Lackawaxen River

The Zane Grey Museum in Lackawaxen Township, Pennsylvania, United States, is a former residence of the author Zane Grey and is now maintained as a museum and operated by the National Park Service (NPS). It is located on the upper Delaware River and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It contains many photographs, artworks, books, furnishings, and other objects of interest associated with Grey and his family. The house was built in two sections, both from designs by Grey. The first was in 1905 by Zane Grey's brother, Romer Carl "Reddy" Grey; the second seven years later by a neighbor, to serve as a writing studio and library after the success of Riders of the Purple Sage. Grey and his wife moved to California so he could work on screenplays in 1918, but Lackawaxen and the house remained one of his favorite places for the rest of his life. It was added to the Register in 1983.

The D&H Canal Co. Office, now known as the Roebling Inn, is located on Scenic Drive in Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania, United States. It is a mid-19th century wooden house in the Greek Revival architectural style. It was originally built by the company, which operated the nearby Delaware and Hudson Canal, as its regional office. Sold in 1898 to Charles W. Shannon when the canal was shut down, it was converted into a boarding house, a single-family private residence, and most recently a bed and breakfast. It remains mostly intact. In 1993 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Roebling's Delaware Aqueduct, also known as the Roebling Bridge, is the oldest existing wire suspension bridge in the United States. It runs 535 feet (163 meters) over the Delaware River, from Minisink Ford, New York, to Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania. Opened in 1849 as an aqueduct connecting two parts of the Delaware & Hudson Canal (D&H), it has since been converted to carry automotive traffic and pedestrians.

Minisink Ford is a hamlet on the Delaware River, fifteen miles northwest of Port Jervis. It is in the town of Highland, Sullivan County, New York, United States.

The Battle of Minisink was a battle of the American Revolutionary War fought at Minisink Ford, New York, on July 22, 1779. It was the only major skirmish of the Revolutionary War fought in the upper Delaware valley. The battle was a decisive British victory, as the Patriot militia was hastily assembled, ill-equipped and inexperienced.

The Shohola train wreck occurred on July 15, 1864, during the American Civil War on the broad gauge Erie Railroad 11⁄2 miles (2.4 km) west of Shohola, Pennsylvania. A train carrying Confederate prisoners of war collided head-on with a coal train. Some 65 prisoners, guards, and train crew were killed.

Ski Big Bear is a skiing and snowboarding resort located in Lackawaxen Township, Pike County, Pennsylvania (in the Census Bureau CDP of Masthope). While open to the public, it is an amenity of the Masthope Mountain Community and community property owners receive a season pass as part of their annual community dues. It is also fairly unusual as the main lodge, parking areas, and facilities are located at the top of the mountain. Skiers and riders descend to the lifts before riding back to the top. Ski Big Bear has a vertical drop of 650 feet.

Rowland is an unincorporated community in Pike County, Pennsylvania, United States. The community is located along the Lackawaxen River and Pennsylvania Route 590, 7.4 miles (11.9 km) east of Hawley. Rowland has a post office with ZIP code 18457, which opened on January 20, 1838.

Lackawaxen Township is the largest and northernmost township in Pike County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,066 at the 2020 census. The Delaware River, which marks the eastern boundary of the township, joins the Lackawaxen River at Lackawaxen Village. Masthope Mountain Community is a census-designated place located in Lackawaxen Township, Pike County in the state of Pennsylvania. The community is located in far northeastern Pike County near the New York border. As of the 2010 census the population was 685. Masthope is a name derived from a Native American language purported to mean "beads of glass".It is a private community of single family homes in the most northern tier of the Poconos Mountains. The community has a lodge, built in 2005, which has a restaurant overlooking the Delaware River, as well as a ski area, horse stables, a fitness center, and a beach.

The neighboring hamlets are Shohola, Pennsylvania, Eldred and Narrowsburg, New York.Yulan is the location of a Roman Catholic church, the Church of St. Anthony of Padua. As of 2014, Yulan has a population of 300 people, 66.5% of whom are married. Toasperns Pond, Montgomery Lake, Bodine lake, and Washington Lake are all in Yulan.
