair, granted by King Henry I and confirmed by King Stephen, which was particularly famous during the reign of King Edward II. The cell was dissolved in 1539, and the property later passed to the Savile family. The priory was situated just east of the main road between Leeds and Dewsbury, now the A653 road, at the southern edge of Woodkirk. The church dedicated to St. Mary, a Grade II listed building, is still standing and was partly rebuilt after storm damage in 1832, while the other buildings have been demolished since the closure of the priory. Archaeological excavations of the grounds took place in 1962 and 1966.

Beggarington Hill is a hamlet in the county of West Yorkshire, England, in the City of Leeds and at the border of Kirklees. Historically, it was part of the West Ardsley civil parish. It is located immediately southwest of West Ardsley near the town of Batley, between Baghill Beck in the north and Hey Beck in the south. The A653 road runs approximately 0.6 miles (1.0 km) west of the settlement. Nearby Woodkirk Mill, a corn mill, had fallen into disuse by 1930.

Woodkirk railway station was a Great Northern Railway (GNR) station on the Batley to Beeston line, which connected Batley to Leeds Central, in West Yorkshire, England. The station opened in July 1890 and was closed in September 1939 to passengers, but the line stayed open until 1964. The station was 1.75 miles (2.82 km) north of Batley railway station, and 6.75 miles (10.86 km) south of Leeds Central railway station.

Leeds South West and Morley is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested in the 2024 general election.

The White Rose Centre is a shopping centre in the Beeston area of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It spans two floors and is near the M621 motorway. It takes its name from the White Rose of York, the traditional symbol of Yorkshire. Most shops are situated on the Ground Floor. The Upper Level mezzanine and ‘The Village’ outdoor expansion houses one of two food courts as well some retail outlets, a Cineworld 11-screen cinema, a Starbucks and an al fresco dining terrace boasting new tenants Wagamama, Prezzo, TGI Fridays and Five Guys among others. It also houses an outdoor children’s play area. Although the centre is smaller than other out-of-town shopping centres, it has attracted large retailers such as Next, JD Sports, Zara, River Island and Marks and Spencer. The centre opened on 25 March 1997 and accommodated major tenants including Sainsbury's, Marks & Spencer, Next, WHSmith, Primark, Zara, H&M, New Look, Boots and most recently Sky, with over 100 other stores and services. It contains eateries such as a McDonald's, KFC, Nando's, Starbucks, Subway, Frankie & Benny's, Chiquito, TGI Fridays, Graveleys, Five Guys, Krispy Kreme,multiple Costa Coffee's and (newly added) Wetherspoons. The centre has 4,800 free car parking spaces, security and on-site police officers. The south part of the centre was re-developed in 2005 downsizing the Sainsbury's Savacentre to a regular Sainsbury's which made space for other units. Argos was moved into Sainsbury's in 2018.The centre has a bus station at the north end of the mall connecting it to suburban areas of Leeds and to the city centre. The centre has won awards including a British Council of Shopping Centre's (BCSC) Gold Award, BCSC Purple apple, and Green apple awards.In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom, the centre suffered the loss of two of its major tenants and most popular stores. Both Debenhams and Topshop closed all stores worldwide and went into administration. The centre also lost a Disney Store, Thorntons and a Thomas Cook travel store.

Middleton is a largely residential suburb of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England and historically a village in the West Riding of Yorkshire. It is situated on a hill 4 miles (6 km) south of Leeds city centre and 165 miles (266 km) north north-west of London. It sits in the Middleton Park ward of Leeds City Council and Leeds Central parliamentary constituency. The population of Middleton Park ward - which includes Belle Isle - was 26,228 at the 2011 Census.Middleton was occupied before the Norman Conquest and recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Mildetone. It developed as a manorial estate and its owners began to exploit the coal seams that outcropped within its boundaries. At the start of the Industrial Revolution a wooden wagonway was built to link the coal pits to Leeds. The colliery agent, John Blenkinsop designed an iron railway and its first steam-powered locomotive which was built by Matthew Murray in Holbeck. The coal mines on which the local economy was based lasted until 1968 and the railway is preserved and run by a trust after operating for 200 years. Middleton Park, a remnant of the manorial estate, contains a large area of ancient woodland and parts of it, where coal was mined, are designated a scheduled ancient monument. It was the location of Middleton Hall and Middleton Lodge, homes to the local gentry. The village developed along Town Street, a school, chapel and church were built in the 19th century but after the land was acquired by Leeds Council in 1920 a large council housing estate was built on the flatter land to the south, completely changing the rural nature of the settlement. Early transport was provided by a tram line and the Leeds Ring Road was built to Middleton. After the colliery closed the area began to decline and by 2001, had areas of multiple deprivation and high levels of unemployment and anti-social behaviour. The Middleton Regeneration Board has been established with the remit of addressing these issues.

Morley railway station serves the town of Morley in West Yorkshire, England. The station is on the Huddersfield Line and is currently operated by Northern. It is located approximately 5 miles (8 km) south-west of Leeds at the northern end of the 3,369-yard (3,081 m) Morley Tunnel which passes beneath the town.

Stank Hall is a historic building in Beeston, a suburb of Leeds in England. It was built in the late 15th century for the Beeston family. It has been listed as Grade II by English Heritage since 19 October 1951. Immediately to the north stands a Grade II*–listed barn of the late 15th – early 16th century that was also built for the Beeston family and was acquired by the Hodgson family in the 17th century. In 2014, the barn was acquired from the Leeds City Council by the Friends of Stank Hall Barn, with the intent of restoring it.

White Rose is a planned railway station between Cottingley and Morley railway stations on the Huddersfield Line. It was featured in the Government's plans for the railway in November 2017 and in July 2018 further details were revealed as part of the Connecting Leeds Vision with the consultation inviting opinions from the general public. It is anticipated by the developers that Cottingley railway station will close due to the proximity of the two stations.
