Eagle Falls (Kentucky)

Cumberland Falls, sometimes called the Little Niagara, the Niagara of the South, or the Great Falls, is a waterfall on the Cumberland River in southeastern Kentucky. Spanning the river at the border of McCreary and Whitley counties, the waterfall is the central feature of Cumberland Falls State Resort Park and is part of the Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves designated Wild River System. It is believed the current falls formed as the result of erosion from its original starting place at an escarpment far downstream. The site of the falls was occupied in pre-modern times by a variety of indigenous peoples, and more recently has passed through multiple private owners until eventually being donated, along with surrounding land to Kentucky in 1933. A moonbow is regularly visible at this site.

Cumberland Falls State Resort Park is a park located just southwest of Corbin, Kentucky, and is contained entirely within the Daniel Boone National Forest. The park encompasses 1,657 acres (671 ha) and is named for its major feature, 68-foot-tall (21 m) Cumberland Falls. The falls are one of the few places in the western hemisphere where a moonbow can frequently be seen on nights with a full moon. The park is also the home of 44-foot (13 m) Eagle Falls. The section of the Cumberland River that includes the falls was designated a Kentucky Wild River by the Kentucky General Assembly through the Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves' Wild Rivers System. The forest in the park is also a dedicated State Nature Preserve.

Tombstone Junction was a small, Western-town-themed park located on Kentucky Route 90 in McCreary County, Kentucky near the Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. It began operating in the 1960s and continued uninterrupted until it was heavily damaged by fire in 1989. The park continued with limited operation until it was completely destroyed by a second fire in 1991. The venue featured a recreation of a small, Western frontier town complete with train station, working saloon, dance hall, jailhouse, shanties, and shops. There was also an outdoor amphitheater that hosted live shows featuring country and western music of the period. The leading attraction at Tombstone Junction was a 2+1⁄2-mile ride aboard a full-sized standard-gauge operating steam train.

Honeybee is an unincorporated community in McCreary County, Kentucky, United States. Their post office closed in 1983.A post office was established in the community in 1905. The place name Honeybee derives from the large populations of honey bees found in the area.

Dog Slaughter Falls is a 15 feet (4.6 m) to 20 feet (6.1 m) tall waterfall at the confluence of the Cumberland River and Dog Slaughter Creek, in the London Ranger District of the Daniel Boone National Forest in Whitley County, Kentucky. It is accessible via the Sheltowee Trace Trail, traveling downstream of Cumberland Falls, or via the Dog Slaughter Trail. The falls is rumored to be named for the drowning of unwanted pets, or the loss of hunting dogs to predatory wildlife.

The Barren Fork Coal Camp and Mine Archeological District is a 210 acres (0.85 km2) historic district near Whitley City, Kentucky which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. It is also designated 15MC808 and 15MC809.It is presumably located near or on Barren Fork Rd., north of Whitley City. The Barren Fork Cemetery is the most visible surviving element of the community.

McCreary County Airport (FAA LID: 18I) is a public airport located in unincorporated McCreary County, Kentucky, USA, 3 miles (4.8 km) northeast of the central business district (CBD) of Pine Knot. It is a very small, publicly owned public-use general aviation airport. The airport lies adjacent to United States Penitentiary, McCreary and has one unattended hangar containing several ultralight aircraft. Its elevation is 1370 MSL and it has one well-maintained asphalt runway, 4/22. In 2003, Senator Jim Bunning announced that federal funding was being extended to McCreary County Airport. Plans are in development to extend the runway and build additional hangar space.

The United States Penitentiary, McCreary (USP McCreary) is a high-security United States federal prison for male inmates in unincorporated McCreary County, Kentucky. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. The facility also has an adjacent minimum-security satellite camp for male offenders. USP McCreary (the name comes from the surrounding Kentucky county, which has no incorporated towns) is located approximately 88 miles (142 km) north of Knoxville, Tennessee, 125 miles (201 km) south of Lexington, Kentucky and 208 miles (335 km) south of Cincinnati, Ohio.
